Inset Butterfly Celebrate Your Special Day

I love this large butterfly from Paper Artist and decided that I wanted it to back it with some pretty patterned paper. I die cut the butterfly three times from white cardstock to give it dimension, die cut a rectangle of white for the card front and then die cut the butterfly the way I wanted it to appear on the card front. I added some pretty pink patterned paper behind the rectangle, popped it up with some Darice Sticky Back Foam and added it to the cardbase. I then glued the white butterfly in place, scattered smaller butterflies around it, stamped the sentiment and the card was done.

Fluttering By to Say Happy Birthday

The Clean and Simple Challenge this week at Splitcoaststampers was to create a card with wings.  I have had the Hero Arts Butterflies stamp set for years and don’t think I’ve ever used it, so I decided to give it a try for this card.  I decided on a white, gray, and pink color scheme and think it turned out pretty.

The nice thing about this stamp set is that all the butterflies have a pretty background.  I stamped them on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with pink Distress Oxide Inks and then placed them on my Silhouette PIXScan Mat to cut around them.

I die cut a circle from Bo Bunny’s Isabella Collection Paper using a My Favorite Things Pierced Circle die and then scattered the three largest butterflies around the surface.  I used the smaller butterflies I had stamped and punched smaller butterflies using Martha Stewart’s 3 Butterflies Punch.  All were adhered to the circle using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  The larger butterflies only had glue added to the center so the wings could be lifted slightly.

A top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  I found a sentiment I liked in Hot of the Press’s Small Stamps Dragonfly but modified it a little.  I covered up the word “hi” with Post-it Tape and using Memento Fog Ink stamped it in the lower right of the cardbase.  I used Winnie & Walter’s Sentiment Birthday to stamp “happy birthday” below in the same ink.

Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back of the circl and it was adhered to the left of the card front, slightly overlapping the edge, which cut off with scissors.  Another small butterfly was adhered to the upper right of the card, small white pearls were added for the butterfly bodies and the card was done.

Fluttering By with a Birthday Hi!

This week’s technique challenge was Punched Strips.  The example showed the punched elements at the bottom of the strip, but I wanted to use butterflies for this technique and they wouldn’t work at the bottom of a strip, so I put them at the top instead.

I cut a rectangle of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  I punched my butterflies from scrap cardstock and then cut them into 1″ wide strips.  I wanted to add some dimension and so I ink blended the edges of the strips and butterflies with Distress Oxide Inks. I glued the strips to the die cut rectangle with a little Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  I popped up the butterflies with 3M 1/2″ Foam and added a little bling by using clear rhinestones for the butterfly bodies.

I didn’t have a stamp with the sentiment I wanted and I had created a sentiment using the Silhouette Cameo in another card this week.  It worked so well on my American Flag card that I decided to create my own sentiment for this card as well. I printed it in grey because the color scheme was soft colors and I thought black would be too stark.  It was cut another three times with the outline only and all where adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive.

The cardbase is a Simon Says Stamp Pre-Scored A2 side folding cardbase.

This was a fun challenge and I loved the way it turned out.
