Birthday Wishes Cupcake

I am always looking for images that can be used for masculine cards. While I was searching for an image for my daughter-in-law I ran across this Birthday Wishes Cupcake from Polka Doodles and thought it could make a fun card.

This is a digital image so I do not have a coordinating die. I’m not fond of fussy cutting so I printed it with my laser printer, using registration marks in the Silhouette software. This is the easiest way to print and cut an image. The laser printer ensures that the lines do not bleed when coloring with alcohol markers.

Using a plaid background for a masculine card is always good when you have a smaller image. I went through my 6 x 6 paper pad and found this green plaid paper. It was cut down using a stitched rectangle. To match the paper the image was colored with green, blue, and cream Copic Markers, with a touch of yellow for the flame on the candle.

Once the coloring was complete foam tape was added to the back of the image and it was adhered to the center of the plaid rectangle. No additional sentiment is needed since the cupcake liner has the words “Birthday Wishes” in the design. I liked the way it looks, but it was pretty plain and needed a little something extra. So I pulled out the Your Next Stamp Confetti Panel and cut it from blue, green, and yellow cardstock and scattered the positive confetti pieces around the image. It looked so much better.

To add additional visual interest I also decided to pull out the Cuttlebug Polka Dot Embossing Folder and emboss the front of the top folding A2 cardbase. The plaid focal image panel was added to the front of the card with liquid glue and the card was done.

Have an Amazing Birthday Monica

My daughter-in-law Monica used to be a little goth. She still likes black and skulls, maybe it’s a little fall back to her Mexican American heritage and the Sugar Skulls that are part of Halloween. She also insists that she is going to be 29 every year until the end of time (smile). Don’t we all wish! When I saw this cute image from Polka Doodles I knew it would make the perfect birthday card for her.

This is a digital image, so I printed it using registration marks in my Silhouette Cameo so that I could have the machine cut out the image. Monica has burgundy highlights in her beautiful dark hair and so that is the way I colored the hair on this cut girl holding a skull in her hand. The dress of course is black, but the color and cuffs are burgundy. You can’t see them very well with the placement of the sentiment, but the girl is wearing boots, which is a type of shoe Monica loves and wears often.

I love the phrases that are part of Simon Says Stamp You Matter Background. I stamped it on some cardstock using a light gray ink and then die cut it with a scalloped rectangle and adhered it to a burgundy cardbase. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back of the image before adhering it to the cardbase. The word “amazing” is used several times in the background stamp and so I pulled out the Frantic Stamper Amazing die and cut it from silver mirror cardstock and white sticky back foam. It was adhered at the bottom of the card front with liquid glue. The secondary sentiment were stamped onto burgundy cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed silver. They were cut into thin strips with a Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Label die and adhered using foam tape. The final embellishment was to add Ranger Silver Stickles to the button on the cuffs and at her ears for earrings.

I hope it brings a smile to her face.

Have a Musically Wonderful Birthday Ann

We have a young woman in our church who is a very talented violinist.  She has competed in Europe, as well as Carnegie Hall.  When I saw this cute Girl with Violin from Polka Doodles I knew it would make the perfect card for Ann.

I printed the image on Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with a laser printer.  This ensures that the lines will not bleed when coloring with Copic Markers.  Colors of markers used were: E11, E01, E000, R20; E49, E59, E37; E59, E35, E34, E33, E42; C0, C1; B000, B0000.  Once the coloring was complete a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle was used to die cut the image.

The sentiment from Penny Black’s Sprinkles & Smiles was stamped on the bottom of the focal image rectangle with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

A rectangle of blue cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger and adhered to the back of the focal image rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut the same size as the MFT rectangle and adhered to the back for added dimension.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from 120# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.
