Concord & 9th Hello Lovely Birthday Card for Diane

I am the oldest of five girls in my family.  I also have two brothers, so I come from a wonderful, large, happy family.  My sister Diane’s birthday is on March 13 and her favorite colors are purple, blue, and hot pink.  I knew she would love a card made from Concord & 9th’s Hello Lovely stamp set and it turned out beautifully.

I began by stamping the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock.  The Copic colors used are listed below. I used a light blue to outline the image and I think it really makes it pop. Once the coloring was complete I ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.

For the sentiment I used Technique Tuesday’s Say it Happy die, which also includes a shadow for the word die.  I cut the shadow from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and the “happy” from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  The two were adhered together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  I placed the word die on the focal image to determine placement of the secondary sentiment, which is from Hero Arts Happy stamp set and was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

A top folding A2 Cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was added to the back of the focal panel, which was glued to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.   Sequins were added from Pretty Pink Posh Sugarplum Mix and Doodlebug Lilac Sequins.  A little sparkle and shine was added with Clear Wink of Stella and the card was done.

CTD432: Hero Arts Flowers for You

I am always intimated about participating in My Favorite Things Color Throwdown Challenges, but the card below turned out so pretty that I decided to give it a try.

If you are like me, you see these amazing videos of new product and you just have to have it and then I don’t use it right away.  I gave myself a challenge to use all of my floral stamps that I have not yet used.  One of them was Hero Arts Flowers for You.  This is a flower layering stamp set and I love the Altenew inks for this process because they are made to help you be successful in picking three colors that go well together.

I stamped the flowers on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with the ink colors listed below and then fussy cut them with scissors.  I then cut a panel from the same cardstock with Lawn  Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot with the Sizzix Dotted Lattice Embossing Folder.

The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings and I forgot to stamp it prior to embossing the panel, but with the MISTI I was able to get a clean image by stamping a couple of times.

I arranged the flowers on the lower left corner of the panel and took a picture with my cell phone so that I could adhere them in the same pattern.  I used Tombo Mono Multi Glue for all of them except the large blue and red flowers, which were adhered using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  For added interest I used Stickles Tidings to create the flower centers and I love the sparkle.

The embossed panel was adhered to a top folding A2 Cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Products Used:

  • Hero Arts Flowers for You

Hero Arts Color Layering Gold Fish Birthday Wishes

My son-in-law Troy is an avid fish lover.  He has a huge salt water aquarium with beautiful fish and anemones. Every year for his birthday we give him a gift card that he uses to add something beautiful to his tank, so I try to make his birthday cards with a fish and water theme. This year I used Hero Arts Color Layering Gold Fish and I liked the end product.

I began by making a frame with My  Favorite Things Pierced Rectangle Frames die and then cutting a piece of 80# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock just smaller to create a shaker card.  I used Ranger’s mini ink blending tools to ink blend  a blue background with Distress Ink Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, and Broken China.  I ink blended the frame using the Distress Inks.  The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted It’s Your Birthday and was stamped a couple of times with Salty Ocean.  I added a rectangle of Office Depot Binding Acetate Sheet cut 1/8″ smaller than the frame with 1/8″ Scor Tape.  Next a double layer of 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape, cut in half to be narrow enough not to show, was added behind the frame. Mikuki Seed Beads in Honey Butter and Gold was sprinkled into the frame for sand and the ink blended panel and frame were adhered together.

The seaweed was ink blended with Distress Inks Crushed Olive and Peeled Paint and die cut with the matching dies.  Originally I planned to put these inside the shaker, but I completely forgot and so they were applied to the front of the acetate panel with Scor Tape.

The gold fish were stamped with Hero Hues Pastel Peach, Butter Bar, and Wet Cement and die cut with the matching dies.  The two smaller fish were adhered to the front of the shaker with Score Tape and the largest with given added dimension with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

The shaker panel was adhered to a side folded A2 cardbase made from 120# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock and the card was done.

Penny Black About Town Birthday

I love the Penny Black little people images.  They make perfect cards for the young women at church.  This one was made for a young girl who is turning sixteen and will soon have her driver’s license, how appropriate is that.

I began by stamping Penny Black’s About Town on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, since I planned to color it with her favorite colors of burgundy and turquoise.  The colors used are listed below.  I grounded the car with a hill of dark grey (Copic C8, C7, C6).

From my stash of cardstock I found BoBunny’s Double Dot Ocean Stripe cardstock and cut it with the Sizzix Big Shot using WPlus 9 Gift Card Layers Rectangle, which is the same size as an A2 card front.  Next I die cut the image using the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle. When I  placed it on the striped background it needed a little something more and so I cut a rectangle from dark teal cardstock from my stash 1/8″ larger than the focal image, and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

I placed the focal image on the card front to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment, which is from Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Happy.  I used VersaMark Ink and then covered it with Ranger Detailed Silver Embossing Powder, heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool. Next Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was added to the back of the focal image and adhered to the card front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The word happy was cut using the die from Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Happy out of Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock and then cut three more times from scrap white cardstock.  The word cutouts were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond spray adhesive.  The word was adhered to the bottom of the focal image with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Penny Black Swinging Valentine’s Day Card

I don’t know what it is about the cute girl and boy images from Penny Black but I really like them.  The Swinging stamp set was perfect for a Valentine’s Day card for Michael.  I am so grateful I get to sit beside this wonderful man who makes every day better in my life.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock.  Since there isn’t a matching die I decided to try the Silhouette Cameo PixScan Mat to cutout the image and it worked perfectly. I colored the image with the following Copic Markers: R29, R27, R24; E55, E59, E49; E50, E53, E35; E00, E01, E11; B26, B24, B23; B32, B34, B95; G24, G99; E55, E57, E59 (wood), B000, B0000.

I wanted a sky background behind the image so I used some Canson Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper and die cut it using the Avery Elle Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.   I applied Distress ink onto a smooth surface and using the wet on wet method dropped the following colors; Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Faded Blue Jeans, to create the sky.

I die cut Hero Arts Love from red cardstock and coated it with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder and added Recollection Clear Embossing Powder.  It did this several times.  You can create a similar look using Glossy Accents, but I prefer the smooth look of multi layers of embossing powder.

I placed both the focal image and sentiment die on the sky background to determine placement for the secondary sentiment.  I prepped the area with an anti static pad and stamped the sentiment from Avery Elle Simply Said: Love set with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder and added Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder, heat setting it with the Marvy Embossing Tool.

It was now time to assemble the card.  To add a splash of color and help the focal image panel stand out I die cut a rectangle of red cardstock with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes rectangle.  I glued it to the watercolored background with the strong adhesive from the 3M ATG gun.  Both were glued to a top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The focal image was added to the watercolor panel using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  Four more “love” dies were cut with heavy weight white cardstock. Since the top of the “l” would rest on the focal image the top of the letter was removed with scissors to ensure it would lay flat on the panel. These were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and applied to the watercolor panel with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Glossy Accents were applied to the small hearts in the image and the card was done.

MFT Color Challenge 61: Love You

I’ve been wanting to participate in My Favorite Things Color Challenges for some time.  It always seems like I’m on a deadline for other cards I need to make, I’m out of town, or various other reasons why I don’t do it.  (Couldn’t be that it intimidates me have my work on display.)

This week’s challenge used coral, red persimmon, blue, and gray.  Since it is getting close to Valentine’s Day I decided to use the Heart of Heart die from Impression Obsession and fill the hearts will all the colors of the challenge.

I used scrap paper that I have in my stash and cut a circle from gray and blue cardstock using the third largest My Favorite Things Pierced Circle STAX.  I then placed the Heart of Heart die in the center of the gray circle and once it was cut I adhered it to the blue circle cut earlier for a backing to adhered all the colored hearts to.  I cut the Heart of Heart die from all the colors in the challenge and began filling in the heart openings, gluing them in place with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

For the card background I used My Favorite Things Chevron Coverup and cut it from blue cardstock.  I cut it again from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and adhered it to the blue cardstock for added dimension.  I ink blended the edges with Distress Peacock Feathers ink and adhered it to a side folded cardbase made from 120# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.

To adhere the focal image to the card I cut a circle from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam just smaller than colorful heart circle and glued it to the front of the card using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

For the sentiment I cut Hero Arts Love and Heart die from red cardstock six times.  Since the top of the “L” was going to lay on top of the focal image I cut off the loop so that it would lay flat on the circle.  The word “you” from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold, and Party stamp set was stamped with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink and then heat set with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.  The word was cut into a narrow banner and adhered to the card front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

My Favorite Things Morocco Background with Flowers and Leaf Trio Birthday

I love a pretty background die.  This card was made using My Favorite Things Modern Morocco, which was die cut out of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock three times and adhered together using Elmer’s Adhesive Spray to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The white on white makes a clean and simple, yet elegant card.

The flowers were die cut out of We R Memory Keepers Purple Polka Dot Vellum using several My Favorite Things flower dies (Flowers and Leaf Trio, Gerbera Daisy, and Plentiful Petals) and adhered with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The pearl centers are from my stash of embellishments.  The flourish was cut from Grafix 30# Green Leaf Vellum using My Favorite Things Fancy Flourish die.

Hero Arts Tiny Flags Background Masculine Birthday

The graphic element of Hero Arts Tiny Flags creates a great masculine birthday card.  Most men I know like the color blue and so the distress blending of blues and greens it a visually pleasing design.

A panel of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was cut with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Before stamping the Hero Arts Tiny Flags Background stamp with VersaMark ink an anti-static pad was used to eliminate any oils from the surface to ensure the Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder would only stick where wanted.

Distress ink was applied using the Ranger Mini Embossing Tool.  Colors used are: Twisted Citron, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers.  Blue Offray Grosgrain Ribbon was was tied around the panel and tied in a knot, then the panel was glued to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

For the focal image the Just Right Spellbinders Nested Medallion Labels was used to cut some Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock. Inkadinkadoo’s Happy Birthday was stamped on the label with VersaMark Ink and sprinkled with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder and heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool.  “Happy Birthday” was added from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold, and Party stamp.

The label was adhered to the ink blended panel using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape. Tiny blue confetti stars were added to the label with Multi Matte Medium and the card was done.

Masculine Birthday with Ink Blending

Clean and simple graphics cards are excellent for masculine cards.  This card uses Hero Arts Pinstripes Background with Distress Ink blending.

A panel of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was cut with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  After preparing the panel with a anti-static tool the panel was stamped with Hero Arts Pinstripes Background stamp and VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.

Using a Ranger Mini Ink Blending Tool to add a rainbow hue with the following Distress Ink: Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet, Barn Door.

A panel of scrap blue cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger than the embossed panel and glued to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was added to back of the panel and adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Scrap green, red, and blue cardstock was ink blended in red, green, and blue distress ink and then die cut with Lawn Fawn Party Balloons.  Next sentiments were embossed with Gina K. Power Poppy French Lilac Hello

Some of the sweetest smelling flowers of spring are lilacs.  I really love this image from Power Poppy called French Lilacs.  It was printed and cut using the Silhouette Cameo and then colored with Copic Markers (colors listed below).

When creating a clean and simple white card I like to add dimension by adding a panel that has been dry embossed.  This card uses the Darice Basketweave Embossing Folder.  First the panel was cut using the largest rectangle from Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and embossing it with the folder.

A panel of mirror gold cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger than the panel and both were adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then adhered directly to a top folding A2 Card made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The focal image was adhered to the front of the panel using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

The sentiment was cut from mirror gold cardstock using Hero Arts Hello Stamp and Cut.  When adding dimension to a die cut sentiment you can either cut several words and glue them together, or in this case I die cut Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and then glued to the panel using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.
