Artist Emma Birthday

Emma is a sweetheart and a talented painter.  She taught a watercolor class to the girls in her age group.  When I saw the Artist Marci stamp from La-La Land Crafts I knew it would be perfect for her.

I printed the image on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock using a laser printer, which ensure that the image will not bleed when colored with Copic Markers.  I modified the stamp by drawing a flower in the middle of the art board with a Sakura Pigma Micron Pen.  Her favorite color is pink and so that is the color scheme used for coloring the image.

I decided use a My Favorite Things Pierced Rectangle Frame.  I thought it would be in keeping with how we frame our art pieces.  It was die cut from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  To add dimension 3M ½” Foam Tape was cut in half and adhered to the back of the frame.  I found some pink patterned paper in the Doodlebug Sweet Things 6 x 6 Paper Pack and cut it just smaller than the frame and removing the backing from the foam tape it was adhered to the back of the frame.

The focal image was placed in the frame to determine where to stamp the sentiment, which is from Penny Black Sprinkles & Smiles.  It was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.

An A2 Top Folding Cardbase was made from Gina K. Desgins 120# White Cardstock and the frame was adhered to the front using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the focal image and then adhered above the sentiment and the card was done.

Patterned Paper Gold Mirror Birthday Balloon

Maybe it’s because my husband’s favorite color is blue that I make so many of my masculine cards with that color.  I love the Craft Smith Indigo Gold 12 x 12 Paper Pad because it has some patterned paper that make great masculine cards.  A little shine, great patterned paper, and wonderful word art and you have a great card.

For this card I used a chevron patterned paper and die cut it with a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  I cut a rectangle of Gina K. Designs 120# Navy Cardstock 1/8” larger and adhered the two together with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut with the same rectangle die and adhered to the back of the patterned paper.

The sentiment from Penny Black’s Awesome dies was cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock and two additional times from navy cardstock.  They were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and then adhered to the bottom of the patterned paper with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  A balloon and string were also cut from the gold mirror cardstock using My Favorite Things Party Balloons die set.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the balloon and then the balloon and string were adhered to the card front using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image rectangle was adhered with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.  Simple and easy to make.

Non-Watercolor First Waltz Birthday Wish

I had a friend who is new to cardmaking come over the other day.  She loves Penny Black, but she didn’t think she could make her watercolor images look good.  We tried it the traditional why of coloring the stamp with watercolor markers, spritzing with water, and stamping several time to get the image you want, but she didn’t like the way they looked.  It was a little too loose for her taste.  After she left I decided to try stamping the image with a couple of colors of inks and this card is the result.  I really like the way it turned out.

I placed Penny Black’s First Waltz in the MISTI and then pulled out my Gina K. Designs Inks.  For the flowers I used Dusty Rose and Passionate Pink.  I first stamped with the lighter color and then stamped again just using the darker color on the edges of the petals.  The leaves were stamped with Jelly Bean Green first and then again with Fresh Asparagus.  In looking at the sample provided by Penny Black I colored the stamen with a Micron 03 Black Pen.

The sentiment is a discontinued stamp by Amy R called Great Birthday Greetings.  It’s too bad it is no longer available, it has really loved greetings that I used all the time.  It was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black in the lower left of the card.

The focal image was then die cut using My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangles.  A rectangle of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Asparagus Green Cardstock and the card was done.

This is the traditional watercolored look for this type of Penny Black stamp.

Make a Wish Flowers Bring on the Happy Card

This is another flower image recently release from Clearly Besotted entitled Make a Wish.  I wish when they provide details about the stamps that they would tell you what kind of flower it is.  To be it looks like a cherry, apricot, or other type of fruit blossom.  I stamped it on Canson XL Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and then heat embossed it with the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool and Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  This is my favorite way to watercolor.  The embossed edges help control the watercolor and keep the image crisp and detailed.

I used Winsor & Newton Artist Grade Watercolor Pans in Permanent Rose, Chinese White, and Olive Green.  I added the white to the rose color so that it would be a pastel pink.  After the image was completely dry Derwent Inktense Pencils 0520 Carmine Pink and 1560 Fern Green were used to add shadows to the center of the petals and blended out with a Dove Blending Pen.

The watercolored panel was then die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  A slightly larger rectangle was cut with a guillotine paper cutter out of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and adhered to the back of the watercolored panel with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  As a final embellishment Neat and Tangled Pink Lemonade, Doodlebug Cupcake, and Pretty Pink Post Sugar Plum Mix Sequins were adhered around the image using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I recently purchased Simon Says Stamp Bouquet of Thanks and decided to watercolor the image.  I stamped it on Canson XL Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles and was stamped and embossed in the same manner.

Three Balloon Birthday

I ink blended a rectangle of Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock with Distress Oxide Inks: Broken China, Peacock Feathers, and Salty Ocean.  Stitched edges were added to the panel using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Another rectangle was cut with the same die out of Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock and then run through the Big Shot again with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Border and Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A strip of the ink blended rectangle was cut so that it would be the correct width to fit behind the hillside border white rectangle and adhered directly to the cardbase using Kokuyo Dotliner adhesive.

The sentiment is from Winnie & Walter Sentiment Birthday set and was inked with the same Oxide Inks that that it had an ombre look.  The extra space to the left of the sentiment was a perfect place to add three balloons from Penny Black’s Uplifting Balloons, which were cut from the leftover ink blended panel.  They were glued directly to the cardbase with Ranger Multi Medium Matte, with the exception of the heart balloon which was attached using 3M ½” Foam Tape.  Balloon strings were drawn in using a KaiserCraft Gel Glitter Pen.  Tombo Mono Multi Glue was added to the back of the hillside panel and adhered to the front of the cardbase and the card was done.

Altenew Adore You Birthday Wishes

A woman I serve with in the young women’s organization at church has a birthday the first week of September.  Her favorite colors are blue and gray.  I had recently purchased Altenew’s Adore You stamp and dies and decided to use them for her birthday card.  I love the way that it turned out.

I stamped the flowers and leaves on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then colored them with Copic Markers B93, B95, B97, B99; G94, YG03.  I then ran them through the Big Shot with the matching dies.  I die cut a rectangle of the same white cardstock with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Stackable Rectangle and arranged the flowers the way I wanted them to determine where to stamp the sentiment from Penny Black Sprinkles & Smiles.  It was stamped with VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed with Ranger Detail Silver Embossing Powder, which pulled in a little sparkling gray.

Some of the flowers were adhered directly to the white rectangle with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and others were adhered using 3M ½” Foam Tape and some foam squares I have in my stash that has a slightly higher profile.  Silver Stickles were added to the stamen and then Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Silver Sequins were scattered around the flowers.

To accent the blue color of the flowers I decided to make the cardbase from Gina K. Designs 120# Navy Cardstock.  The white rectangle focal image was adhered directly to the front of the cardbase with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.  Clear Wink of Stella was added to the flowers and the card was done.

Nina Joy’s 90th Birthday

I tend to like colors that are cooler in hue, but my mother loves warm colors.  Back in the day I was termed a winter and Mom was an autumn.  My sweet, wonderful mother will be turning ninety in September.  She is such an inspiration to all of us blessed to know her.  I have never met another person so outwardly focused.  She is always thinking of others and performing acts of service every single day. She is either baking a pie for someone from church to say thank you, washing the clothes of the single parent father next door, making a meal for a new mother, visiting with people in the assisted living center where she lives, taking someone to a doctor’s appointment, you name it, by mother is doing it.  If anyone on earth is an angel, it’s my mother.  I am so grateful that she is still in my life and I hope that I can be half the woman my mother is and, when I’m as old as she is, that I have grown up to be just like her.

Mother loves roses and this Scented Beauty image from Penny Black is one of the prettiest I’ve seen.  I stamped it on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  It was colored with Copic Markers: YR12, YR04, YR18; YG01, G94; Y11, Y00.  Ususally I use B000, B00 for the background on an image, but this time I decided to use light yellows and really like the glow it adds to the focal image.

The sentiment is from Paper Smooches Scripty Saying and was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  The focal image was then die cut with the largest My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangles and Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and added to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from black textured cardstock I had in my stash and the focal image was adhered with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  As a finishing touch Pretty Pink Posh Mettalic Gold and Tangerine Sequins were added, along with Clear Wink of Stella to the flowers, and the card was done.

Penny Black Scented Beauty: Sparkle It’s Your Birthday

You can probably determine from the cards I have posted that I love Penny Black flower stamps.  They make beautiful cards and the open images are easy to color.  For this card I selected Scented Beauty and stamped it on Canson XL Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Black Ink and embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The raised outlines of the embossing powder make it very easy to control where the watercolor goes.

I made two cards with the stamp, watercoloring them with slightly different reds.  Both were stamped on Canson XL Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Black Ink and embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder. Tombo Dual Brush Markers were used to color the images.

For this card I only used one marker for each color.  I would add the marker color at the base of each petel where it would be the darkest and then using a Sakura Waterbrush Pen I would pull the color out to the tip of the petal.  For the leaves I added the color to the base of the leaf and the veins pulled the color out with the waterbrush pen.  Quick and simple to do.

The blue background was done by scribbling the blue marker on an acrylic block, adding water to lighten the intensity and carefully adding it to focal image.  The raised surface of the embossed lines helps you to keep the colors from running together.

Once the image was completely dry it was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the focal image and adhered to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles and was stamped in the lower left of the card with VersaMark Ink.  It was then embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Embossing Powder and heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool.

As a final embellishment, Neat & Tangled Raspberry Mix Sequins were scattered around the focal image and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.
