Happy Everything Aubrey

This card was made for a young woman at my church whose favorite color is purple.  I used the La-La Land Crafts Darling Marci Digi Stamp and printed it on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with my laser jet printer, which allows you to color with Copic Markers without the lines bleeding.

I colored the image with the following Copic Markers: V28, V25, V22, BV17, BV 13; E49, E47, E57, E55; E11, E01, E000, R20, R21.  I added white polka dots to the dress using a Sakura White Get Pen.  Once the coloring was complete I used the PIXScan Mat to cut around the image with the Silhouette Cameo.

I found some purple and pink plaid cardstock in the Recollections Bright & Basic Paper Pack and die cut it with an A2 My Favorite Things Rectangle STAX die.  It was adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.

Whenever I use an image that appears to be sitting I like to have something to ground them.  I die cut the La-La Land Crafts Garden Bench out of some Simon Says Stamp Woodgrain Cardstock and ink blended it with Distress Inks Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo.  I added thin strips of 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back of the bend to add dimension.  The focal image was adhered to the bend with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive, with a little foam tape behind the legs so that it would be on the same level.

The sentiment is a Penny Black die from the Awesome set.  It was cut multiple times from white cardstock and adhered together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  The top layers was colored using the same purple Copic Markers that had been used on the dress, blended with darkest on the bottom.  It was adhered to the bottom of the plaid card front and then the bench and girl were adhered as well.

A Little Birthday Wish for Lizzie

This card was made for a wonderful young woman in my church named Lizzie whose favorite color is blue.  When I’m making cards for the young women in the ward I try and find a stamp that looks a little similar to them in length of hair.  This stamp is a digital image from Paper Nest Dolls called Cupcake.

I printed the image onto Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with my Brother Laser Printer, which allows you to color the image without the lines bleeding. Colors used: B97, B95, B93, B91; BG49, BG45; R46, R43; E55, E57, E31; E11, E02, D01, E00, E000; C6, C4, C2; Y26, Y23. Once the coloring was complete I die cut around the image with the PIXScan Mat and the Silhouette Cameo. I placed the image on some Darice Sticky Back Foam, traced around it with a pencil, fussy cut the foam with scissors, the added it to the back of the image.

Since Lizzie’s favorite color is blue I found some blue patterned paper that matched the colors in the image and die cut it with an A2 My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle. I decided I wanted to have a raised frame around the image and so I placed a Gina Marie Designs In & Out Stud Dot Rectangle in the center of the paper and cut it using the Big Shot. 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was cut to add to the back of the frame.

The image and frame were placed on a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock to determine where to stamp the sentiment. The sentiment is from the My Favorite Things Birthday Greetings stamp set and was stamped using Distress Oxide Faded Jeans. The backing was removed from the foam tape and the frame was added to the font of the of the card. The image was then adhered using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the card was done.

Tarnished Gold Sympathy Card

On Thursday a friend of our from church lost her husband unexpectedly.  As I went to create a card I thought that this beautiful tarnished gold technique would make the perfect sympathy card.  Dark days of loss and sorrow, but shining through great love and happy memories.

I ran a piece of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock through the Big Shot with the Darice Cherry Blossom Embossing Folder, debossing the image so that it would be mostly black after running StazOn Jet Black Ink over the surface, leave the beautiful flowers shining gold behind.  Once it was dry I ran it through the Big Shot again with a My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle STAX die and then added more gold cardstock behind it for a very thin border, adhered using Be Creative Tape to secure it to the slick surface of the mirror cardstock.  I added black sticky back foam to the back of the panel for dimension and adhered it to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock.

This sentiment was also die cut from gold mirror cardstock using Avery Elle’s With Sympathy die and adhered to a strip of the same black cardstock with another thin border of gold on the top and bottom.  The two additional word from the stamp set were stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  More black foam was added behind the sentiment strip and then it was adhered to the front of the card with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  A white panel of cardstock was added to the inside of the card and a sentiment from My sentiments Exactly Strength and Hope as stamped with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and the card was done.

Embossed Arrow Tarnished Gold Celebrate Birthday Card

This is the last card that I made with a tarnished gold mirror embossed panel.  This time I kept it very clean and simple with just the embossed panel and a sentiment strip.

The Darice Arrow Embossing Folder was used with Gold Mirror Cardstock and then tarnished by running StazOn Jet Black Ink over the surface.  Once the ink was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back and the panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages and was stamped with VersaMark Ink on a a strip of black cardstock and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  3M 1/2″ Foam tape was added to the back and then it was adhered to the card front and the card was done.

Tarnished Gold Vine Embossed Birthday Wishes

I was having so much fun working with this new technique of tarnishing gold mirror cardstock with embossing folders that I decided to make another card, this time with a feminine twist using the Darice Vine Embossing Folder and My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers.  It turned out to be such and elegant looking card.

I decided to deboss the vines into the gold mirror cardstock.  I really like the way it gives a rich black background when the StazOn Jet Black Ink is run across the surface.  Once the panel was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.

For embellishments I found that the Memory Box Lorelai Leaf Poppy was almost an exact match to the vines in the embossing folder.  It was such a close match that when I die cut it from gold mirror cardstock it got lost in the shimmer of the panel, so I decided to cut it two times from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onxy Black Cardstock and stacked them together a little offset and added small amounts of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to hold them together.  A bow was die around the bottom of the cluster with Cousin’s Iridescent Gold Cord.  Several flowers from the My Favorite Things Stitched Flowers die set were also cut from gold mirror cardstock and grouped together.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back and they were adhered at the bottom of the leave cluster.

The sentiment is from the My Favorite Things Peaceful Wildflowers stamp set and stamped with VersaMark Ink on a scrap of black cardtock and adhered directly to the embossed panel to the left of the flower bouquet and the card was done.

Zen Bouquet Birthday Card with Polychromos Pencils

This is the second card I made with Honey Bee Stamp’s Zen Bouquet.  This time it was stamped on vellum and then colored from the back with Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils.  This is the first time I have used these new pencils.  One thing to be aware of when coloring on vellum is that the colors are very muted.  They are very pretty, but they are pastel rather than vibrant in hue.

One of the challenges when working with vellum is how to adhere it to your card.  The image was too wide to go through Xyron Create a Sticker Maker so I decided to use 6″ Be Creative Tape adhered to a 6″ x 6″ piece of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and then die cut it with the matching die.  The focal image was also die cut with the matching die and the two were adhered together.  Both were adhered to a rectangle of the same white cardstock, but I didn’t like the way the white on white looked on the cardbase, made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  So I decided to run it through the Big Shot with a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  This was a challenge because now it was several layers, but eventually, with a lot of passes and a little cutting with a guillotine cutter .  I then decided to add some teal blue cardstock as a border around the image and used that same cardstock to create the banner greeting from My Favorite Things Delicious Birthday, which was heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.

As a final embellishment I used one of the butterflies from the Clearly Besotted Butterfly Wishes set was stamped with Gina K. Designs Sweet Corn Ink and two smaller butterflies from Martha Stewart’s Butterfly Trio Punch colored with Gina K. Designs Blue Lagoon and Bubblegum ink and the card was done.

Masculine Birthday With Gold Striped Paper

I have had a lot of fun creating masculine cards with the Paper Studio Be Bold…Be Bright paper pad.  For this card I used the gray and gold stripe and really like how it turned out.

I die cut striped paper using a Memory Boxes Double Stitched Rectangle and then again from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  This die leaves a very narrow stitched frame.  I created a top folding A2 cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and adhered the gold narrow frame using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then glued the striped rectangle into place using the same adhesive.  Next I die cut a large balloon from the gold mirror cardstock using My Favorite Things Balloons.  The balloon string was cut from the same cardstock using Lawn Fawn’s Party Balloons.  The string was adhered to the back of the balloon using Scotch Tape and a circle of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut just smaller than the balloon and adhered to the back to create dimension.  The balloon and string was adhered to the card front with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

For the sentiment I raided my scraps of cardstock to find a matching gray cardstock and stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  It was then die cut using a My Favorite Things Stitched Fishtail Sentiments die.  A thin strip of leftover double sided foam was added to the back and the sentiment was adhered to the bottom of the card front and the card was done.

Easy to make and yet clean, simple, and stunning with the gold mirror stripe.

Altenew Bold Alphabet Die Masculine Birthday

It is amazing that in making a card one small change can take a card from so-so to stunning.  I had recently purchased some great graphic cardstock with gold foiling because I thought it would make great masculine cards.  I started with some navy and gold connecting circles paper.  I die cut a rectangle using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.   Next I die cut the word happy using Altenew’s Bold Alphabet dies along the bottom of the foiled paper.   I wanted to do an inlay technique and so I die cut the words again from black sticky back foam and backed the letters to provide dimension.  I added Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock behind the rectangle to create a gold border and die cut some balloons using both Lawn Fawn Party Balloon and Avery Elle Balloons Stamp and Dies.  I stamped the secondary sentiment with VersaMark Ink using My Favorite Things Delicious Birthday and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I adhered the balloons with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then adhered the letters back into their opening using Be Creative Tape because mirror cardstock can be tricky to adhere too and this is strong tape that works great.  But, I just didn’t love the card, the letters were lost in the pattern.  So I decided to use a Copic Marker (B39) to darken the letters and still didn’t like it.  I added some Wink of Stella and still it wasn’t a very good card, so I thought it was just one of those cards I would never use.

And then a few days latter after making another card with inlaid letters I had an aha moment.  I quickly die cut the word happy from gold mirror cardstock and adhered it on top of the previous blue words, offsetting just a little, and loved it.  I’ve shown both cards below so you can see the difference one small change can make.

Party Balloons Masculine Birthday Card II

I love the combination of blue and green and decided to use this as the color combination for this masculine birthday card.

It is a clean and simple design that doesn’t take much time to create.  Scraps of green and blue glitter cardstock was pulled from my stash and die cut using My Favorite Things Party Balloons.  The strings for the balloons are from Lawn Fawn’s Party Balloons dies and were cut from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock. The strings were adhered to the back of the balloons with Scotch Tape.

The word “happy” was cut from the green glitter cardstock using WPlus9’s Happy Trio Die.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A rectangle of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock was die cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back and the rectangle was adhered to the cardbase with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The balloons were adhered to the focal image rectangle with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the word die cut was adhered over the tails of the balloons with the same glue.  The secondary sentiment is from Winnie & Walter’s The Big, The Bold and Party stamp set, was stamped with Gina K. Designs Blue Denim Ink just below the word “happy” and this quick and easy card was done.

Happy Birthday Party Balloons Masculine Card

Inspiration for this card was the beautiful sugar coated confetti cardstock from Doodlebug.  I think it makes a great masculine birthday card.

Glitter cardstock matching the Doodlebug paper was found in my stash and then die cut using My Favorite things Party Balloons.  The strings for the balloons were die cut using Lawn Fawn’s Party Balloons and Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock.

The sentiment is from CZ Designs Birthday Palooze die.  The problem I found after cutting the word was that the confetti easily peels off the front of the cardstock, so I decided to cover it with Ranger Glossy Accents to keep them in place and ensure that they would remain intact for the recipient of the card.  I really liked the look of the dimension added in this process.

Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock was cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back.  An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Red Hot Cardstock and the white rectangle was adhered to the front using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

The balloon strings were adhered to the back of each balloon with Scotch Tape.  The orange balloon was adhered directly to the rectangle with liquid glue.  The red and yellow balloon strings were adhered with liquid glue, but 3M 1/2″ foam tape was adhered to the back of the balloon.

The happy was cut three additional time from red cardstock and all word die cuts were adhered together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  Before adhered to the focal image the secondary sentiment from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold and Party was stamped with Altenew Crimson Ink.  The word die cut was then adhered with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the card was done.
