A Warm Welcome

A couple of weeks ago we had three families move into our congregation at church. Our congregations are organized into wards, which are a geographic area that determines who attends at what times.  This ensures that the congregations don’t get so big people won’t be able to know one another and get lost in the crowd. But even with smaller congregations it’s hard to move and not know anyone.  I decided that since I love making cards I would start making welcome cards for the new families. Here are the three cards that I made. I must have been in a pink mood, because all of them have pink flowers.

CARD #1 was made with Altenew’s Peony Bouquet and stamped with Altenew Ink.  This image has multiple layers. I tried stamping the outline area first, but after some trial and error I found I got a better image when I started with the solid base.  For the flowers, layer 1 was stamped with Blush, layer 2 with Rouge, layer 3 with Crimson, and the outline with Hero Hues Black. The leaves were stamped with Frayed Leaf for layer 1 and Forest Glades for layer 2.

I die cut a panel of Gina K. Design 120# white cardstock  using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and adhered one of the full blooms, the bud, and leaves with Elmer’s Dot Runner adhesive.  The final bloom was adhered with 3M 1/2″ foam tape to give added dimension.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Little One and was stamped with my MISTI in Hero Hues Black. This allowed me to stamp a few times to get a crisp black.  I adhered the panel to a 120# Gina K. Design white card base with 3M 1/2″ foam tape, scattered a few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh Sweetheart collection, added a bloom to the inside left corner and the card was done.

Welcome1

CARD #2 was made with Penny Black’s Centerpiece and stamped in VersaMark ink on 140# Cold Press Strathmore Watercolor Paper.  Before stamping I prepped the area with my embossing buddy so the embossing powder would only cling to the stamped image.  I used Ranger’s Platinum Embossing Powder, which gives an elegant feel to the card.  I watercolored the image by wetting down individual flowers and dropping the color into the area, letting the color move on its own and concentrating the darker color where there would be shadows.  I used the following Distress Inks: Spun Sugar, Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry, Victorian Velvet, Seedless Preserves, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber, Antique Linen, and Tumbled Glass.

I die cut the watercolor image using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Little One and was stamped with VersaMark and embossed with Ranger Platinum embossing powder. I adhered the panel to a 120# Gina K. Design white card base with 3M 1/2″ foam tape.  You can see a hint of the inside of the card.  I always stamp the image in a light ink or add a small die cut image similar to what is on the front of the card.   Sometimes I add another sentiment, but not always.  I do something similar for the envelopes.  Once the inside was stamped the card was done.

CARD #3 was made with Penny Black’s Blooming Garden. I watercolored the image by wetting down individual flower petals and dropping the color into the water, letting it move on its own.  I used Winsor and Newton Permanent Rose and Sap Green.  The background was a blend of Cerulean Blue and Turquoise Light, watered down so that it was a very light wash.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Beautiful Baby, stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger’s Platinum Embossing Powder.

I die cut the image using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles and adhered the panel to a 120# Gina K. Design white card base with 3M 1/2″ foam tape, stamped the image on the inside of the card with Altenew Rouge ink and the card was done.

Happy Birthday Air Boy

My brother-in-law Dan has his birthday on the same day as my wedding anniversary, so it’s easy to remember.  He and my sister live in the San Diego area and a couple of years ago we visited the U.S.S. Midway with them.  Dan and my husband, Michael, had a great day looking at all the details of the ship, where they stored the airplanes when not in use, how precarious it was to take off and land on such a short runway, etc.  They had a grand time.  So, this year I decided to make a birthday card for Dan with Penny Black’s Air Boy.

I wanted to try my hand at a little no line watercoloring.  I stamped the image on Strathmore 140 lb. Cold Press Watercolor paper with Distress Antique Linen ink and colored the image with the following Distress inks.

  • Cap and Bomber Jacket: Gathered Twigs and Ground Espresso / Collar: Walnut Stain and Gathered Twigs / Ear Flaps: Tea Dye
  • Goggles: Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain, Tea Dye
  • Scarf: Faded Jeans
  • Shoes: Faded Jeans and Weathered Wood
  • Slacks: Brushed Corduroy
  • Airplane: Weathered Wood and Candied Apple
  • Face: Tea Dye and Abandoned Coral
  • Grass: Mowed Lawn
  • Sky: Tumbled Glass

I sized the image using the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle and stamped the greeting from C. C. Designs Amy R Winged Greetings Sentiments using my MISTI with Hero Hues India Black ink.  I adhered the watercolored panel to a top fold card base from blue cardstock I’ve had in my my stash using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape for a little dimension and ensuring it would lay flat. On the inside of the card I stamped the image again on white cardstock with Antique Linen  and the “Happy Birthday to You” greeting from the same stamp set and the card was done.00133aw
