Oxide Ink Blended Happy Birthday

Lately I’ve been on a kick of ink blending with the Distress Oxide Inks.  They give such a beautiful, smooth blend.  I decided to keep this card very simple.  I took a rectangle of Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock and put some Post-it Tape on an angle at the bottom third of the rectangle.  I then ink blended Distress Oxide inks Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, and Broken China at the bottom.  I used the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle to die cut the panel.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.

For the sentiment I ink blended a scrap of white cardstock with the same inks and die cut it with the Mama Elephant Birthday Script Die.  I adhered it directly to the card base on the angle of the ink blending with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  I used the Distress Oxide Salty Ocean to stamp the word “HAPPY” from Lawn Fawn’s Happy Happy Happy stamp set.  Sequins from Neat & Tangled Starry Night and Doodlebug Designs Swimming Pool where scatter around the sentiment with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

A top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image rectangle was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Balloon Bouquet Hooray It’s Your Birthday

I have seen a card made by Laura Bassen where she used watercolor paper to add color behind each of the balloons in the Simon Says Stamp Balloon Bouquet.  I have recreated that card in the past.  This time I wanted to try using Oxide Inks and sponge daubers to add color to the balloons.

I cut a rectangle of Neena Solar White 80# White Cardstock using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  I then die cut the balloons from the same cardstock four times and adhered them together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive Spray.  I then would hold the balloon bouquet over the die cut rectangle to determine where to add the ink.

I used the same ink and daubers on a scrap of white cardstock to create a rainbow strip of color that I then used to die cut the Mama elephant Hooray Script Die from.  I cut an additional three word dies from white cardstock and adhered them together with the spray adhesive.  The secondary sentiment from Gina K. Designs Birthday Greetings was stamped on a scrap of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam Sheet was cut 1/8” smaller than the stitched rectangle and adhered to the back.  The balloon bouquet and the sentiment cutout were adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the secondary sentiment was adhered using 3M ½” Foam Tape.  The focal image was then adhered to the card front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Silhouette Stacked Birthday Cake

This wonky birthday cake image is the Silhouette Miss Kate Cuttables Birthday Cake.  I have a lot of stamps and dies, but I had forgotten what great cards can be made using the Silhouette.

I cut the image using scraps of Brown, Green, Orange, and Red Textured Cardstock for the cake, platter base, and candle bases.  Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was used for the candle flames and decorative lines, along with the platter.

Copic Markers were used to add shading to the cake image, as well as making the inner flame pieces a darker gold color.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Circle die cut once from the gold mirror cardstock and two more times from yellow cardstock.  It was cut in half to create an arch rather than a circle.  The layers were adhered together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive.

The largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle was used to die cut a piece of My Minds Eye 6 x 6 Wood Designer Paper.  A piece of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the cake and adhered to the woodgrain paper.  The sentiment was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

Five Candle Cutout Happy Birthday

I found a Silhouette image from Sarah Bailey entitled Candles and thought it could make a great masculine card.  Of course most the cards I make for men can also be used for female cards as well.

I cut the base of the candles and the flames from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  The patterned fronts of the candles were cut from scraps of cardstock.  They were then adhered together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  For the center of the flames Copic Markers YR24 and YR18 were applied to make them look deeper and brighter in hue.  3M ½” foam tape was added to the back of each candle to add dimension.

To give the candles something to stand on I used the Lawn Fawn’s Happy Happy Happy die and partially cut it so that I could create a small strip of gold cardstock at the top.  Thin strips of 3M ½” Foam Tape were added to the back so that it would have the same dimension as the candles.

A side folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  Before adhering the sentiment die, the secondary sentiment from Hero Arts Birthday Messages was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The backing paper was removed from the foam tape and sentiment and candles were adhered to the card front and the card was done.

Silhouette Paper Piecing Birthday Cake

This is another masculine birthday card made with a Silhouette image and paper piecing of different cardstock from the Papermania Capsule Collection – Spots & Stripes Jewel 6 x 6 Paper Pack and scraps of solid color cardstock.

The frosting cutouts were adhered to the cake layer using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  3M Foam Tape was then added to the back of the cake to add dimension and interest to the card.  The confetti was scattered around the focal image and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  To change the background color of the patterned paper Memento Toffee Crunch Ink was blended to change it to a cream color.

The sentiment was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa Ink using the MISTI to the bottom of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Ivory Cardstock.  To separate the sentiment from the focal image the ScorBuddy was used to add three score lines.

Platinum Stickles was added to the stars at the top of the candles and Clear Wink of Stella was added to all the stars and the card was done.

Silhouette Birthday Cupcake

I think simple birthday images made great masculine birthday cards.  I decided to pull out some of my patterned paper and use my Silhouette to cut some birthday images.  This card is made using Papermania Capsule Collection 6 x 6 Cardstock for the patterned paper and Recollections Essentials 6 x 6 Cardstock for the accents.  The Silhouette images use are PPBN Designs Delicious Cupcake and Miss Kate Cutables Birthday Cake for the confetti.

A rectangle of Recollections Essential Red Cardstock was die cut using My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangles.  The background of the patterned paper was white and I decided to use some Memento Toffee Crunch to ink blend the paper so that it was a cream color instead.  The edges of the red rectangle were also ink blended with the same ink.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the frosting and everything else was adhered to the red rectangle with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn Party Animals and was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black using the MISTI. Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents was used for the dots on the frosting and the platter.

Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Happy Birthday Bouquet

When I am stamping floral images I usually have leftover that I keep in a little box under my desk.  My granddaughter was over and using some of them and I decided to pull some of them out and use them as well.  It has a lot of different flowers from Simon Says Stamp Look for the Miracles, Gina K. Designs Peony wishes, and WPlus9 Freehand Florals.  I used some Copic Markers (listed below) to add shading and some Doodlebug Sprinkles for the center of the larger flowers and to scatter around the focal image.

I die cut a rectangle using the Winnie and Walter Audrey Essentials Die.  I love the scalloped edge that it gives.  To add focal interest I ran it through the Big Shot with a new Cuttlebug Embossing Folder entitled Charles.  I think the dotted chevron is very pretty.

I arranged the flowers the way I liked them and pulled out some Press and Seal to hold them all together while I added Tombo Mono Multi Glue to the back.  This is such an effective way to get your flower arrangement in place.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the blue flower for a little dimension.

The sentiment is from Gina K. Designs Peony Wishes and was stamped on Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.  The ends were cut into fishtails and 3M ½” Foam Tape was cut in half and applied to the back.

A side folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut just smaller than the scalloped rectangle and then adhered to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Golfer Make a Wish Birthday

I have a friend Milt who turned 84 in August.  He is a very active man, golfing and skiing, and impressing me with what he is capable of doing in his eighties.  I searched for golfing image for his card and found this one from Sparkle N Sprinkler entitled Golf.  I printed it with a laser printer on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock and then colored it with Copic Markers: B0000, B000, B00 (Sky); B99, B97, B34 Cap/ Shorts; E13, E25 (Belt); C5, C3 (Club); G02, G17, G19 (Shirt); YG63, YG61, G82 (Grass); C0, C1, B99, B97, B34 (Shoes).  I then die cut the image with a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle and added some Darice Sticky Back Foam to the back.

The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Make a Wish stamp set.  It was stamped in the lower left with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  I wanted to add some focal interest and thought that the Cuttlebug Polka Dot Embossing Folder would look like a lot of little golf balls on the background of the card.  I ran the card front directly through the Big Shot and then adhered the focal image with Sookwang Be Creative Tape, since the surface was rough, and the card was done.

Slam Dunk Birthday

My grandson Joshua turned 16 the end of August.  He loved basketball, and is a talented player.  I searched for some time to find a good basketball image for his card and finally ran across this digital stamp from Sparkle N Sprinkle called simply “Basketball.”

I imported the image in to Microsoft Word and added some WordArt for the sentiment.  It was then printed on Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock on a laser printer.  This ensures the image doesn’t bleed when coloring with Copic Markers.  I die cut the image using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.

His school colors are red and black so that is the colors used.  (E99, E47, YR24 (Ball); E11, E00, E000 (Skin); E30, E33 (Hair); R24, R27, R29 (Uniform); C5, C7, C9 (Socks and Ground); B0000 (Shadow).  Unfortunately I made an error in coloring and decided to print and color the image again and fussy cut it out, placing it over the original image with 3M ½” foam tape.  It was one of those times that a mistake makes a better card.  The added dimension made the image pop.

To pull a little more black into the design a rectangle of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger than the stitched rectangle and adhered to the back of the focal image with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.  Next a rectangle of Darice Sticky Back Foam was die cut and adhered to the back of the panel.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Happy Birthday Bayley

This is another digital image from La-La Land Crafts entitled Darling Marci.  This is also a sitting image and so I searched for a digital chair stamp and finally found one I liked from WinkWinkInk entitled Comfy Chair.

Both images were imported into my Silhouette Cameo Software and then print and cut on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with my laser printer.  (It is important to use a laser printer when you want to Copic color an image.  If it were printed with a LaserJet the image would smear when coloring.)

Copic Markers used are:   RV29, RV14, RV13 (Chair); RV13, RV11, RV10 (Dress); E49, E59, E35 (Hair); R20, R21 (Lips and Cheeks); E13, E21, E00 (Skin); C8, C6 (Polka Dots on Chair); C9, C8, C7 (Chair Feet); C5, C4, C3 (Ribbon, Ruffle, and Shoes).  I added polka dots to the chair for added interest.

The girl image was adhered to the chair using Ranger Multi Medium Matte glue and then 3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back.  They were then placed on a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock to determine where to stamp the sentiment from Hero Arts Yummy Treats, stamped with Hero Arts Soft Granite Ink.

The card front was run through the Big Shot with WeR Memory Keepers Dotted Embossing Folder to add interest and dimension to the front of the card.  The backing was removed from the foam tape and the focal image was adhered to the card front.  As a final detail a Sakura GellyRoll Metallic Silver pen was used to trace the sentiment and the card was done.
