Happy Birthday Cupcake

For the masculine cards I made in October I used a lot of Silhouette Designs.  For this card is pulled the PPbN Designs Pink Sprinkled Cake, but the great thing about silhouette files is you can make the designs any color you desire.

Who doesn’t love chocolate cake, and in a cupcake you can indulge and enjoy.  This has lots of blue frosting, with candy sprinkles from using Mikuki Seed Beads Lagoon Mix.

The base of the cupcake was cut from scraps of brown cardstock.  Shading and dimension was added using Copic Markers.  The Frosting was cut from scrap of light aqua cardstock.  Copic Markers were also used to add shading and dimension and then the seed beads were added using Ranger Multi Medium Matt.

From my stash of cardstock scraps a piece of dark teal cardstock was used to cut a rectangle using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to the front of an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.

The Papertrey Ink Wonderful Words Birthday Die was cut from the same light aqua cardstock and then shading was added to the bottom with Copic Markers.

The cupcake top and bottom was adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and 3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back.  The cupcake and the die cut “birthday” were placed on the card front to determine where to place the secondary sentiment from Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy, which was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  Then the cupcake and “birthday” word were adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Mirror Balloon Birthday Cards

I thought the balloons with cutout shapes from the Silhouette Designs Miss Kate Cuttables Assorted Balloons would a little like Mylar balloons if backed with Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  It comes with circles, hearts, and stars, but I wanted one with the tassels that are at the top of a party hat, so I also used the Basic Grey Party Hat for one of the balloon in this card.

My son Patrick loves black and grey, so for his birthday I decided to cut the top layer of the balloon from some Recollections Essentials 6 x 6 Paper Pad Black Cardstock.  The balloon base and strings were cut from the mirror cardstock.  I loved the way they turned out.

I die cut the Mama Elephant Birthday Script Die from the same mirror cardstock and three times from the black.  They were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive, offsetting the gold on the black just a little.

I had seen Carissa Wiley used a strip of cardstock that she had created with a diagonal strip stamp.  I decided to use the Simon Says Stamp Diagonal Stripes Background Stamp, stamping it on Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and heat emboss it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I cut a 1” strip and glued it to the left of an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A rectangle was cut from the same cardstock 4 x 5 ½”.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back to add dimension and then glued to the front of the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The balloons and birthday word cutout were placed on this rectangle to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment from Winnie & Walter Sentimental Birthday with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  The back balloon was adhered directly to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the second balloon.  The “birthday” die cut was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte, which was also used to adhere the balloon strings and the card was done.

I love the way this card turned out so much that I decided to create it again using Navy Cardstock and a little different design. This is the second card that I created using the Silhouette Designs Miss Kate Cuttables Assorted Balloons.  For this card I used Navy Cardstock, along with gold polka dot cardstock from Echo Park Dots & Stripes.  A rectangle of navy cardstock 1/8” larger than the polka dot paper was added to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then glued to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with the same glue.  The top and bottom layers of the balloons were adhered together with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  One balloon was adhered to the gold polka dot cardstock with the same adhesive and the second balloon was adhered using 3M ½” Foam Tape.

The sentiment from Papertrey Ink Inside & Out Birthday was stamped with VersaMark Ink on a strip of navy cardstock and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back and adhered to the lower third of the card over the balloon strings.

Cutouts from the navy balloon top layers were used as embellishments and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Elizabeth Background Birthday Card I, II, and III

I recently purchased Simon Says Stamp Elizabeth Background Stamp.  It is a beautiful, detailed medallion stamp.  It was stamped three times onto Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and then heat embossed with Hero Arts Ultra Fine Clear Embossing Powder.

I decided to color the images with both Copic Markers and Spectrum Noir Markers.  You have to be very careful with coloring with alcohol markers on images with embossing powder since can ruin the nibs of the markers.

This first image was stamped with Copic Markers: Y00, Y04, Y06 / YG51, YG53, G94 / RV11, RV13, RV14 / R39, RV69 / BG18, BG15 / G46, G29.  Once the coloring was completed it was die cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and adhered to the back of the focal image with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was die cut with the same rectangle die and adhered to the back of the focal image.

The sentiment is from Gina K. Designs Grand Greetings and was stamped on a strip of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back and then the sentiment was adhered to the lower rectangle of the focal image panel.

The focal image panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

VThis second card made with Simon Says Stamp Elizabeth Background Stamp was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers: IG1, IG2 / DR1, DR5 / PP3, PP5 / CG2, DG3 / TB3.  This time the focal image was die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Everything else with the card was assembled the same as the last one.

Ornate Birthday Background

This second card made with Simon Says Stamp Elizabeth Background Stamp was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers: PP3, PP5 / DG21, DG3 / DR1, DR5 / BT4, BT5.  This time the focal image was die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Everything else with the card was assembled the same as the last one.

Simon Says Stamp Ornate Background Stamp makes a beautiful card, but it isn’t one that can be created quickly.  There is a lot of detail to the image and it takes a white to color it, with whatever medium is used.  For this card it was stamped on Canson XL 140# Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  Even though I didn’t use watercolor paper I decided to color the card using FineTec M600 Gold Watercolor Paint and Kuretake Gansai Tambi Pearl Watercolor.

Once the coloring was dry I die cut the panel using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle and matted the back with Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock cut 1/8” larger.  The two were adhered together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The sentiment is from C. C. Designs Amy R Elegant Greetings.  (Unfortunately this stamp set is no longer available, but there are other lovely script greetings that can be used.)  It was stamped on a scrap of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The sentiment was matted with Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock, Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back and then it was adhered to the focal image.

The focal panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the card was done.  Beautiful and elegant.

Stitched Leaves Birthday Card

I love these beautiful leaves from the Gina K. Designs Stitched Leaves stamp set.  When I was searching through my patterned paper for other cards I ran across this one from the Echo Park 6 x 6 Lori Whitlock the Story of all and decided to use it as the color pallet for the leaves.

I stamped the leaves with Gina K. Designs Ink: Cherry Red, Tomato Soup, Prickly Pear, and Warm Cocoa.  For the second layer I decided to use Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I stamped the detailed layer stamp with VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed the gold embossing powder.  It makes a very elegant looking leaf.  They were then die cut with the coordinating dies.

I had this golden modern chevron circle left over from another card and thought it would create neutral background for the leaves.  I stamped the arched sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Best Ever stamp set with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with the Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I die cut a circle from Darice Sticky Back Foam and trimmed it down to be slightly smaller and adhered it to the back of the patterned paper circle.

The patterned paper for Lori Whitlock’s The Story of Fall was die cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle and adhered directly to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  The chevron circle was then adhered to the front of this panel with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The leaves were then adhered with the same glue, with the exception of the large red maple leaf, which was applied using 3M ½” Foam Tape.

I felt that the card needed a little division from the upper leaves portion and the bottom of the card and so I strip of yellow cardstock was cut and adhered using a thin strip of 3M foam tape.  As a final embellishment, I remember that I had some leaf brads left over from my scrapbooking days and adhered it to the left of the gold strip of paper with Memory Box Glue Dots and the card was done.

My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers Birthday Card

When I cut the woodgrain banner rectangle from the Echo Park Lori White The Story of Fall it had a cute flower corner that was left behind.  It was just a pretty, colorful paper that I just had to use it.

So, I went through my flower dies and pulled out the My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers die.  I then went through my scraps of solid colored cardstock and found some that matched the colors on the patterned paper.  I found some yellow cardstock and cut it 1/8” larger than the woodgrain paper and adhered to the two together using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  I then arranged the flower around the corner left behind in the patterned paper and adhered them to the panel using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and 3M ½” Foam Tape.

For a sentiment I pulled out the Mama Elephant Birthday Script Die and cut it once from the red cardstock and twice more from yellow cardstock and adhered them together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive Spray.  It was then glued to the open yellow rectangle of the card front.  The word “HAPPY” is from Hero Arts Birthday Messages and was stamped on a scrap of red cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossing using Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder.  A fishtail was added to the right and then it was adhered just above the “birthday” die cut with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I felt like the white on the card was too stark and so I use Copic Marker E50 Egg Shell to color everything that was white on the card.

A rectangle of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the focal image and adhered to the back.  A side folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the focal image was adhered with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

The Story of Fall Happy Birthday Banner Card

When I was going through my patterned paper I ran across this pretty woodgrain paper from the Echo Park 6 x 6 Paper Pad by Lori Whitlock – The Story of Fall, which had a small printed banner and decided it would make a great card.

I originally die cut it using the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Using my Silhouette I cut some additional banners with the word “HAPPY” cut out of some scraps of solid cardstock.  When I went to place them on the card, the letters just didn’t stand out enough on the card, so I die cut some matching banners without the letters from another patterned paper from the paper pad and glue it behind the letter banners and that made them pop.  I wanted a large “Birthday” word die and could find anything I liked, so I decided to use Papertrey Ink’s Text Block Birthday Horizontal and fussy cut just the work “Birthday” from the sentiment and adhered it under the word banners with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I felt there was too much dead space on the card front and so I decided to make it a square card.  I cut down the rectangle to be 3 ¾” square.  Another 4” square was cut from the red cardstock and the two were glued together using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  A 4 3/16” square cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Avery Elle Bring on the Cake HB2U Card

This is the last card I made recently with the Avery Elle Bring on the Cake stamp set.  I used the Echo Park Lori Whitlock The Story of Fall to find this bright and colorful polka dot paper.

I first die cut the patterned paper using the largest Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.  The cupcake images are small and so in planning the card I thought three images would make a cute card front.  I remembered that I had the Simon Says Stamp Square Sayings Tri Square Die and placed it on the right of the patterned paper and ran it through the big shot.  I used 3M ½” Foam Tape on the back of the card to be able to tuck the cupcakes into the square opening.

I stamped three cupcakes on Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  The patterned paper was the inspiration for the Copic Colored used (E19, E07, R08; YR15, YR16, YR18; E49, E59, E57; BG13, BG11, BG10; G99, G94, G24; YR24, YR23, YR21).  Once the coloring was complete they were run through the Big Shot with the matching die and a small piece of foam tape was added to the back.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs Ivory Cardstock and the patterned paper was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The cupcake were tucked into the opening and adhered by removing the backing on the foam tape.

It took me a little white to decide what kind of sentiment I wanted on the card.  There was a lot of open space on the left of the cupcake and I finally decided to create some banners.  I pulled out the My Favorite Things Pierced Traditional Tag STAX and Tag Talks dies.  I used scraps of paper used on other cards made with this stamp set.  I extended the length of Traditional Tags by running them through the Big Shot Twice and doing some off the edge die cutting.  To hold all the tags together Darice Jewelry Designer Hemp Cord was threaded through the holes.  A little Ranger Multi Medium Matte was placed at the top of the larger tag and then adhered to the top left of the card front and the card was done.

Wishing You Nothing Bundt the Best Birthday Card

This is another card made from Avery Elle Bring on the Cake.  I thought the sentiment was really cute when using the Bundt Cake image.

I went through my patterned paper and pulled a colorful plaid pattern from Lawn Fawns Perfectly Plaid 6 x 6 Paper Pack.  I die cut it using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and used a smaller rectangle to cut out an opening in the center of the panel.

A side folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Kraft Cardstock and the plaid rectangle was adhered to the front using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive Tape.

Next the Bundt Cake image was stamped on Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then colored with Copic Markers E49, E59, E57; YR15, YR16, YR18; YR21, YR23, YR24.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back for added dimension on the card.

Before placing the focal image the sentiment was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa Ink using the MISTI to ensure a deep, dark impression and then the backing was removed from the foam tape and the focal image was applied.

Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents was added to the frosting and the card was done.

Birthday Cake Has No Calories

Avery Elle’s Bring on the Cake has a lot of cut images that can made fun birthday cards.  For this card I found a great patterned paper from Pebbles Fall & Cooking 6 x 6 Paper Pad.  I like the interesting modern chevron stripes.  I die cut a rectangle using the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.  Next I die cut a circle out of the patterned paper using a Simon Says Stamp Nested Circle die.  This allowed the slice of cake to take center stage.  I cut a rectangle of Darice Sticky Back Foam 1/8” smaller and die cut a circle out of it using a slightly larger die and adhered it to the back of the patterned paper.

I stamped the slice of cake image on Neena 80# Solar White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored it with Copic Markers E49, E59, E57; Y00, Y11, E50; YR21, YR23, YR24.  The image was then die cut using the matching die.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back for dimension on the card.

I combined a couple of the sentiments from the stamp set and stamped them below the circle on the patterned paper with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the patterned paper rectangle was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The backing was removed from the foam tape and the cake image was adhered to the center of the circle.  As a finishing touch a few Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were scatter around the sentiment and Clear Wink of Stella was added to the platter and the card was done.
