Mums Bouquet Happy Birthday

This is another card made by stamping an image to a Silhouette Cameo outline of a WPlus9 Beautiful Bouquet image.  This time I used the Mums stamp set.  Since I was going to use Copic Markers to color the image it was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. 00278w A top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Next a yellow frame was cut using the Pretty Pink Posh Scalloped Rectangle Die.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was cut in thirds and adhered to the back of the frame to add dimension.  When I went to apply the frame to the cardbase I found that this frame leaves are larger top and bottom border to an A2 cardbase.  I like to have my cards evenly spaced and so 1/4″ was cut from the length of the front and back of the card so that the overall size was 4 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ scored at 5 1/4″.

The sentiment was stamped with Hero Hues Black ink and is from Hero Arts Yummy Treats stamp set.  Foam tape was added to the back of the flower image and applied to the inside of the frame and the card was done.

Sending Prayers

This card was inspired one I had seen on the Clearly Besotted web site for their Happy Everything stamp, however, when I went to get the url to reference it, it was no longer there.  I assume the stamp has been retired since it was no longer available for purchase.  I am going ahead with posting it because a similar image is available in their Beautiful Friend stamp set.

00175

I stamped the image on Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Ink and embossed it with Recollections Clear embossing powder.  I heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool and colored the image with the following Distress Inks: Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive, Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Fossilized Amber.

I sprayed some Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with Water prior to embossing it with the Darice Wood Embossing Folder.  This ensures that the paper will not crack and tear when embossed.  I set it aside to dry.

Pretty Patterned Paper Cards

Every two months we have an evening meeting for the women in our church.  This month our theme is “Scatter Sunshine.”  One of the activities we will be doing is making handmade cards that can be given to someone we know who needs a pick-me-up.  Since there are a lot of the women who have never made a handmade card we wanted to be sure some of the cards would be less intimidating, so we have several samples made with patterned paper, stamping a sentiment, and adding a little embellishment.

I thought it would be fun to share some pretty cards that can be made with pattern papers we have in our personal stash of supplies.

00177b

For this card the flower and leaves were stamped in VersaMark ink from Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Floral Greetings and embossed with Ranger Gold Embossing Powder.  A finger sponge dauber was used to color the center of the flower with Distress Spun Sugar and the leaves with Distress Peeled Paint.  For the Martha Steward Butterfly Punch and the Simon Says Stamp Faith die a piece of scrap paper was covered with VersaMark Ink and Ranger Gold Embossing Powder before die cutting/punching.  This way they perfectly match the flower and leaves. The word “with” is from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold and Comfort.

00178a

This paper had the same loopy flowers as Simon Says Stamp Heart of Roses die.  I used some red cardstock from my stash to die cut the heart, along with Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Love.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables and then backed with some red card stock, which was cut 1/8″ larger.  This added a pop of color to the panel and tied in the heart and sentiment.  The “sending you” sentiment was stamped with Hero Hues Black from the same stamp set.  The patterned paper panel was adhered to the card base with some Fun Foam to add dimension.

00183

For this card red flowers were die cut from Paper Smooches Pocket Wise die set.  The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Look for the Miracles stamp set and was stamped with VersaMark Ink and embossed with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder.  The center of the flowers are Doodlebug Designs Enamel Sprinkles.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with Simon Says Stamp Bundles of Stitched Shapes and then attached to a card base with Fun Foam to add some dimension.

00184

This card only has some Doodlebug Designs Enamel Sprinkles for the center of the flowers and a sentiment stamped in Hero Hues Black ink from Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Floral Greetings.  The paper has a rough surface, so I used the MISTI so the sentiment could be stamped several times.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with Simon Says Stamp Bundles of Stitched Shapes and then attached to a card base with Fun Foam to add some dimension.

Hope you have fun using some of your pretty patterned paper lying around your craft room.

Bright and Colorful Background Stamping

I’ve done this card before but wanted to see how it would blend with pinks and blues.  I love the combination.

00173I stamped Hero Arts Flower Wallpaper Background Stamp on Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Ink.  I covered the stamped image with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder and heat set it with the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

Using Tsukineko Sponge Daubers I applied the following Distress Inks: Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Picked Raspberrry, Spun Sugar, Mowed Lawn, and Shaded Lilac

Once the Distress ink was applied I generously misted it with water to let the colors blend and set it aside to dry.  Afterwards I ran it through the Big Shot with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundled of Stitched Shapes.

The stamped the sentiment from C. C. Designs Amy R. Elegant Greetings Stamp on a strip of WorldWin Papers Vellum in VersaMark Ink, prepping the vellum with an Embossing Buddy to ensure a crisp clean image.  I then heat embossed it with Ranger Silver Embossing Powder with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

I wrapped the vellum around the background image a little to the right so that I could add some rhinestone daisies that I’ve had in my stash forever, so I don’t know the manufacturer.  To keep it in place I simply used Scotch Tape on the back of the panel.

I cut a piece of white craft foam 1/4″ smaller than the panel and adhered it to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  I then used the same glue to adhere the panel to a top folding Gina K. Designs 120# White Card Base cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″ and the card was done.

You’re In My Prayers

We all need sympathy cards at times and I like those that are simple and elegant.

00168

The flowers in Altenew’s Beautiful Day Stamp are beautiful.  I stamped the image with VersaMark Ink on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and embossed it with Ranger’s Platinum Embossing Powder.  Be sure to prep the surface with an embossing buddy tool to ensure the powder only clings to the VersaMark ink.  To color the image I used Winsor & Newton Winsor Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Olive Green, keeping the colors light by diluting them with a lot of water.

Once the watercolor was completely dry I ran it through my Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  I cut a piece of Paper Accents Mirror Gold Paper slightly larger, which added a lovely accent to the edges of the focal piece and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

I then stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Prayers with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder.

All was adhered it to a cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and the card was done.

A Flurry of Hearts

This card was inspired by one I saw a few years ago by Dana Seymour. You can see her card at: http://forum.papertreyink.com/forum/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=76070.

There are times when I want to give my husband or children a card letting them know how much I love them.  I really like how this one turned out. It is clean and simple, yet elegant.

00162

The hearts are from Papertrey Ink Heart Prints and were cut with the matching dies. I stamped them on Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with VersaMark ink, applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder, and heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

The cardbase is also Gina K. Design 120# Ivory Cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and folded at 5 1/2″.  The hearts were scattered on the lefthand side of the card front.  Two were adhered directly to base with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the others were adhered with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to add dimension.

For the sentiment I used a scrap of cardstock and completely covered it with VersaMark ink and applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder twice to give it a smooth finish.  I then cut the word love from Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Love die three times and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue. Before adhering the die cut I stamped the phrase “SENDING YOU” from the same stamp set and then adhered the word below.

  • Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock

  • Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder

  • Tombo Mono Multi Glue
  • 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape
  • Sizzix Big Shot Machine

Happy Happy Birthday to You

The fourth card I made with background stamps was my favorite.  I used Hero Arts Flower Wallpaper stamp on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Stampin Stuff Clear Embossing Powder.

I applied Distress inks with Tsukineko Sponge Daubers. The following inks were used: Picket Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Spun Sugar, Spiced Marmalade, Mowed Lawn, Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass, and Mustard Seed. Using a water bottle a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.  The results were a bright and colorful background.

00153a

Once the background was dry a panel was cut with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle die.  The flowers received a coating of Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.  Using the same die as the front panel a strip of heavy weight white vellum was run through the Big Shot twice so that it measured 1 3/8″ x 5 1/2″. The vellum was prepped with an anti-static bag and the sentiment from C. C. Designs Amy R. Great Birthday Greetings was stamped with VersaMark ink, sprinkled with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder and heat set with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.  The vellum greeting was centered on the bottom of the front panel, wrapped around the edge,s and taped in place with Scotch Tape.

3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the panel, which was then adhered to a cardbase 4 1/4″ x 11″ made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and scored at 5 1/2″ for a  top folding card.

On the inside of the card a sentiment from My Favorite Things Birthday Greetings was stamped with Hero Hues Black ink. A strip of the watercolor background was added to the bottom of the page and the card was done.

What a Wonderful Day

The third card I made with background stamps used Hero Arts Lotus stamp on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Stampin Stuff Clear Embossing Powder.  Distress inks used were Tattered Rose, Spun Sugar, and Picked Raspberry and blended with Ranger’s round blending tool.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

00152

This card was for my nephew Devin’s wedding to his fiancee Mandy. It turned out beautiful and elegant. Once the background was complete I used the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle to cut the watercolor background to a panel 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and adhered it with Be Creative 5/8″ tape to a 4 1/4″ x 11″ cardbase, scored at 5 1/2″.

I wanted the background to take center stage so I cut a label from a leftover piece of Strathmore Watercolor paper with My Favorite Things Well-Worn Greetings die and stamped the sentiment from Penny Black’s Special Wishes with Hero Hues Black ink using my MISTI. 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the label for dimension.

For embellishment I cut My Favorite Things Fancy Flourish die from heavy weight white vellum and curved it along the left edge of the label. Flowers were cut using My Favorite Things Flower and Leaf Trio die from Doodlebug Sprinkles White Vellum. The flowers were layered on top of each other and adhered with Micro Glue Dots. A pearl from Michaels Rhinestone Stickers was added to the center of the flower with Micro Glue Dot. To add dimension to the flower it was adhered to the label with a 3/8″ Zots Medium Glue Dot.

For the inside of the card I printed a quote from Elizabeth Browning; “Love doesn’t make the word go round, Love is what makes the ride worthwhile” on Gina K. Design 80# White Cardstock and cut it with the same My Favorite Things Well-Worn Greetings die as was used on the front. Another flourish and flower were added as well. A strip of the background was added to the bottom of the inside card and to the bottom of the envelope and the card was done.

Make a Wish

The second card I made with background stamps used Hero Arts Tiny Flags. The background was stamped on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and heat embossed with Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder.  This time I wanted a rainbow of colors.  In order to keep the ink to a smaller area I used Tsukineko Sponge Daubers with Ranger Distress inks.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

00155a

Colors used were:

  • Mustard Seed
  • Mowed Lawn
  • Salty Ocean
  • Wilted Violet
  • Seedless Preserves
  • Candied Apple
  • Spiced Marmalade

I cut two balloons from Lawn Fawn Party Balloons and colored them with Salty Ocean and Mowed lawn, the balloon strings were colored with Mustard Seed.  To add some sparkle I used Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts Make a Wish stamp set and was stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder.

The cardbase was Gina K. Designs 120# White cardstock, cut to 4 1/4 x 11? and scored at 5 1/2″.  The Tiny Flags background was cut with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and adhered directly to cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  I really like this rectangle because it leaves a small border around the panel.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was placed on the back of the green balloon and again on the blue ballon, with a double thickness added to the left side  to raise it above the first balloon.

For the inside of the card and the bottom of the envelope a small strip of watercolor Tiny Flags Background with Distress Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean was glued to the bottom with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted It’s Your Birthday to complete the card.

Tomorrow is a New Day

It seems that each time I watch a new instructional video I have to get the latest stamp or die. The hard part is to use them all.  I have been trying to challenge myself to use the stamps that I have purchased. This past week I used some of my background stamps with clear embossing powder and Distress inks to create some simple cards.

The first card I made used Hero Arts Floral Backgound.  I stamped with with VersaMark ink on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, added Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my heat gun.

00154a

Next I took three Distress inks and Ranger Round Blending Tools and blended Pine Needles, Evergreen Bough, and Cracked Pistachio to reveal the beautiful leafy background.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

I wanted the background to take the entire card front so once it was dry I cut it with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles and adhered it to a 4 1/4″ x 11″ Gina K. Designs White Cardbase with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

I wanted to let the background take center stage so I cut a label from Spellbinders Fancy Framed Tags Two and stamped the sentiment from Papertrey Ink A Year of Flowers Marigold.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the tags to add dimension. To add a little glam I added two Queen & Co. pearls.

For the inside of the card I created a small panel of the same background and adhered it to the bottom of the card.  I also stamped the image to the bottom of an envelope and the card was done.
