Wish Big On Your Birthday Balloons Card

Most men I know like the color blue.  I needed a few masculine cards and so I went to all of my 6 x 6 paper packs and starting looking for some blue patterned paper.  The papers used for this card come from the Echo Park 6 x 6 Hello Winter Paper Pad.

I recently purchased the Avery Elle Balloons stamp and die set and decided to cut a lot of different sized balloons out of paper from this pack.  I die cut some Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with the largest My Favorite things Wonky Rectangle and began laying the balloons out on a panel.  Once I had them where I wanted them I would carefully life a balloon and add some Ranger Multi Medium Matte to the back and adhered to the rectangle.  In retrospect, it would have been easier if I had used some Press and Seal, but it worked out okay.  I then took a Blue Glitter Gel Pen from KaiserCrafts and added strings to the balloons.

At this point it looked pretty busy and I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a card I wanted to keep, but I pulled out Papertrey Ink’s Text Block Birthday Horizontal and die cut it from Paper Accents Silver Metallic Cardstock. And then twice more from Gina K. Designs 120# Navy Cardstock.  They were adhered together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Spray Adhesive a little offset so that the navy blue could be seen behind the silver cardstock.  It was adhered to the balloon panel using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  The sentiment is large enough that it toned down the background and I liked the card.

The balloon background was run through the Big Shot with the largest My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle, then a rectangle of the navy cardstock was cut 1/8” larger than the focal panel.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut with the wonky rectangle die and adhered to the back of the focal image.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was applied using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Avery Elle Floral Bouquet Birthday

I recently purchased Avery Elle’s Floral Bouquet stamp set.  The matching dies make it easy to have a lovely bouquet cutout to place on a card.

I stamped the images on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink since I planned to color it with Copic Markers.  Colors used were: G21, G94, YG17; V22, V25; R89, R85, R83, R81.  I really liked the combination of deep pink and purple.  Once the coloring was done it was run through the Big Shot with the matching dies.  I decided to place the bouquet on an oval cut with a My Favorite Things Stitched Oval STAX die.  The oval was cut again with Darice Sticky Back Foam and then trimmed down to be just smaller than the shape and the two were adhered together.

I placed the bouquet where I planned to adhere it to determine where to stamp the sentiment, which is from the same stamp set.  It was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  The bouquet was adhered to the oval with 3M ½” Foam Tape.  The small sprig of two flower buds was adhered with Multi Medium Matte and tucked under the right edge of the bouquet.

I think an embossed background adds interest and dimension to a card, so a rectangle of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was die cut with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and then run through the Big Shot with the Cuttlebug Oxford Embossing Folder.  It was adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The focal image oval was adhered in the center of the card with the same glue.  To accent the stamen in the center of the flowers Platinum Stickles was added.  As a finishing touch Clear Wink of Stella was added to the flowers and the card was done.

OCC Rainbow Maker: Birthday Hooray

I love the Online Card Classes that are hosted by Kristine Werner and Jennifer McGuire.  I have learned so much by taking these classes and feel that my cardmaking skills have increased by watching the techniques and instructions that are shared.  Recently I have been participating in the Rainbow Maker class and have a few cards that I will be posting using techniques learned in the class.

The first is this birthday card using a watercolor background and a coverup die from Avery Elle.  I love the way it turned out.

I began by watercoloring a rainbow background using my Mission Gold Watercolors on Canson XL 140# Watercolor Paper.  Colors used are listed below.

While the watercolor background was drying a die cut three of Avery Elle’s Horizontal Stripes Coverup from Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock and adhered them together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive.  This die also cuts the “hooray!” sentiment.

I adhered the coverup and sentiment to the watercolor background with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  A top folding A2 Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image and die were adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

I think this will make a great masculine birthday card, which are always a challenge to design and create.

Supplies Used:

  • Canson XL 140# Watercolor Cardstock

Hero Arts Color Layering Parrot: Make a Wish Birthday

My granddaughter Aurora turns twelve on July 21.  She has a blue and yellow parakeet and while I didn’t find a stamp with that bird, I did find the Hero Arts Color Layering Parrot stamp and cut.

I stamped the image on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Altenew Inks: Buttercream, Mango Smoothie, Sea Glass, Ocean Waves, Dusk, and Industrial Diamond and then die cut it using the matching dies.

To make the background look like sky I pulled some light blue cardstock from my stash, die cut it using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes, and ink blended it using the Inkylicioius Ink Blending Tool and Altenew Sea Glass and Ocean Waves ink.

I decided to have the parrot perched on a branch so I went looking through my stamp sets and pulled out the large branch from Altenew’s Vintage Flowers and stamped it to the ink blended panel with Altenew Dark Chocolate Ink.  It was now time to add the leaves from the Layering Parrot stamp set.  I wanted them to stay within the same color scheme so I pulled out Altenew’s Moss, Olive, Parrot, and Lagoon and randomly stamped the leaves on the branch, as well as in the upper right corner.

The sentiment is from Avery Elle Cupcakes and was stamped in the lower left of the card with Altenew Lagoon Ink.  The MISTI was used so that it could be stamped a few times to intensify the color.  The parrot was adhered to the branch using 3M ½” Foam Tape and the card was done.  I love the way this card turned out.

Three Cupcakes Birthday Card

My favorite cards to make are floral images, but they don’t make very good masculine birthday cards.  Birthday Cupcakes are very neutral and who doesn’t like a cupcake and so I decided to use three.

A long time ago I purchase a paper pack of glitter paper.  I pulled out some white, yellow, and orange to die cut the cupcakes from Avery Elle Cupcakes.  To add some dimension Copic Markers YR24, YR07, and C3 were used to add shading to the images.

A top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock.  The cupcakes were adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue for the two side cupcakes and the middle cupcake was adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

For the sentiment I pulled out The Paper Studio eat Cake 12 x 12 Paper Pad and cut a strip of Celebrate.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back for dimension.

I’ve seen Kristin Werner add dash lines with a white pen to some of her cards and decided that it would look good.  I really like the way it turned out.

Love You Molli Make a Wish Birthday Card

This card was made for Kara Lee whose favorite colors are Turquoise and Green.  This is a new image from La-La Land Crafts entitled Love You Mollie.  I love her beautiful, flowing hair and cute boots.

The image was stamped with Tuxedo Black Ink on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers (listed below).  Once the coloring was complete it was die cut using the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.  I searched my stash of cardstock and found a matching turquoise, which was cut 1/8″ larger than the focal image. Darice Sticky Back Fun Foam was added to the back.  The sentiment from Avery Elle Cupcakes was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image rectangle was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue. Bottle Green Nuvo Crystal Drops were added to the heart on the t-shirt and the card was done.

Blossoms Love Balloons Make a Wish Birthday Card

This card is for Centhy who is a senior this year and will be moving on to new and exciting adventures in her life.  Her favorite colors are pink and black.

I found some great black and gray paper to use as a background for this card in the Colorbok 8 1/2″ x 11″ Moonlight Designer Paper.  It was die cut using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  I found some hot pink cardstock in my stash and cut it with my paper trimmer 1/8″ larger than the patterned paper.  These two rectangles were glued together with Tombo Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive and then adhered to a top folding A2 Cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The focal image from Stamping Bella Tiny Townie Blossoms Love Balloons was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock and colored with Copic Markers (listed below).  Once the coloring was complete the focal image was die cut with the second largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  A hot pink rectangle 1/8″ larger was cut and adhered to the back with Tombo Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive.

The sentiment from Avery Elle Cupcakes was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  Darice Sticky Back Fun Foam was added to the back of the focal image and then adhered to the front of the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Wink of Stella was added to the balloons and the card was done.

Penny Black Gladsome Flowers Birthday Card

Penny Black has some beautiful new stamps for 2017.  I have been creating quite a few in the past week and will be posting them today.  The Gladsome Flowers stamp is a large flower bouquet that cover most of a page and created a lovely focal image.

I stamped the image on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink using the MISTI to ensure a crisp, dark image was achieved.  I colored the image using Copic Markers, colors used are listed below.  To help the image standout a highlight was added using BG0000 and BG000.

Because the image is so large, the sentiment needed to be smaller and fit in the corner of the page.  Avery Elle Cupcake stamp set fit perfectly and was stamped using the MISTI and Hero Hues India Ink Black.

The image was die cut using the largest die from Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was cut just smaller and applied to the back of the panel for added dimension and interest.  The focal image rectangle was applied to an A2 Top Folding Cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Noble Deer Masculine Birthday Card

My brother-in-law is an avid hunter and my sister is a saint since their home and cabin is decorated in hundreds of stuffed animals.  Although I like to take pictures of these noble creatures, Kirk enjoys the challenge of the hunt and has done it in Russia, Alaska, Africa, New Zealand, to name a few, and all across the United States.  The Stampin’ Up Noble Deer is the perfect stamp for a card for Kirk.

I began by using the Avery Elle Double Pierced Squares dies to create a square from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  I love this cardstock when using Copic markers because it does not bleed through.  Next I stamped the image with Memento Espresso Truffle ink, however, I stamped off once to lighten the ink.  I used the following Copic Markers to color image.

  • Deer: E33, E35, E37, E41
  • Grass: Y93, Y95
  • Trees: E49, G28, G85
  • Cloud: C1, C2
  • Sky: BG0000, BG 10

I created a top folding A2 cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  I cut some plaid cardstock I had in my stash with the rectangle from WPlus9 Gift Card Layers die and glued it directly to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Next I die cut some craft cardstock with the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and placed the focal image on top to determine where to stamp the sentiment from My Favorite Things Big Birthday Sentiments with Memento Espresso Truffle ink.  To add some interest I took some twine I had in my stash and tied it just above the sentiment and then used a pick to spread the ends.

Next I used some 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to apply the focal image to the sentiment panel, and then I used some fun foam on the back of the craft panel, being sure to leave a channel for the thickness of the twine, and adhered it to the plaid cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Butterfly Magic Birthday Card

Sometimes  it is nice to make a card that only requires a background die to make it beautiful.  This card is made by cutting the Spellbinders Impressibilities Butterfly Magic Die out of Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and gluing it directly to some light turquoise cardstock I had in my stash.  00019-bw

The sentiment is from Avery Elle Cake and Candles and stamped with VersaMark Ink onto a strip of Gina K. Designs 120# Cardstock, covered with Ranger Fine Detail Silver Embossing Powder, and heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool.  A strip of Silver Glitter Cardstock, just wider than sentiment, was added to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  For dimension, 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the sentiment and adhered to the bottom of the card.  To compliment the sentiment, the body of the butterfly was cut with silver glitter cardstock and glued to the butterfly and the card was done.
