Have a Beautiful Day Dear Sister

My baby sister had a birthday this month.  Her favorite color is blue and so I knew I wanted to create something with that as the predominate color, however, I always like to add a complimentary color as well.  I had seen a card where someone took the Power Poppy Countryside Bouquet, turned it a little, and let it flow off the  page.  I decided to give that a try and really like the way it turned out.

I have this stamp in the digital format.  I wanted to have a no line coloring look and so I changed the lines to gray and printed it on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic Markers (colors listed below)  I decided to add a soft yellow background around the image.

Once the coloring was completed I die cut it to size using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Day and was stamped using Memento Gray Flannel Ink.  The panel was then adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from navy blue cardstock I had in my stash.  As a final embellishment I punched a butterfly from light blue cardstock using the Martha Stewart 3 Butterflies Punch.  Accented the ended with Copic Markers and added Stickles Crystal to the edges of the butterfly and the center of the flowers.

Faith is Confidence in God Encouragement Card

Every month I create a card and message for the young men and women in my local church who are serving full-time missions for the Lord.  I admire them so much for giving up 18-months to two years of their life to take the good news of Jesus Christ to the areas they are called to serve.  It is hard work and they experience difficult times, but they persevere because they love the Lord.  This month’s theme was “You Can Do Hard Things.”  I have a couple of Penny Black stamp sets that are perfect for these kind of encouragement cards.  This month I used Hope Shines.  I also wanted to experiment with creating watercolor background using Ken Oliver Color Burst Powders and they turned out beautiful.  The orange background was sent to the young men and the purple and teal to the young women.  I hope it encourages them to trust in the Lord.

For the orange background I started with dry Canson XL 140# Watercolor Paper and then sprayed water to move the colors.  With the purple and teal I started with wet paper and added to dry powders.  Both methods work really well.

Once the background were completely dry I die cut them using the second largest My Favorite Things A2 Set A Stitched Rectangle.  They were applied to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Be Creative Tape.  Since the paper warps a little from adding so much water this strong adhesive really helps to flatten the panel to the cardbase.

The sentiment was stamped onto Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Hero Hues India Ink Black and die cut using a Spellbinders Wonky Rectangle.  It was then adhered to the watercolor paper with Scotch Advanced Tape Glider Gun, another strong bonding adhesive.

MFT Summer School White Space Peony Dream 3D Flower

I’ve had the Altenew Peony Dream 3D Die for quite awhile and hadn’t gotten around to using it.  I wanted to give it try cutting the elements of the flower with paper that had been alcohol inked.  Originally I thought I would use it to make a complementary color card, but I added some turquoise into the mix and it turned out to be a lovely card with white space. 

I used Alcohol Inks Aqua, Sailboat Blue, Mermaid, Purple Twilight, Wild Plum, and Raspberry.  I first saturated the Yupo Paper with Alcohol Blending Solution and then randomly dropped the colors onto the paper.  I picked it up and moved it around to get the colors to blend and then set it aside to dry.  I waited a little too long to add iCraft Deco Foil in Gold, but there are a few subtle spots were is shines.

After the background panel was dry I dies cut all the elements for the Peony Delight 3D Flower.  I used Zots Medium Glue Dots, making the smaller and rolling them into strips to adhere the layers together.  This added nice dimension to each of the layers.  I love the variation in colors for each layer.  For the center of the flower I added a pile of Ranger Multi Medium Matte and filled it with Mikuki Gold Seed Beads.

Thinking of the complimentary color to purple I decided to make the leaves gold.  I used Paper Accents Gold Mirror and Glossy Gold Papers and love the way they looked layered.

I die cut a quarter sheet of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock using the largest My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  I matted the back with an A2 size rectangle from the Glossy Gold cardstock and adhered them together using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

I placed the flower and leaves onto the rectangle to determine where to stamp the sentiment from Penny Black’s Heartfelt in VersaMark Ink and heat embossed using Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  It was then adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the card was done.

MFT Summer School Complementary Colors Peaceful Wildflowers

I wanted to create a card for the My Favorite Things Summer School Complementary Colors with Purple and Yellow, but I really wanted to try something out that had been spinning in the back of my mind for a while and this is stamping with Distress Oxide Inks onto an Alcohol Inked Background.  I love the way it turned out, but be aware that it takes a LONG time for the Oxide Inks to dry.

For the background I used Alcohol Inks Sunshine Yellow, Dandelion, and Latte on Ranger Yupo Paper with Alcohol Blending Solution.  I never get tired of see the unique patterns it creates, which are pretty much outside of your control, you really have to be okay with going with the “flow”.  Before it was completely dry I added some iCraft Deco Foil in Gold and set the background aside to dry completely.  Before stamping I die cut the background with the largest My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.

I knew I would need a solid image for this technique to really work the way I envisioned it, so I pulled out My Favorite Things Peaceful Wildflowers.  I stamped in stages starting with the center stem using Distress Oxide Wilted Violet.  Next I stamped the two items directly to the sides in my regular MISTI and then stamped the outside stems in my Mini-MISTI.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set and the same ink was used to stamp it.

I set it aside to dry for about an hour, but it was still wet, so I carefully added Darice Sticky Back Foam to the back of the rectangle.  My first pass was to place it on a white cardbase, but I didn’t like the way that looked, so I went through my stash of cardstock to find a matching purple and created a side folding A2 cardbase.  The stamped panel was adhered to the cardbase using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

It is still sitting on my desk top and isn’t yet dry.  I’ll give it until tomorrow morning and then spray it was a fixative.

MFT Summer School Complementary Colors Balloon Shaker

For this challenge we were suppose to create with complementary colors, which are colors opposite one another on the color wheel.  I chose pink and green.  I love the way these two colors look together.

I decided to find some patterned paper that had these two colors and found this pretty floral from DaisyD’s called Sweet Baby Jane. I decided for a simple design and pulled out My Favorite Things Balloon Shaker Window. .

I cut a rectangle using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  For the balloon backing I used the striped patterned paper on the back of the flowered paper and cut the balloon shape and adhered it to the top of the stitched rectangle with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  I cut the frame for the balloon out of green cardstock I had in my scrapes and added acetate to the back.  I couldn’t find my acetate balloon insert from MFT and so I had to create my shaker the old fashioned way with layered 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  It is remarkable easy to do.  When you remove the backing paper the foam tape is very malleable and can be molded around any shape.  I added two layers for enough depth to let the shaker element of the card move easily.  I used Mikuki Seed Beads in Silver Lined Pink and Chartreuse, along with some Martha Stewart Cotton Candy Stars.  I adhered the balloon string with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then put the balloon frame in place.

For the sentiment I used Mama Elephant’s Happy Script Die.  I cut it once from the green cardstock and another four times from pink cardstock.  I adhered the pink die cuts together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and then added the green die cut slightly offset.  For the secondary sentiment I placed the “happy” word die cut on the patterned paper to determine where to stamp the letters “Day” from a Papertrey Ink Stylish Sentiments: Birthday stamp with VersaMark Ink, which was heat embossed it with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  The “happy” word was then adhered using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Using the same liquid glue the entire focal image panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  For a final embellishment Ranger Glossy Accents was added to the balloon frame and the word happy and the card was done.

MFT Summer School Primary Colors HB2U Balloons

I decided to try Distress Oxide Inks to create  a ink blended background with primary colors.  You have to be very careful when doing this because you need to overlap a little for a smooth blended background, but of course they can turn into different colors where they meet.  I was able to cover up the little big of green that was created when the yellow and blue met with the My Favorite Things Chevron Coverup Die.

I added Darice Sticky Back Foam to a rectangle of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and die cut the coverup die.  I love the way the white chevron coverup really lets the primary colors pop and the foam backing adds some dimension.

For a sentiment I decided to use My Favorite Things Party Balloons.  You can stamp the balloons with some sentiments, but I wanted to have ink blended balloons to match the background.  So, I decided to die cut my sentiment from My Favorite Things Little Upper Case from Neena Classic Crest and adhered them to the balloons with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  For balloon strings I used Lawn Fawns Party Balloons and My Favorite Things Balloon Shaker Window.

The coverup background was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The blue balloon was adhered directly to the coverup with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the sentiment balloons were adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  Ranger Multi Medium Matte was used to adhered the balloon strings.  The oxide inks must not have been completely dry and so there were a few small smudges of color on the white chevron background, so I pulled out Simon Says Stamp Moonstone Sequins and strategically placed them to cover them up and the card was done.

MFT Summer School Repetition, Symmetry, and White Space Beautiful Day

This morning when I went into my craft room these beautiful leftover butterflies from a card I created yesterday were calling my name.  I knew I needed to use them on a card.  I love the way it turned out.  Maybe even better than the card I created earlier.

Since these are the smaller butterflies, I knew I needed a smaller focal area, so I ran a piece of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock through the Big Shot with the largest My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle and then again with Gina Marie Designs Peekaboo Rectangles.  It created a pretty frame for these gorgeous butterflies.

For added dimension, I die cut another stitched rectangle as a base and then added 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back of the frame.  I laid the butterflies in place to determine where to stamp the sentiment from Altenew’s Beautiful Day with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  I then glued the butterflies in place with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  I’ve learned that Yupo Paper reacts a little differently with glue because it is a non-porous paper.  The images need more time to dry and you have to be careful that they don’t move around until it’s set.

I had one butterfly leftover for the font of the envelope and then this creation was done.

MFT Summer School Repetition and White Space Butterfly Celebration

This is the fourth card I’ve made for My Favorite Things Summer School 2018.  This one is for day three repetition.  It was inspired by a card created by Laura Bassen for Paper Smooches Butterfly Duet, which can be found at: https://www.papersmoochesstamps.com/Butterfly_Duet_Die_p/m1d-15-202.htm.  For my card I decided to use Ranger Alcohol Inks and love the way the butterflies turned out.

I started with Ranger Yupo Paper.  I saturated it with Alcohol Blending Solution and added Shell Pink, Flamingo, Watermelon, Wild Plum, and Mermaid Alcohol Inks.  I picked up the paper and moved it around to cause the colors to blend into one another and then set it aside to dry.  I wanted to add some gold accents and so I used a small piece of iCraft Gold Deco Foil, but I had waited a little too long and only had a few spots were the foil stuck to the background.  It still turned out beautiful.

When the background was completely dry I used the butterflies from Paper Smooches Butterfly Duet and ran it through the Big Shot.

I die cut a rectangle from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  These are my favorite dies.  I probably use them on half of the cards I create.  I added Darice Sticky Back Foam to the back of the panel to add dimension and adhered it to a side folding pre-scored cardbase from Simon Says Stamp.

I arranged the butterflies on the stitched rectangle and tried to glue them together with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  It didn’t adhered very well, but I knew I wanted to add 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back and that kept them together.

To enhance the little bit of gold in the butterflies I pulled out some Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock and cut the Penny Back Doodle Thins Celebrate die for my sentiment.  It was adhered to the lower right of the card front and the butterflies were adhered above it and the card was done.

MFT Summer School Primary Colors and Symmetry Celebrate You

For this card I combined both the Primary Colors and Symmetry instructions.    I could probably fall in white space as well, but I decided to focus on these two elements.  Red, blue, and yellow really do make a card that is pleasing to the eye, and when keeping the rule of thirds in mind it is even more enhanced.

I had created a card not long ago using My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers.  In that card I keep all the flowers white, but I thought it could be equally as pleasing to the eye using the primary colors.  I die cut the flowers and their centers from scraps of red, blue, and yellow cardstock.  I arranged the flowers in the top two-thirds of the card and used the bottom third for the sentiment.  The flowers were arranged in a pyramid formation, which is also pleasing to the eye.

A side folding A2 Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The flower were adhered together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte, with the exception of the center flower which was adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  I added a little Copic Marker Y17 to the flower centers for a little added visual interest.

The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Celebrate You.  I went through my swatch book to try and find a matching blue ink to stamp the sentiment.  The closest that I had was Gina K. Designs Blue Raspberry.

After the card was assembled I decided to pull out some gold rhinestones from my stash and add them to the centers of the flowers.  Not sure if I liked it any better, but it does add some bling.

I had enough flowers left over that I made a second card using the rule of symmetry.

I decided to adhere the flowers to a smaller scalloped rectangle cut from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with a Gina Marie Designs Stitched Scalloped Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back.

The cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the front was embossed using the Darice Basketweave Embossing Folder.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Happy Hellos.  It was cut from both red and blue cardstock and adhered together on a slight offset.

MFT Summer School White Space Flower Fusion Cover Up

I love My Favorite Things Summer School videos.  They are so instructional and really fun to play along with.  The first challenge this year was using white space.  Most of the cards I have created thus far fall into this category because I like a lot of white space on my cards.  They may fall into other categories as well, but white space is definitely part of what I love.  Here is my first card.

I love the beautiful cards that the My Favorite Things Flower Fusion Background die makes.  You really don’t have to do anything else but add it to a card front.  For this card I added Darice Sticky Back Foam to the back of a rectangle of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock for added dimension.  I adhered it to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.

For added visual interest I added white pearl flower centers.  For the sentiment I first tried using the scripty hello from My Favorite Things Happy Hellos, but it just got lost on the background, so I decided to use the  block “hello” instead.  I cut it from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock four times and adhered the letters together with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  To adhere the letters to the card front I used Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  I love the way the back looks against all the white.
