Penny Black Sweetheart Mimi Birthday

This cute image with heart flowers was perfect for a young woman who had a February birthday.  As always, the image was colored with the favorite colors of the person it is intended for.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.  It was then colored with Copic Markers RV11, RV13, RV14; E01, E00, E000, E0000, R20; G24, G94; B39, B37, B34; B32, B34; E55, E53, E51.

Once the coloring was complete the image was cut with the Silhouette Cameo using the PIXScan Mat.  To enhance the blue in the image a rectangle of blue cardstock was cut using the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  Another rectangle was cut with the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles out of BoBunny DoubleDot Light Blue Stripe cardstock.  The two blue rectangles were adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and a rectangle of Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was cut with the Lawn Fawn rectangle die and adhered to the back of the rectangles.

For the focal image a label was cut with Spellbinders Nested Medallion Labels out of Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  It was then run through the Sizzix Big Shot again with DoCrafts Small Polka Hearts Embossing Folder.  The focal image was applied to the label using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  To add dimension, the label was cut again with Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and trimmed to be 1/8″ smaller, it was then applied to the back of the white focal image label.

The focal image label was placed on the blue striped rectangle to determine placement for the sentiment from Gina K. Designs Birthday Greetings and stamped with Altenew’s Sapphire Ink.  The focal image was then applied to the rectangles using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

A horizontal cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the rectangles and focal image was applied with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Doodlebug Blue Jeans Sequins and Martha Stewart Blueberry Slush Hearts were scattered and glued to the card front using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

Heartfelt Creations Sun Kissed Fleur Striped Thank You

I have had the Heartfelt Creations Sun Kissed Fleur Striped stamp set for years.  I’ve tried to use it but have had a hard time using the matching die. The stamp it a large rubber stamp with all the flowers stamped at one time.  The matching die is a solid multi flower cut and I just could not keep all the flowers aligned to get an even cut around the images.  The other day I thought about using my Silhouette PixScan to cut the images and it worked beautifully.

I stamped the images on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black and then colored them with Copic Markers, colors used are listed below.  Once the coloring was done I placed them on the PixScan Mat, took a photo of the image with my cell phone, and then cut them with the Silhouette Cameo.  Once the flowers were cut I used my bone folder to curve the petals.  I took a large flower and then a medium flower and adhered them together offset with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and set them aside.

Next I cut a rectangle of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Then I ink blended Distress Ink Tumbled Glass.  I stamped the sentiment from Gina K. Designs Happy Thoughts with Hero Hues India Ink Black in the upper right corner of the rectangle.  After these steps were complete it was run through the Sizzix Big Shot again with the Darice Basketweave Embossing Folder.  With my paper cutter a rectangle of Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller than the embossed rectangle and adhered to the back.

The flowers and leaves were arranged on the embossed rectangle and adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Then the rectangle was adhered to a horizontal A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue added to the back of the fun foam. I decided to use some Queen and Co. Rock Candy Yellow Rhinestones for the flower centers and the card was done.

Altenew Remember This Birthday Wishes

I recently purchased Altenew’s Remember This stamp set after watching a video on YouTube.  I also recently purchased the new Altenew Warm & Cozy ink cubes and wanted to use the beautiful oranges with the flowers in this stamp set.  It turned out vibrant and beautiful.  The picture does adequately show the shadows on the flowers on these layering images.  I can see myself using this stamp set again and again in the future.

I began by stamping the Flowers in Altenew Orange Cream on 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.  The next layer was stamped with Autumn Glaze, these stamps were probably one of the easiest layering stamps I have used, or maybe I’m finally getting the hang of using them.  The final layer was stamped with Altenew Firebrick. The last step was to stamp the outline of the images with Hero Hues  India Ink Black.  The leaves were stamped in a similar process with Altenew Frayed Leaf and Forest Glade. The bud was stamped with Altenew Buttercream and Warm Sunshine. Once the stamping was complete the images were cut with the matching dies.

I love the look of clean and simple cards with white on white layering.  A top folding A2 Cardbase was made from 120# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.  A rectangle was cut from 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Another rectangle was cut from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and trimmed to be slightly smaller and then applied to the back of the white rectangle.

The flowers were arranged on the rectangle to determine the placement of the sentiment.  Press and Seal was used to keep the flower arrangement together until it could be adhered to the rectangle.  The sentiment, which is from Clearly Besotted Layered Chrysanthemums, was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

Tombo Mono Multi Glue was added to the back layer of the flower arrangement and placed on the rectangle.  I put slight pressure on the images and wait about 30 to 60 seconds before removing the Press and Seal.  The top two flowers were adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to add dimension.  Sequins from Doodlebug Tangerine and Pretty Pink Posh Tangerine were added for additional embellishment with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  The rectangle was then adhered to the card base with Tombo Mono Multi Glue on the back of the fun foam and the card was done.

Whimsy Stamps Cupcake Treat Trio Birthday

I was cleaning up my desk and found Whimsy Stamps Cupcake Treat Trio stamp and thought I would make a card for an upcoming birthday for a friend.  I knew that I wanted it to have pink and so I went to my stash of cardstock and found BoBunny DoubleDots Passion Fruit Cardstock and thought it would make a great background for the focal image.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.  I colored the image with the Copic Markers listed below, with the pink icing cupcake taking center stage, and who doesn’t like chocolate cupcakes.  After the coloring was complete I cut the focal image with the Spellbinders Wonky Rectangle using my Sizzix Big Shot.  Another rectangle was cut from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and then trimmed to be slightly smaller so it wouldn’t show when adhered behind the focal image.

An A2 landscape cardbase was created from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A rectangle was cut from the pink patterned paper using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle and was adhered to the front of the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The focal image wonky rectangle was adhered by Tombo Mono Multi Glue on the back of the fun foam.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Happy.  It was die cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror cardstock and then again three additional times from scraps of white cardstock.  All were glued together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and then adhered to the focal image with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  To add a little more sparkle Tiding Stickles was added to the confetti dots and the card was done.

Penny Black Bonjour! Mimi Birthday

I am always looking for some good girl images for the birthday cards I make for the young women at church.  Recently I purchased Penny Black’s Bonjour! Mimi.  We have a young woman who wants to be an interior designer when she grows up and what better image would convey style and design.

Her favorite colors are grey and white.  I stamped the image on 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  For a little color accent I used a pale blue.  The Copic Marker colors used are listed below.  When I was done coloring I used the Silhouette PixScan to cut around the image.  (I usually stamp and color several images and cut them all at once.)

I used Spellbinders Label 16 to cut two labels from 80# Gina K. Designs White and 120# Moonlit Fog.  The white label was then run through the Sizzix Big Shot with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder. Additionally, two rectangles were cut from the same cardstock, the white with Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles, and the grey with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the two rectangles were adhered to the card front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

For the focal image the two labels were glued together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back to give dimension to the focal image.  The Mimi image also received 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and was adhered to the center of the labels.

For the sentiment Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Congrats was die cut four times from the grey cardstock and adhered together with Elmer’s Craft Bond Adhesive Spray.  The focal image and Congrats die cut were placed on the front of the cardbase to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment, which is from the same Hero Arts stamp set, and stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat set with Ranger Silver Embossing Powder.  Then the card was assembled together with the sentiment cutout being adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  Silver Stickles was added to the necklace and purse buckle, and some leftover teal blue hearts were scattered around the sentiment and the card was done.

My Favorite Things Steeped in Love: Hope You Feel Better Soon

I have an elderly friend who has really had a rough year.  I wanted to send her a card to let her know I was thinking of her and hoping that she would feel better soon.  I recently purchased My Favorite Things Steep In Love and thought it would make a perfect card.

I stamped the little girl image on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  I modified the image a little by adding bangs and socks, and enlarging the eyes with a Sakura Pigma Micron 01 Archival Ink Pen.  I colored the image using Copic Markers, colors used are listed below.  Once the coloring was done I cutout the image with the matching die and the Sizzix Big Shot.

A rectangle was cut from Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  The focal image was placed on the rectangle to determine placement of the sentiment, which is from the Steeped in Love stamp set.  The sentiment was stamped with Altenew Persian Blue Ink.  Copic C1 and C2 were used to ground the image so that she didn’t appear to be floating on air.  The focal image was adhered to the rectangle using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

For added color another rectangle was cut using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitches Shapes out of My Minds Eye Feeling Groovy Cardstock.  An A2 Top Folding Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the blue rectangle was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Next the white rectangle with the focal image was adhered using the same glue and the card was done.

Altenew Lacy Scrolls Sympathy

I bought some Derwent Inktense Pencils several years ago and have never used them.  This month my challenge has been to use stamps and product that I have not yet used.  I watched a video recently from Jennifer McQuire where she used colored pencils to add depth and dimension to a stamped image and thought I would give it a try.  I also used the Altenew Lacy Scrolls for the first time and think they turned out beautiful.

First I stamped the flowers and leaves on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock using the Altenew Rouge and Forest Glade Inks and then cut them out using the matching dies.

Next I selected Derwent Inktense 36: 0200 Sun Yellow, 1530 Felt Green, 0300 Tangerine, 2300 Antique White to add the highlights and shadows to the images.  In her video Jennifer used an eraser to smooth out the edges of the pencil coloring.  I used the Tombo Mono Zero Elastomer Eraser.  It has a very small tip and yet is a very good eraser.  At first I wasn’t sure I liked the effect.  It is not as smooth as the transition and blending you get with Copic Markers, but over time it really grew on me and I liked it more and more.

Once I was done coloring I die cut some Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and arranged the flowers and leaves the way I wanted them to determine placement of the sentiment.  Since I wanted this to be a sympathy card I wanted a softer feel and so the sentiment from Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings was stamped with Altenew Silver Stone Ink.  All the flowers and leaves were then adhered to the rectangle with Tombo Mono Multi Glue, except the lowest flower, it was adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape for a little dimension.

An A2 Top Folding Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  A scattering of Simon Says Stamp Moonshine Rhinestones were added with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was complete.

  • Altenew Lacy Scrolls
  • Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings
  • Gina K. Designs Assorted Greetings (inside)
  • Altenew Rouge, Silver Stone, Forest Glade Ink

A Farm Life Get Well

My Uncle Melvin is ninety years old and recently had surgery.  He was a successful dry farmer in his younger years and I thought the barn and silo scene from Gina K. Designs Farm Life would make a nice get well card.

I stamped the image on 80# Gina K. Designs Ivory Cardstock with Memento Rich Cocoa and colored it with Copic Markers, colors used are listed below.  I stamped a sentiment from Gina K. Designs Assorted Greetings on the bottom of the image with the same Memento ink.

I die cut the image with Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and then cut a smaller piece of Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and applied it to the back.

A horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  I decided I wanted a little more color to the background of the image and so I found in my stash of cardstock some BoBunny Doubledot Design Chiffon Stripe and die cut it with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  The paper warped a little when I ran it through the Big Shot so it was adhered to the cardbase with 1″ Score Tape. The focal image was adhered to the center of the card front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.  Pretty simple and easy.

Rainbow Ink Blended Masculine Birthday Cards II

I had a little more of the rainbow ink blended cardstock left and so I decided to make another couple of cards.  This time I wanted to see what rainbow letters would look like on black cardstock, and I love the way it turned out.  The second card uses gold mirror cardstock behind the negative word cutout.

For the first card a horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock.  To add interest to the front of the card a rectangle of black cardstock was cut using the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle and then Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger.  The two were adhered together with Scor Tape.

The Silhouette cut letters are Franklin Gothic Heavy Font at 138.5 pt, stretched to be a little taller and cut from leftover rainbow ink blended cardstock.  The letters were applied to the black rectangle using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  The easiest way to align them is to use the negative cutout for placement.  The secondary sentiment is from the Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake stamp set, stamped with VersaMark Ink, and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The focal rectangle was adhered to the black cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The second card uses the negative space of the rainbow ink blended cardstock cutout.  A strip of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock cut 1/4″ taller than the letters was added to the back with 3M 1/2″ foam tape cut to go around the letters and give them dimension and support.  The secondary sentiment is from the Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake stamp set, stamped with VersaMark Ink, and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.

A rectangle of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was die cut using the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back.  The word strip was adhered to the white rectangle with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  A horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal rectangle was glued to the cardbase using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Rainbow Ink Blended Masculine Birthday Cards

I wanted to created some ink blended rainbow backgrounds that could make a few great masculine birthday cards.  I thought it would look great if the rainbow colors were behind a large word cutout. However, I didn’t have any die that was big enough for what I wanted, so I went to my Silhouette to create the word HAPPY in the size I wanted.  It’s easy to make two separate cards with the positive and negative words.  I really like the way the cards turned out.

I began by creating a file in my Silhouette that was just smaller than the width of a horizontal A2 cardbase.  I wanted the letters to be a little chunky and so I used the Franklin Gothic Heavy Font at 138.5 pt, but I stretched it to be a little taller.  I cut the word from Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock.

Next I ink blended a half sheet of 80# cardstock with the Distress Ink listed below.  I love the way it turned out.  I die cut a rectangle of the rainbow blended paper with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  I placed the cutout letters onto the card to determine the placement of the secondary sentiment from My Favorite Things Big Birthday Sentiments.  It was stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.

3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the cutout letters for added dimension.  The easiest way to make sure the individual letters are spaced correctly and straight it to put the negative of the cutout on the card and use it as a template to place the letters, which adhered easily with the foam tape.

Next, I cut a piece of Darice Adhesive Fun Foam to be 1/8″ smaller than the rainbow rectangle.  A horizontal A2 cardbase was created from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the rainbow rectangle was adhered to the cardbase using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

The second card was used by taking the negative word cutout and cutting it down to a narrow strip.  Next leftover rainbow cardstock was added behind the strip.  To add a little more interest some gold mirror cardstock was cut just wider than the strip and added to the back.

A rectangle of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was cut with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was added to the back.  The word strip was placed on the white rectangle to determine placement of the secondary sentiment from Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake Stamp set, which was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  The “HAPPY” strip was adhered to the white rectangle using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

A horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal word rectangle was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.
