Sweet Blossom Happy Birthday Card

This card was prepared for a young woman at church name Lizzie, whose favorite color is Teal/Aqua and has lovely, long, blond hair.  I thought the Whimsy Stamps Sweet Blossom image would make a perfect birthday card.

The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock and colored with Copic Markers: BG11, BG13, BG14; BG72, BG75, BG18; BG91, BG93, BG95; E25, E29; E31, E33, E34; E50, E53, E55, E35; E00, E11, E51, R20; G99, G46; BG000, BG0000.

Once the coloring was done the sentiment from Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings was stamped below with Altenew Ocean Waves and Dusk inks.  The image was then cut with the second largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Darice Sticky Backed Fun Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and added to the back.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  To accent the aqua color a rectangle of patterned paper from Perfect Prints Forever in Time 6” x 6” Paper Pack was cut with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  A darker teal color cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and both rectangles were adhered together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The focal image was then adhered to the cardbase.  Silver Stickles was added to the center of the flowers and the card was done.

Hopeful Flowers Springtime Birthday Card

I like to take a smaller flower image from a stamp and change the look by stamping it multiple times.  This image is from the Gina K. Designs Hopeful Flowers stamp set and was stamped five times with differing heights to fill the entire front of a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.  The image was colored with Derwent Inktense Pencils in springtime colors. I really like the way it turned out.

I began by stamping the image with Memento Rich Cocoa Ink and then colored everything with the Inktense Pencils listed below.  I only purchased the 36 count pencil set, which doesn’t have any pink, but the more I use these pencils the more I like the results and so I purchased the 72 count pencil set today and well try and sell my slightly used 36 count set on eBay.  Once the coloring was complete I ink blended the card with Distress Tumbled Glass at the top and Mowed Lawn at the bottom.

I haven’t been able to find Gamsol for blending these pencils, but I did find some Masterpiece Odorless Mineral Spirits at Hobby Lobby and they seem to work well.  I saw Amy Rysavy take a small jar and put a piece of sponge in the bottom and then filled it with the Gamsol so that it was easily accessible for dipping and wetting the blending stumps.

Once the coloring and blending were completed I used the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle and die cut the image. I wanted to enhance the colored spring flowers panel with a slight larger green rectangle.  I searched my drawer of green cardstock scraps and found a green chevron glitter cardstock from Paper Studio Eat Cake which was the perfect color and added the right touch.  A rectangle was cut 3/16″ larger and the focal image was adhered using Sookwang Scor-Tape Adhesive Tape.  Darice Sticky Backed Fun Foam was also added with the same adhesive tape.  An A2 side folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and then the focal image was added by removing the protective paper on the back of the fun foam.

Using the same green paper the word happy was cut using the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy dies for the sentiment.  It was then cut again out of sticky backed fun foam and then adhered together for added dimension. Using a scrap of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock the secondary sentiment was stamped using VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail White Embossing Powder. Both sentiments were adhered to the card front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue. As a finishing touch Triveni Crafts Multi Color Rhinestones were scattered and adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Farm Life Masculine Birthday Card

This is another masculine birthday card using a Gina K. Designs stamp set. I like the final outcome, but as you will see with the second image below I originally had completed the card without any coloring.  I had tried to color it with Copic Markers but felt it detracted from the rustic feel of the image and so it was stamped a second time.  Later in the day it was still sitting on my desk when I was working on another card that I colored with Derwent Inktense Colored Pencils.  Since I felt the design was lacking something to make it pop, and colored pencils give a grainier look, I thought I would give them a try with this card and felt it made all the difference.

I stamped the image on a quarter of an 8 1/2 x 11 80# Ivory Cardstock from Gina K. Designs with a combination of Memento Rich Cocoa and Deseret Sand Ink.  The sentiment is from the Papertrey Ink Stylish Sentiments: Birthday stamp set and was stamped with both of the inks as well.  The focal image panel was die cut with the second largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  I had planned to put the image on some kraft cardstock, but the browns did not blend well with one another and so I ink blended both Rich Cocoa and Deseret Sand on the Gina K. Designs 120# Kraft Cardstock, but something was still missing, so I die cut the kraft cardstock with another rectangle using the largest rectangle for the die set and ink blended the edges.  I will say that Memento Ink does not ink blend well and will keep that in mind for future cards.  I decided to use a cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Dark Chocolate Cardstock and liked the way all of the elements looked together. The focal image was adhered to the kraft cardstock with Sookwang Be Creative Adhesive Tape and then Darice Sticky Backed Fun Foam was added to the back of the kraft rectangle, which was then adhered to the dark chocolate cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done, until I added color using the Derwent Inktense Pencils later in the day.

Stampendous Daisy Thanks Make a Wish Birthday Card with Inktense Pencils

I have a friend who told me her favorite color was brown.  I really struggled on what to do for a brown birthday card that would still be pretty.  Eventually I settled on white embossing an image on craft and then coloring it with Inktense Pencils. I made a couple of cards and they turned out much nicer than I anticipated.

For the first card I stamped the daisies from Stampendous Daisy Thanks with VersaMark Ink onto Gina K. Designs 120# Craft Cardstock and heat embossed them with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder.  Then I colored them with Derwent Inktense Pencils: 2000 Bark, 2300 Antique White, 0600 Shiraz, 1720 Tan, 2020 India Ink.

The sentiment is from Avery Elle Cupcakes and was also heat embossed with the same embossing powder in the lower right of the card.

The focal image panel was cut with Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Another rectangle was cut slightly larger from Gina K. Designs 120# Chocolate Brown Cardstock with rectangle for Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Frames. However, I decided to use my paper cutter to cut a white rectangle slightly smaller than the brown rectangle.  All were adhered together with Tombo Mono Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive.  The focal image was then glued to an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Craft Cardstock and the card was done.

The second card was created with the same process using Gina K. Designs Hopeful Flowers stamp set and the butterfly from Stampedous Daisy Thanks.  The images were stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder and colored with Derwent Inktense Pencils 2000 Bark, 2300 Antique White, 1720 Tan, and 2020 India Ink.

For this card the sentiment was stamped in the upper left of the card and Inktense Pencil 2000 Bark was used to trace around the sentiment to make it pop.

The focal image panel was cut using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles and another rectangle was cut from Gina K. Designs Chocolate Brown Cardstock.  Both were adhered together using Tombo Mono Stamp Runner Dot Adhesive and then a rectangle of Darice Sticky Back Fun Foam was die cut and adhered to the back of the brown rectangle.   An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Craft Cardstock and the focal image rectangles were adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Altenew Lacy Scrolls Sympathy

I bought some Derwent Inktense Pencils several years ago and have never used them.  This month my challenge has been to use stamps and product that I have not yet used.  I watched a video recently from Jennifer McQuire where she used colored pencils to add depth and dimension to a stamped image and thought I would give it a try.  I also used the Altenew Lacy Scrolls for the first time and think they turned out beautiful.

First I stamped the flowers and leaves on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock using the Altenew Rouge and Forest Glade Inks and then cut them out using the matching dies.

Next I selected Derwent Inktense 36: 0200 Sun Yellow, 1530 Felt Green, 0300 Tangerine, 2300 Antique White to add the highlights and shadows to the images.  In her video Jennifer used an eraser to smooth out the edges of the pencil coloring.  I used the Tombo Mono Zero Elastomer Eraser.  It has a very small tip and yet is a very good eraser.  At first I wasn’t sure I liked the effect.  It is not as smooth as the transition and blending you get with Copic Markers, but over time it really grew on me and I liked it more and more.

Once I was done coloring I die cut some Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and arranged the flowers and leaves the way I wanted them to determine placement of the sentiment.  Since I wanted this to be a sympathy card I wanted a softer feel and so the sentiment from Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings was stamped with Altenew Silver Stone Ink.  All the flowers and leaves were then adhered to the rectangle with Tombo Mono Multi Glue, except the lowest flower, it was adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape for a little dimension.

An A2 Top Folding Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  A scattering of Simon Says Stamp Moonshine Rhinestones were added with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was complete.
