Happy Birthday Loye

A sweet friend at church has a birthday this week. Loye reminds me so much of my mother, although she is about ten years younger. I wanted to create a special birthday card for her, so I called her daughter and asked what her favorite colors were and used them to create this card for her.

I stamped the image with a light gray memento ink first, leaving the stamp in place in the MISTI, and colored it with Copic Markers. I love the way the light peach flowers turned out. I wasn’t sure I had the right colors for a pale peach, but they turned out lovely and beautiful contrast to the darker peach flower. Sage green is Loye’s favorite color and I tried to pick markers that wouldn’t be too dark for the flowers and still have that hue.

Once the coloring was complete I stamped it again with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. I always use this double stamping method with coloring with Copic Markers because the embossing powder can ruin your nibs. Once the embossing was cool I fussy cut the image with scissors.

I wanted to add some visual interest behind the flower bouquet and decided to emboss a background die. I pulled out Crafter’s Companion Grande Swirls and embossed a rectangle that had been sized with the largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Stackable Rectangle, which cover the entire front of an A2 cardbase. I adhered it to a side folding cardbase with liquid glue.

Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back of the bouquet, the protective paper removed and then it was adhered to the card front.

For the sentiment I colored a scrap of white cardstock with the same green Copic Markers as the leaves and stamped the sentiment with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it gold. It was cut down using a Honey Bee Sentiment Banner, leaving the right side long enough that the flag could be cut off. Foam tape was added to the back and it was adhered to the lower right of the card.

The final embellishment was to scatter a few Pretty Pink Posh Gold Metallic Sequins around the bouquet.

Birthday Wishes Becca

My young friend Becca shares the same birthday as Abagail and so I created her card in much the same design as the previous card. I searched for an image that looked like Becca and printed it with a laser printer to ensure the lines did not bleed when coloring with Copic Markers.

Becca’s favorite colors is aqua and so those are the colors I used for the image. When I cut the image out with the PixScan Silhouette Mat it wasn’t even, so I used scissors to trim the image to the lines and then used a black marker around the edges.

As with Abagail’s card I used Simon Says Stamp’s You Matter Background stamp on a panel of white cardstock that had been sized with the largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Stackable Rectangle, this time stamping it in an aqua ink from Gina K. Designs. The panel was adhered to the front of a top folding card with dotliner adhesive.

Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back of the image and she was adhered to the front of the word background by removing the protective paper on the foam.

The sentiment was stamped in the same aqua ink, die cut with a label die and adhered below the image with foam tape, giving her something to stand on.

Birthday Wishes Abagail

This time of year gets really busy creating all the handmade Christmas cards I make to send to family and friends, so I was looking ahead to the birthday cards I would need in the month of November and saw that Abagail was turning 15. She is a sweet, kind, musically talented young lady. I went looking for an image that looks a little bit like her and colored it with Copic Markers in her favorite color.

I used my Silhouette PixScan Mat to cut out the image and added Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape to the back.

I wanted to add a meaningful background to this sweet image and decided to use Simon Says Stamp You Matter. The words are prefect for a teenager, reminding her how special and amazing she is. I used the largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle to cut a panel that would cover the front of an A2 cardbase. I stamped the background with a couple of light purple inks before getting the hue I wanted and adhered it to a top folding cardbase with dotliner adhesive. The image was adhered to the center of the card by removing the backing paper on the foam tape, leaving enough room at the bottom for the sentiment.

The sentiment was stamped on a scrap of white cardstock and die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Labels die and adhered with foam tape, giving the image the illusion it was standing on it.

Perfectly Perfect Happy Birthday

I was cleaning up my craft desk and ran across of few leftover flowers and leaves from Altenew’s Perfectly Perfect stamp set and decided to put them to good use.

I wanted to have a colorful background behind the flower bouquet and ink blended a quarter sheet of Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Distress Oxide Mowed Lawn and Tumbled Glass. I love the combination of these two colors. I die cut the panel with a scalloped rectangle and added Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape to the back.

I wanted to add some visual interest behind the scalloped rectangle and pulled out the Cuttlebug Mosaic Embossing Folder and dry embossed the card front. The scalloped rectangle was adhered to the front my removing the protective paper from the foam tape.

I arranged the flowers and leaves the way I wanted them and then used Press ‘N Seal to hold them together while placing them on the scalloped rectangle. I turned the bouquet over and adhered foam tape to the back, removed the protective paper and adhered it to the center of the scalloped rectangle.

The sentiment is a leftover I had from stamping Simon Says Stamp Birthday Words Mix 1, which stamps several sentiments and die cuts them all at once. It was adhered with foam tape as well, leaving the overlapping portion of the sentiment without tape and adding liquid glue to adhere it to the leaves.

Happy One Year Older Ella

My young friend Ella turns fifteen on November 1. Her favorite color is coral. I found a image that looked a little like Ella and printed it on Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with a laser printer so that the lines don’t bleed when coloring with Copic Markers.

Once the coloring was complete the image was fussy cut with scissors right up to the line. I used a black Memento Marker to color the edges of the image. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back for a little dimension.

I wanted to add some visual interest behind the focal image and decided to use WeR Memory Keepers Flower Embossing Folder. I first cut a scalloped rectangle and then embossed it. It looked okay, but I decided to step it up a bit and used the same Copic Markers to color the flowers, I also used a light green on the leaves. I really liked the outcome. Foam tape was added to the embossed scalloped rectangle and it was then adhered to a top folding cardbase. The backing was removed from the foam tape on the back of the focal image and it was adhered to the card front.

The sentiment was stamped using a coral pink ink from Gina K. Designs and then was die cut using a stitched fishtail sentiment die. Foam tape was added to either side of the sentiment die, leaving an opening for the legs of the image.

Rainbow Who’s Counting

I had all the positive numbers left over from my previous card and didn’t want to just through them away, so I decided to glue them together and add them to the front a panel that was cut with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Stackable Rectangle, which is the same size as a card front.

Once I had all the number it place it was kind of blah and I didn’t like it. So I pulled out my Copic Markers and colored all the number in rainbow order. I think this is my favorite version of this card. It is so bright and colorful.

I used the same sentiment stamp from Penny Black. It was stamped on black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed white. I used a smaller Memory Box Matinee Rectangle to cut it down. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back and it was adhered in the center of the card.

It’s Just a Number – Who’s Counting

I saw a card on Pinterest by iminhaven that she had created for her father’s 75th birthday. I thought maybe I would replace the previous card I made for my husband with this one, but my daughter Janae liked the first one best, so I didn’t adhered the large “70” onto the front of the card, but made it more generic to be used for anyone.

Iminhaven used difference sized number dies to create her background. I didn’t have a large number die set, so I decided to create it in the Silhouette, which worked out well because you didn’t have to keep placing individual dies, you could cut the entire background at once. I cut it four times from white cardstock and adhered them all together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive.

I then tried to die cut the panel using a stitched rectangle, but it was just too thick to cut through all layers. It did add the nice stitching though and I simply trimmed it down with my guillotine cutter. It was then adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase.

The most time consuming task of creating this card was adhered all the tiny pieces that were the center of the numbers. It took quite awhile.

Once the back ground was complete I went searching for a sentiment that would work with all the numbers in the background and found a perfect sentiment from Penny Black Sprinkles & Smiles. It was stamped on black cardstock and heat embossed white and then cut down into a small rectangle. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back and it was adhered in the top center of the card.

Cruisin’ Into Your Birthday in a Classic Malibu

My husband had this exact car when he was a teenager and his was red and white. He said that you screwed the tail like off to fill the car with gas. How cool is that.

I stamped the image onto some Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored it with Copic Markers. I used the coordinating die to cut it out. I also cut some sticky back foam with the same die and adhered the two together for dimension.

The sentiments were stamped and cut using the coordinating dies, along with sticky back foam for dimension.

I wanted to add some visual interest behind the car so I cut a smaller rectangle of white cardstock using a stitched rectangle and embossed it using the Sizzix Foundry 3D Embossing Folder. Red cardstock was matted behind the embossed rectangle and it was adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase.

The car and sentiments were adhered using liquid glue and the car was done.

You’re Not Old – Your a Classic Corvette

Who didn’t want a sporty Corvette when they were growing up and my dream was always that it would a bright and shiny red.

I stamped the image onto Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored it with Copic Markers. Once the coloring was complete it was cut using the coordinating die. I also used the die to cut some sticky back foam and adhered the card to it for dimension.

I picked a couple of the sentiment from Honey Bee Stamp’s You’re a Classic stamp set and cut them out with the coordinating dies. Sticky back foam was also cut and added to the back of the sentiments.

To add visual interest behind the card I cut down a panel of what cardstock with a stitched rectangle and embossed it with the Sizzix Mechanics 3D Embossing Folder. It was matted with black cardstock and adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase with liquid glue.

The car and sentiments were adhered using liquid glue and the card was done.

You’re Not Old – You’re Vintage (Ford Pickup)

I learned to drive in a green Ford Pickup. Not as old as this one from Honey Bee Stamps but still pretty old. The good thing about learning to drive a stick shift is once you get the clutch and gas down you can drive nearly anything.

I stamped it onto Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored it with Copic Markers. I then used the coordinating die to cut it out. Using the die sticky back foam was cut and added to the back of the car.

I wanted to add some visual interest behind the car and pulled out Sizzix’s Woven 3D Embossing Folder and embossed a smaller rectangle that would cut down using a stitched die. It was matted with some green cardstock from my stash.

I love the way that Honey Bee Stamps has coordinating dies for their sentiments. If you get their Car Show stamp set, you really need to get their You’re a Classic, which has perfect sentiments to go along with the vintage and classic cars in the set. I stamped a couple of the sentiments and cut them out with coordinating dies. I used the coordinating dies to also cut some sticky back foam and added it to the sentiments.

The embossed rectangle was added to a top folding A2 cardbase and then the car and sentiment were added with liquid glue and the card was done.

My friend said that “vintage” was worse than “classic” it meant you were even older. I reminded her we were going to be 69 this year and that was vintage and vintage is rare.
