Tarnished Gold Sympathy Card

On Thursday a friend of our from church lost her husband unexpectedly.  As I went to create a card I thought that this beautiful tarnished gold technique would make the perfect sympathy card.  Dark days of loss and sorrow, but shining through great love and happy memories.

I ran a piece of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock through the Big Shot with the Darice Cherry Blossom Embossing Folder, debossing the image so that it would be mostly black after running StazOn Jet Black Ink over the surface, leave the beautiful flowers shining gold behind.  Once it was dry I ran it through the Big Shot again with a My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle STAX die and then added more gold cardstock behind it for a very thin border, adhered using Be Creative Tape to secure it to the slick surface of the mirror cardstock.  I added black sticky back foam to the back of the panel for dimension and adhered it to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock.

This sentiment was also die cut from gold mirror cardstock using Avery Elle’s With Sympathy die and adhered to a strip of the same black cardstock with another thin border of gold on the top and bottom.  The two additional word from the stamp set were stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  More black foam was added behind the sentiment strip and then it was adhered to the front of the card with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  A white panel of cardstock was added to the inside of the card and a sentiment from My sentiments Exactly Strength and Hope as stamped with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and the card was done.

Janet – You Are Awesome

My husband asked me the other day if I would make a card for his administrative specialist, since this week is when we officially give them thanks for all they do to keep work life running smoothly.  I colored it in some of her favorite colors and Michael tells me she even wore the same colors today when they gave it to her.  How cool is that.

I went on line and searched for a good image for administrative specialists.  There weren’t very many out there, but I did fine this one from BrokenBoxStock Clipart called Daydreaming. I printed it onto Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and then colored it with Copic Markers, colors are listed below.

I die cut the focal image with a My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle STAX.  I love the way they give a finished look to any project.  I mounted it to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.

The sentiment is from the Neat and Tangled Awesome stamp and die.  The word Awesome was cut from Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock and an additional three times from black cardstock.  They were adhered together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  The secondary sentiment was stamped on a strip of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back and it was adhered just above the word Awesome and the card was done.

Having been in the administrative field for all of my career, it was a pleasure to create a card thanking someone for all their hard work.

Embossed Arrow Tarnished Gold Celebrate Birthday Card

This is the last card that I made with a tarnished gold mirror embossed panel.  This time I kept it very clean and simple with just the embossed panel and a sentiment strip.

The Darice Arrow Embossing Folder was used with Gold Mirror Cardstock and then tarnished by running StazOn Jet Black Ink over the surface.  Once the ink was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back and the panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages and was stamped with VersaMark Ink on a a strip of black cardstock and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  3M 1/2″ Foam tape was added to the back and then it was adhered to the card front and the card was done.

Tarnished Gold Vine Embossed Birthday Wishes

I was having so much fun working with this new technique of tarnishing gold mirror cardstock with embossing folders that I decided to make another card, this time with a feminine twist using the Darice Vine Embossing Folder and My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers.  It turned out to be such and elegant looking card.

I decided to deboss the vines into the gold mirror cardstock.  I really like the way it gives a rich black background when the StazOn Jet Black Ink is run across the surface.  Once the panel was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.

For embellishments I found that the Memory Box Lorelai Leaf Poppy was almost an exact match to the vines in the embossing folder.  It was such a close match that when I die cut it from gold mirror cardstock it got lost in the shimmer of the panel, so I decided to cut it two times from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onxy Black Cardstock and stacked them together a little offset and added small amounts of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to hold them together.  A bow was die around the bottom of the cluster with Cousin’s Iridescent Gold Cord.  Several flowers from the My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers die set were also cut from gold mirror cardstock and grouped together.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back and they were adhered at the bottom of the leave cluster.

The sentiment is from the My Favorite Things Peaceful Wildflowers stamp set and stamped with VersaMark Ink on a scrap of black cardtock and adhered directly to the embossed panel to the left of the flower bouquet and the card was done.

Tarnished Gold Embossed Birthday Card with Feathers

I liked the way that the gold mirror cardstock looked with tarnished with StazOn Jet Black Ink, so this time I used the same Sizzix 3D Feathers Embossing Folder and embossed it into the cardstock.  It gives a more subtle tarnished look, but I like the way it turned out.

For this card I decided to use gold mirror cardstock for the black ice technique, and I used an embossing folder for added dimension.  I really like the way it turned out.

Once the the panel had been tarnished, I ran i through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Die.  A mat of Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger and adhered to the back with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Another mat of gold mirror cardstock was added to the back, again 1/8″ larger and adhered with Be Creative Tape.  I find this works best when adhering to the ultra smooth surface of mirror cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back for dimension and the entire panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from the same black cardstock.

For embellishments, I die cut some feathers from the Cuttlebug Feathers and Arrows die set out of scraps of Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock.  The bottom feather was adhered using the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and to top feather was adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink’s Stylish Sentiments: Birthday, stamped on a scrap of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  It was adhered over the feather with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape, leave a small opening for the quills so they would be on the same level as the top feather.  Spectrum Noir Crystal Clear Sparkle was added to the feathers and the card was done.

TLC687 Gold Black Ice Feathers Birthday Wishes

For this card I decided to use gold mirror cardstock for the black ice technique, and I used an embossing folder for added dimension.  I really like the way it turned out.

I decided to try debossing the Sizzix 3D Feathers into Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  Once that was completed I ran StazOn Jet Black Ink across the surface of the mirror cardstock.  This gives a much darker background.  Once the ink was dry I ran a VersaMark Ink pad over the surface of the card and then heat embossed it with Hero Arts Detailed Clear Embossing Powder, which gives the shimmer to the background.

I ran the embossed, distress panel through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Die.  I decided to add a mat of gold mirror cardstock behind the embossed panel, cut 1/8″ larger and adhered to the back with Be Creative Tape.  I find this works the best when adhered to the ultra smooth surface of mirror cardstock.

For embellishments, I stamped some feathers from the Mama Elephant Fair Feathers stamp set with the StazOn Ink and once the ink was dry I ran them through the Big Shot with the matching dies.  I distressed the feathers lightly by running the StazOn ink over the surface and then glued them together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  I added a pile of Cousin Iridescent Gold Cord behind the feathers and then attached them to the embossed panel by added 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back.

The sentiment is from the same Mama Elephant stamp set and was stamped on a scrap of Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back and it was adhered to the front of the card just underneath the quill of the feathers.  The embossed panel was then adhered to an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock and the card was done.

TLC687 Nature Scene Black Ice Birthday Card

This is the third card I made using the Black Ice Technique, which really creates some unique and stunning cards.  Because the surface is so shiny photographs really don’t do it justice.

I started with some Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock and die cut it using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  Next I lightly ran StazOn Jet Black Ink across the surface to give it a distressed look. I then stamped the image and sentiment from Gina K. Designs’ Winter Trees with the same black ink.

It takes a little bit of time for this ink to dry, so be sure and wait for it be completely set before taking VersaMark Ink and running it very lightly across the surface and then heat setting it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder. This is what gives it the black ice look.

I added Darice Sticky Back Foam 1/8″ smaller than the focal image and adhered it to side folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the card was done.

TLC687 Black Ice Sea Shells Still Life Birthday Card

This is the second card I made for the Splitcoaststampers.com Try and New Technique Challenge called Black Ice.  I had to lighten the card quite a bit to be able to see the details in the photograph, but it is stunning in real life.

I started with some Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock and die cut it using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  Next I lightly ran StazOn Jet Black Ink across the surface to give it a distressed look. I then stamped the image from Inkadinkado’s Sea Shells Still Life and the sentiment from Papertrey Ink’s Stylish Sentiments: Birthday with the same black ink.

It takes a little bit of time for this ink to dry, so be sure and wait for it be completely set before taking VersaMark Ink and running it very lightly across the surface and then heat setting it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder. This is what gives it the black ice look. It is really stunning.

I mounted the focal image on a larger rectangle of dark gray cardstock which was also distressed with StazOn Ink.  Darice Sticky Back Foam 1/8″ smaller than the focal image was added to the back and then adhered with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to a side folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. I mounted the focal image on a square of dark gray cardstock 4 1/8″ x 4 1/8″, which was also distressed with StazOn Ink.  Then I added Darice Sticky Back Foam 1/8″ smaller than the focal image and then adhered it to a 4 1/2″ x 9″ Cardbase scored at 4 1/2″ made from Gina K.
