Watercolor Mother’s Day Card 5

The last Mother’s Day Card example for the 12-13 year-old girls in my church uses the Clearly Besotted On Your Day stamp set.

It was colored using ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers 036 Light Blue, 026 Light Pink, 044 Deep Green, 046 Mid Green. I added some color at the base of a petal and then pull the color throughout using a watercolor brush and water. Once the watercoloring was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with the Pretty Pink Posh Scalloped Rectangle Die. Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back for added dimension.

The sentiment is a combination of stamping and die cutting. The stamped sentiment from Gina K. Designs Stitched Leaves was stamped on a scrap of pink cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder using Marvy Embossing Tool. It was cut into a then strip and 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape. One of the Mom words from SugarPea Designs Mom Words Die Set was cut from Tonic Gold Pearl Mirror Satin Cardstock and adhered to the lower left of the card and the sentiment strip was adhered above.

A side folding cardbase was made from pink cardstock in my stash. The focal image was adhered to the front with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were add for visual interest and the card was done.

Watercolored Mother’s Day Card 3

I was asked to help the 12 and 13 year-old girls in my church make cards for the mothers.  I decided to use a watercolor medium.  I stamped the images on Canson XL 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and then embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  This creates wells where they could only watercolor a small portion of the image at a time and it wouldn’t run into another section of the flower or leaves.  I created several card as example so they could make a selection on what they wanted to use for their mothers.  There are two cards using this stamp from Simon Says Stamp called Bouquet of Thanks, how appropriate for Mother’s Day.  These are the third example cards.

CARD 1:  I added some color at the base of a petal with a ZIG Clean Real Brush Markers 024 Wine, 044 Deep Green, 036 Light Blue and then pulled the color throughout using a watercolor brush and water. Once the watercoloring was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with the Pretty Pink Posh Winnie & Walter Audrey Essentials Rectangle Die.

The Mom word was cut from mirror cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Cole’s ABC Die and adhered to the lower left of the card and the sentiment was adhered above.

A side folding cardbase was made from pink cardstock in my stash. The focal image was adhered to the front with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Raspberry Sequins were added to the font with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

CARD 2:  This card was essentially the same with a little different because Distress Inks  Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Broken China were used for watercoloring and the Pretty Pink Posh Scalloped Rectangle Die was used to cut the image.  Pretty Pink Posh Clear Droplets were added for visual interest and the card was done.

Watercolored Mother’s Day Card 2

I was asked to help the 12 and 13 year-old girls in my church make cards for the mothers.  I decided to use a watercolor medium.  I printed this image from Sparkle ‘n Sprinkle called Beautiful Magnolia on Canson XL 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper  I created several card as example so they could make a selection on what they wanted to use for their mothers.  This is the second example card.

Since this was not an embossed image it was necessary to talk with the girls about the importance of not working on petals of the flower right next to one another.  It was colored with ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers026 Light Pink, 045 Pale Green, 048 Emerald Green.  The color on the flowers was added to the base of a petal and then spread through with a watercolor brush.  For the leaves the darker color was added to the veins and base and then the lighter color was used to meet that color and spread it throughout the leaf.  Once the image was colored and dry it was run through the Big Shot with a Gina Marie Designs Loopy Rectangle Die, which add a beautiful border to the image.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back for dimension when adhering to the front of a side folding A2 cardbase made from some pink cardstock I had in my stash.

The sentiment is a combination of stamping and die cutting. The stamped sentiment from Gina K. Designs Stitched Leaves was stamped on Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder using Marvy Embossing Tool. It was cut into a then strip and 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape. One of the Mom words from SugarPea Designs Mom Words Die Set was cut from Tonic Gold Pearl Mirror Satin Cardstock and adhered to the lower right of the card and the sentiment was adhered above.

Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were scattered on the front, adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

Mom I Love You Mother’s Day Card

I love the image from C. C. Designs DoveArt Studios Himalayan Poppy and decided to use it for my Mom’s Mother’s Day card this year.  She loves red and so that is what I used to color this image with Copic Markers: R22, R24, R27, R29; YG99, YG97, YG95; BG000, BG0000.

With colored pencil shading
Without colored pencil shading

Once coloring was done I die cut the image with the second largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Another rectangle was cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock 1/8” larger and both were adhered together using Be Creative Double Sided Tape.  (I find this works best with the smooth surface of mirror cardstock.)  Simon Says Stamp Script Mom was also cut from the same mirror cardstock and again from Darice Sticky Backed Fun Foam.  I cut the foam with the sticky side up and find it works really well to add dimension to die cut words.

Darice Sticky Back Fun Foam was added to the back of the focal image rectangle and then it was placed on a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Mother’s Day, which was stamped underneath the focal image rectangle on the right.  The focal image was then adhered to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were scattered on the card front.

I thought the card was done at this time, but the more I looked at it I just felt that it needed something more.  I had just watched a YouTube video about adding shading to Copic colored images with colored pencils and decided to give it a try.  I used my Derwent Inktense Pencil 0410 Hot Red to add shadows to the flower centers and liked it much better, but I still felt it needed something, so I pulled out my Sakura Gelly Roll Metallic Gold #551 pen and added gold dots to the flower stamen and finally felt like it was complete.
