Sweet Happy Birthday

Who doesn’t like sweet treats on your birthday.  I found this image on Pinterest from Mom Junction and really like the way it turned out.

The image was printed on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with a laser printer.  This ensures that the line do not bleed when colored with Copic Markers.  Colors used are: R89, R59, R37; RV14, RV13, RV11, RV10; R39, R37, R35; R46, R29, R24; YR07, YR04, YR00; Y35, Y32, R22, R21, R20; BG15, BG13, BG11; BG18, BG72, 0; YG67, YG17, YG03, YG01; BV17, BV13, BV11; V09, V06, V04, V01; Y26, Y23, Y21; YR23, Y19; YR24, YR23, YR21; YR18, YR16, YR15, YR14, YR12, G99, G94, G24; Y08, Y06, Y04, Y02.

When coloring was complete the image was cut using the Silhouette Cameo with the PIXScan Mat.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back by tracing the image with pencil and fussy cutting with scissors.

To compliment the colors used in the focal image a rectangle of Lawn Fawn Really Rainbow cardstock was cut to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ and adhered to the front of an A2 side folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A rectangle of white cardstock was cut using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle and adhered to the patterned paper using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.

The focal image was place on the white rectangle to determine where to place the sentiment.  One of the “happy” words from Lawn Fawns Happy Happy Happy stamp and die from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock and adhered in the upper right of the rectangle.  The secondary sentiment was stamped with Distress Oxide Candied Apple Ink.  The focal image was then adhered to the rectangle with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

For embellishment and enhance the sweet treat images Nuvo Crystal Drops in Carnation Pink, Red Berry, Dandelion Yellow, Ripened Pumpkin, Crushed Grape, Caribbean Ocean were added strategically.

Hooray! It’s Your Birthday

This is another image from Art Impressions that makes a great masculine card.  I used it this time for a birthday card, but I’ve used it for an invitation for a backyard barbecue that was really cute as well.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto some Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and colored it with Copic Markers (E19, E08, E07; YG97, YG95, YG93; E35, E33, E31; E49, E47; W9, W7, W5; C2, C1, C0).

To create the scene I die cut two rectangles using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle, once for the sky background, and another to create the grass, which was created using a Lawn Fawn Simple Stitched Hillside Border.  Fluffy clouds were cut using Avery Elle’s Pierced Clouds dies.

The sky rectangle was ink blended using Distress Inks Tumbled Glass and Broken China using a Ranger Mini Blending Tool.  The grass was ink blended with Distress Inks Mowed Lawn and Peeled Paint.  The two were adhered together using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  To add more interest, little tufts of grass were added with Copic Markers.

The sentiment was stamped with VersaMark Ink onto the grass and heat embossed using Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  Before doing this ensure that the ink has completely dried so the embossing powder only sticks to the sentiment.

The focal image was die cut using the PIXScan Mat and the Silhouette Cameo.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added by tracing around the image with a pencil and fussy cutting it with scissors.  The clouds were adhered to the sky portion of the rectangle, one with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and the other directly to the rectangle with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  The focal image was adhered using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

Let’s Par-Tee

I have some friend who are real golf enthusiast.  When I saw the Art Impressions Par-Tee Golfers stamp set I knew it would make great birthday cards.  For this card I used the gentleman golfer in his little golf cart.  It turned out great!

I stamped the image Memento London Fog Ink onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock and colored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers 034 Dull Blue, 030 Blue, 036 Light Blue, 031 Cobalt Blue, 081 Light Violet, 080 Violet, 071 Flesh, 064 Oatmeal, 028 Light Pink, 091 Light Gray, 092 Blue Gray, 096 Mid Gray, 090 Gray, 010 Black.

Once the image was dry I cut around it using the PIXScan Mat and the Silhouette Cameo.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back by tracing around the image with a pencil and fussy cutting the foam with a scissor.

Two Rectangles were cut from some more Bristol Smooth Cardstock and die cut using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  The first rectangle was blended with Distress Tumbled Glass Ink to create the sky for the scene.  The second rectangle was cut again using a Lawn Fawn Simple Stitched Hillside Border die and then ink blended with Distress Mowed Lawn.  The two were adhered together using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The golfer was placed on the rectangle to determine where to stamp the sentiment from the same stamp set.  Distress Oxide Blueprint Sketch was used for stamping.  The golfer was added to the scene by adding Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to the foam backing.  Little golf balls were added by using Queen  & Co. Pearls.

Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the focal image rectangle and it was adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the card was done.

Happy Birthday Cupcake

I decided that I wanted to used the Altenew Layered Plaid A for a subtle background to a masculine card and love the way it turned out.  The blue and grey color pallet is really pretty against the white.

I created a top folding A2 cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  I cut the Altenew Layered Plaid A die from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and sprayed the back with Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive.  I really works well when you have delicate die cuts.

I stamped the Avery Elle Cupcakes with Distress Oxide Broken China and Hickory Smoke.  I enhanced shadows and the flame with Copic Markers.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back for dimension and adhered to the lower left of the card with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The sentiment combines a die cut word from Lawn Fawn’s Happy Happy Happy, cut from Silver Mirror Cardstock, and another three times from gray cardstock, adhered together with Ranger Collage Medium.  The secondary greeting was from Winnie & Walter’s Sentimental Birthday was stamped on a scrap of gray cardstock with Distress Oxide Broken China and cut into a thin strip with an angled end.  A thin strip 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back and then it was adhered below the “happy” die cut word.

Starry Night Happy Birthday

I needed a masculine birthday card and decided to use a star theme.  I pulled out my Memory Box Starry Night Background die and cut it from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock cut to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  I backed it with a rectangle of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock and adhered them together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  The panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from the same black cardstock.

For the focal image I die cut the largest Spellbinders Star Five die from the same mirror cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut with the same die and trimmed with scissors to be just smaller and was adhered to the back and then adhered to the background with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

For the sentiment I die cut one of the “Happy” words from the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy stamp and die set from black cardstock and adhered it to the center of the large star with Ranger Collage Medium.  The secondary sentiment was stamped on a scrap of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  It was cut into a thin strip with an angled end and adhered to the large star with the same Collage Medium.  I added Ranger Glossy Accents to the Happy word and the card was done.

Dresden China Birthday Cards

These are the last two cards that I made with the Jillian Vance Dresden China Quilt Die.  This time I decided to stamp my own patterned paper using the Simon Says Stamp Kaleidoscope Leaves Background Die.  One was stamped with Simon Fog Ink and the other with Memento Summer Sky.

These were very easy cards to make.  I stamped the background and then die cut the images using an A2 My Favorite Things Stitched Rectange STAX die.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back.  I die cut the quilt from colored cardstock that was backed with Be Creative Tape and then removed the backing and adhered it to the card front.  For one of the cards I used a die cut sentiment and for the other I stamped it on the same colored cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.

Watercolored Mother’s Day Card 3

I was asked to help the 12 and 13 year-old girls in my church make cards for the mothers.  I decided to use a watercolor medium.  I stamped the images on Canson XL 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and then embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  This creates wells where they could only watercolor a small portion of the image at a time and it wouldn’t run into another section of the flower or leaves.  I created several card as example so they could make a selection on what they wanted to use for their mothers.  There are two cards using this stamp from Simon Says Stamp called Bouquet of Thanks, how appropriate for Mother’s Day.  These are the third example cards.

CARD 1:  I added some color at the base of a petal with a ZIG Clean Real Brush Markers 024 Wine, 044 Deep Green, 036 Light Blue and then pulled the color throughout using a watercolor brush and water. Once the watercoloring was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with the Pretty Pink Posh Winnie & Walter Audrey Essentials Rectangle Die.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back for added dimension.

The sentiment is a combination of stamping and die cutting. The stamped sentiment from Gina K. Designs Stitched Leaves was stamped on a scrap of pink cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder using Marvy Embossing Tool. It was cut into a then strip and 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape. The Mom word was cut from mirror cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Cole’s ABC Die and adhered to the lower left of the card and the sentiment was adhered above.

A side folding cardbase was made from pink cardstock in my stash. The focal image was adhered to the front with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Raspberry Sequins were added to the font with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

CARD 2:  This card was essentially the same with a little different because Distress Inks  Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Broken China were used for watercoloring and the Pretty Pink Posh Scalloped Rectangle Die was used to cut the image.  Pretty Pink Posh Clear Droplets were added for visual interest and the card was done.

Industrial Tarnished Silver Birthday Card

I love the new Ranger 3-D embossing folders.  They give such a deep impression and a couple of them make great masculine birthday card.  This card using the Ranger 3-D Foundry Embossing Folder and Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock.  Once it was embossed it was distressed or tarnished by running StazOn Jet Black Ink lightly over the surface, which really highlighted all the rivets in the design.

For the sentiment the word “birthday” was stamped on black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Silver Embossing Powder.  The word “happy” was die from the same mirror cardstock with the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy die and adhered above the embossed sentiment.  In keeping with the industrial feel, the sentiment was adhered to the front of the dry embossed panel using silver wire.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back of the panel and then it was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Onyx Black Base Weight Cardstock.

Masculine Birthday With Gold Striped Paper

I have had a lot of fun creating masculine cards with the Paper Studio Be Bold…Be Bright paper pad.  For this card I used the gray and gold stripe and really like how it turned out.

I die cut striped paper using a Memory Boxes Double Stitched Rectangle and then again from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  This die leaves a very narrow stitched frame.  I created a top folding A2 cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and adhered the gold narrow frame using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then glued the striped rectangle into place using the same adhesive.  Next I die cut a large balloon from the gold mirror cardstock using My Favorite Things Balloons.  The balloon string was cut from the same cardstock using Lawn Fawn’s Party Balloons.  The string was adhered to the back of the balloon using Scotch Tape and a circle of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut just smaller than the balloon and adhered to the back to create dimension.  The balloon and string was adhered to the card front with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

For the sentiment I raided my scraps of cardstock to find a matching gray cardstock and stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  It was then die cut using a My Favorite Things Stitched Fishtail Sentiments die.  A thin strip of leftover double sided foam was added to the back and the sentiment was adhered to the bottom of the card front and the card was done.

Easy to make and yet clean, simple, and stunning with the gold mirror stripe.

Altenew Bold Alphabet Die Masculine Birthday

It is amazing that in making a card one small change can take a card from so-so to stunning.  I had recently purchased some great graphic cardstock with gold foiling because I thought it would make great masculine cards.  I started with some navy and gold connecting circles paper.  I die cut a rectangle using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.   Next I die cut the word happy using Altenew’s Bold Alphabet dies along the bottom of the foiled paper.   I wanted to do an inlay technique and so I die cut the words again from black sticky back foam and backed the letters to provide dimension.  I added Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock behind the rectangle to create a gold border and die cut some balloons using both Lawn Fawn Party Balloon and Avery Elle Balloons Stamp and Dies.  I stamped the secondary sentiment with VersaMark Ink using My Favorite Things Delicious Birthday and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I adhered the balloons with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then adhered the letters back into their opening using Be Creative Tape because mirror cardstock can be tricky to adhere too and this is strong tape that works great.  But, I just didn’t love the card, the letters were lost in the pattern.  So I decided to use a Copic Marker (B39) to darken the letters and still didn’t like it.  I added some Wink of Stella and still it wasn’t a very good card, so I thought it was just one of those cards I would never use.

And then a few days latter after making another card with inlaid letters I had an aha moment.  I quickly die cut the word happy from gold mirror cardstock and adhered it on top of the previous blue words, offsetting just a little, and loved it.  I’ve shown both cards below so you can see the difference one small change can make.
