Spring Card Camp 2 Day 17 Die Cut Pieces Highlight Small Cover Dies

For Day 17 of the Online Card Class Spring Card Camp 2 May Park and Lea Lawson were the guest designers and their technique was to highlight background die pieces. May ink blended a background, added foam behind it and then die cut a star background from it. The background was once again cut from white cardstock and adhered to a top folding cardbase. The ink blended shapes were then added to areas of the white background creating a lovely colorful card front. She die cut a large sentiment from glitter cardstock and added a secondary black and white sentiment strip. Lea Lawson took a background die and removed the negative die cut, leaving only the positive pieces on the card.

The next four cards I created used small cover dies from Sizzix. I was able to get all four cards from one quarter sheet of ink blended blue cardstock. The greatest challenge with this smaller dies it how to lay them out on a card front. I decided to use small focal images with the panels.

Card 1 Circle and Diamond Background Positive (Featured Image).

As with the other cards I added sticky back foam to the ink blended background before cutting the background die. After cutting the circle and diamond shaped background liquid glue was added to the positive pieces of the die and adhered to a white rectangle the same size as the opening of the background die. I didn’t like the way it looked on the card front so cut a piece of white cardstock 3/4″ larger and embossed to add visual interest and adhered the rectangle with the positive shapes to the center. I still didn’t like the way it looked on a white card front, so I searched and found a scrap of blue cardstock and cut it using a stitched rectangle and adhered the white embossed rectangle with the positive shapes to it and then adhered it all to the card front.

I printed and die cut a hot air balloon image in the Silhouette Cameo software. At the same time I created a sentiment strip with a blue background, which was cut with a sentiment label die. The balloon was adhered to the left of positive die cut shapes and the sentiment label was adhered below the balloon.

Card 2 Circle and Diamond Background Negative

I decided to turn this panel into a shaker card. Acetate was cut to the same size of the panel and adhered with liquid glue. Foam tape was doubled and cut into thin strips and applied tot he frame of the panel. A blue seed bead mix was added to the well of the die cut. The backing was removed from the foam tape and another piece of acetate was adhered adhered to the back of the panel to create the shaker.

A stitched rectangle was cut from white cardstock and adhered to a top folding white cardbase. I decided to adhere the shaker to the left of the card front and determined where to stamp the sentiment. The cute little bird image was adhered to the right of the panel to be over the sentiment. Ranger Crystal Stickles were added to the polka dot on the scarf on the hat and the center of the flowers.

Spring Blossoms Counting My Blessings

It’s springtime and all the trees are flowering. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. This image from Pinterest looks like a branch of cherry blossoms to me and so I colored it with a pink center fading to white with Copic Markers.

Once coloring was complete I die cut the image with Penny’s Black’s Swirly Stitched Rectangle and adhered it to a top folding A2 cardbase with dotliner adhesive.

The sentiment was created and cut in the Silhouette Cameo and adhered to the bottom of the image with foam tape.

A quick and easy card.

Soft Purple Rose Counting My Blessings

This is another pretty rose image from Pinterest. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a rose of this color of pinky purple, but I think there should be. It is so soft and pretty.

Once the coloring was done the image was die cut with the Memory Box Matinee Rectangle. A top folding A2 cardbase was embossed with the Darice Basketweave Embossing Folder to add visual interest. The focal image was adhered to card front with liquid glue.

The sentiment was created and cut in the Silhouette Cameo. It was adhered to the card front using foam tape.

Orange Rose Counting My Blessings

With everything that is happening with Covid-19 I think it is important to keep in touch with our loved ones. I created a sentiment in the Silhouette Cameo and cut around it with the software.

I’ve had this beautiful rose image from Pinterest that I decided to color with bright orange Copic Markers. I have in my backyard a rose bush that has this beautiful color. I’m looking forward to having it bloom again.

I used the scalloped rectangle from Winnie & Walter’s Audrey Essentials to size down the image. I mounted in on some black cardstock, which really makes the rose pop on the page. The two rectangles where adhered together with dotliner adhesive and then adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase.

The sentiment was added to the bottom of the image with foam tape and the card was done.

Orange Dahlia Thinking of You

I loved the bright colors I used in the last card I created and decided to color this image with a bright orange and like the way it turned out. I colored it with Copic Markers and then fussy cut the image out.

The image did not have leaves so I used the leaves from Altenew’s Beautiful Heart and colored them with olive green colors. I felt that it would go best with the orange of the flower. Liquid glue was used to adhered the leaves to the flower.

A rectangle was cut using a Penny Black Swirly stitched Rectangle. It adds great visual interest to a clean and simple card design.

The flower image was traced on a foam sheet and fussy cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back of the flower image and adhered with liquid glue and then added to the card front.

It was printed on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with a laser jet printer, which ensures the lines of the image will not bleed when coloring. I decided to use a light blue for the background, it really makes the image pop.

The sentiment is from the Avery Elle Petals and Stems and was stamped at the bottom of the image with Gina K. Designs Amalgam Ink. I used a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle and then a mat of black cardstock was added to the back.

Darice Foam Sheet was cut to 1/8″ smaller than the rectangle and then it was adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase and the card was done.

A pretty rectangle was cut using a Gina Marie Designs Petite Looped Lace Rectangle and adhered to a side folding A2 cardbase.

Watercolored Spring Bouquet Thinking of You

This is a Pinterest image I’ve had for a long time. I don’t remember if I have used it before, but it makes a lovely spring bouquet.

I printed the image onto some Bristol Smooth Cardstock using a laser jet printer. This ensures the lines won’t bleed when watercoloring the image.

I used ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers to watercolor the image. Once the coloring was dry I die cut it with a Memory Box Matinee Rectangle. I adhered it to a top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Base Weight Onyx Black Cardstock. This really lets the pretty die cut be seen.

The sentiment is from Gina K. Designs Framescape Winter Trees. It was stamped with VersaMark Ink onto a scrap of black cardstock and heat embossed with white embossing powder and then die cut with a Honey Bee Sentiment Banner. Foam tape was added to the back and it was adhered to the bottom of the focal image. The final embellishment was to add Pentel Sunburst Metallic Gold Gel Pen to the center of some of the flowers and the card was done.
