Three Big Candles

This is the second card made using the Sarah Bailey Candles Silhouette Design.  This time only the three large candles were used.  The top layer of the candles were cut from scrap of cardstock and the bottom layer, wick, and flame were cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  They were adhered together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  In inside flame was colored with Copic Marker YR24.

To assemble the card a rectangle was cut using the My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangles and a 1/8” larger rectangle was cut from scrap red cardstock and adhered to the back with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut using the MFT Wonky Rectangle Die and adhered to the back of the panel with Tombo Multi Medium Matte.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the candle to add dimension.  The candles were placed on the Wonky Rectangle to determine where to stamp the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Brush Stroke Messages with VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The candles were then adhered to the front of the rectangle by removing the backer paper from the foam tape.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Wonky Birthday Cake I

The Silhouette Miss Kate Cuttables Birthday Cake image create a fun and funky birthday cake that is great for masculine card.  The cake was cut from scrapes of brown cardstock.  The platter and candle base and flames were cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  The frosting was cut from scraps of a light orange/dark yellow cardstock.  Copic Markers were used to add shadows and dimension to the elements.

A rectangle of plaid cardstock was cut using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes from Lawn Fawn’s Perfectly Plaid Rainbow 6 x 6 Paper Pad.  Darice Sticky Foam Tape was added to the back.  It was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The sentiment was stamped on the lower tier of the cake with VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.

The layers of cake and frosting were adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then 3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back for dimension.  The platter was adhered using the same glue and then the cake was added to the top.  The candles were tucked behind the top cake layer.  The focal image was then adhered to the plaid rectangle.

I felt that the card needed a little more color and interest and so Nuvo Crystal Drops in Caribbean Ocean, Bottle Green, Crushed Grape, Ripened Pumpkin were added to the frost as if candies had been sprinkles on the top.

Happy Birthday Cupcake

For the masculine cards I made in October I used a lot of Silhouette Designs.  For this card is pulled the PPbN Designs Pink Sprinkled Cake, but the great thing about silhouette files is you can make the designs any color you desire.

Who doesn’t love chocolate cake, and in a cupcake you can indulge and enjoy.  This has lots of blue frosting, with candy sprinkles from using Mikuki Seed Beads Lagoon Mix.

The base of the cupcake was cut from scraps of brown cardstock.  Shading and dimension was added using Copic Markers.  The Frosting was cut from scrap of light aqua cardstock.  Copic Markers were also used to add shading and dimension and then the seed beads were added using Ranger Multi Medium Matt.

From my stash of cardstock scraps a piece of dark teal cardstock was used to cut a rectangle using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to the front of an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.

The Papertrey Ink Wonderful Words Birthday Die was cut from the same light aqua cardstock and then shading was added to the bottom with Copic Markers.

The cupcake top and bottom was adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and 3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back.  The cupcake and the die cut “birthday” were placed on the card front to determine where to place the secondary sentiment from Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy, which was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  Then the cupcake and “birthday” word were adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Mirror Balloon Birthday Cards

I thought the balloons with cutout shapes from the Silhouette Designs Miss Kate Cuttables Assorted Balloons would a little like Mylar balloons if backed with Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  It comes with circles, hearts, and stars, but I wanted one with the tassels that are at the top of a party hat, so I also used the Basic Grey Party Hat for one of the balloon in this card.

My son Patrick loves black and grey, so for his birthday I decided to cut the top layer of the balloon from some Recollections Essentials 6 x 6 Paper Pad Black Cardstock.  The balloon base and strings were cut from the mirror cardstock.  I loved the way they turned out.

I die cut the Mama Elephant Birthday Script Die from the same mirror cardstock and three times from the black.  They were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive, offsetting the gold on the black just a little.

I had seen Carissa Wiley used a strip of cardstock that she had created with a diagonal strip stamp.  I decided to use the Simon Says Stamp Diagonal Stripes Background Stamp, stamping it on Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and heat emboss it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I cut a 1” strip and glued it to the left of an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  A rectangle was cut from the same cardstock 4 x 5 ½”.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back to add dimension and then glued to the front of the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The balloons and birthday word cutout were placed on this rectangle to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment from Winnie & Walter Sentimental Birthday with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  The back balloon was adhered directly to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the second balloon.  The “birthday” die cut was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte, which was also used to adhere the balloon strings and the card was done.

I love the way this card turned out so much that I decided to create it again using Navy Cardstock and a little different design. This is the second card that I created using the Silhouette Designs Miss Kate Cuttables Assorted Balloons.  For this card I used Navy Cardstock, along with gold polka dot cardstock from Echo Park Dots & Stripes.  A rectangle of navy cardstock 1/8” larger than the polka dot paper was added to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then glued to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with the same glue.  The top and bottom layers of the balloons were adhered together with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  One balloon was adhered to the gold polka dot cardstock with the same adhesive and the second balloon was adhered using 3M ½” Foam Tape.

The sentiment from Papertrey Ink Inside & Out Birthday was stamped with VersaMark Ink on a strip of navy cardstock and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back and adhered to the lower third of the card over the balloon strings.

Cutouts from the navy balloon top layers were used as embellishments and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

The Story of Fall Happy Birthday Banner Card

When I was going through my patterned paper I ran across this pretty woodgrain paper from the Echo Park 6 x 6 Paper Pad by Lori Whitlock – The Story of Fall, which had a small printed banner and decided it would make a great card.

I originally die cut it using the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Using my Silhouette I cut some additional banners with the word “HAPPY” cut out of some scraps of solid cardstock.  When I went to place them on the card, the letters just didn’t stand out enough on the card, so I die cut some matching banners without the letters from another patterned paper from the paper pad and glue it behind the letter banners and that made them pop.  I wanted a large “Birthday” word die and could find anything I liked, so I decided to use Papertrey Ink’s Text Block Birthday Horizontal and fussy cut just the work “Birthday” from the sentiment and adhered it under the word banners with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I felt there was too much dead space on the card front and so I decided to make it a square card.  I cut down the rectangle to be 3 ¾” square.  Another 4” square was cut from the red cardstock and the two were glued together using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  A 4 3/16” square cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Silhouette Stacked Birthday Cake

This wonky birthday cake image is the Silhouette Miss Kate Cuttables Birthday Cake.  I have a lot of stamps and dies, but I had forgotten what great cards can be made using the Silhouette.

I cut the image using scraps of Brown, Green, Orange, and Red Textured Cardstock for the cake, platter base, and candle bases.  Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was used for the candle flames and decorative lines, along with the platter.

Copic Markers were used to add shading to the cake image, as well as making the inner flame pieces a darker gold color.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Circle die cut once from the gold mirror cardstock and two more times from yellow cardstock.  It was cut in half to create an arch rather than a circle.  The layers were adhered together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive.

The largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle was used to die cut a piece of My Minds Eye 6 x 6 Wood Designer Paper.  A piece of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the cake and adhered to the woodgrain paper.  The sentiment was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

Five Candle Cutout Happy Birthday

I found a Silhouette image from Sarah Bailey entitled Candles and thought it could make a great masculine card.  Of course most the cards I make for men can also be used for female cards as well.

I cut the base of the candles and the flames from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  The patterned fronts of the candles were cut from scraps of cardstock.  They were then adhered together using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  For the center of the flames Copic Markers YR24 and YR18 were applied to make them look deeper and brighter in hue.  3M ½” foam tape was added to the back of each candle to add dimension.

To give the candles something to stand on I used the Lawn Fawn’s Happy Happy Happy die and partially cut it so that I could create a small strip of gold cardstock at the top.  Thin strips of 3M ½” Foam Tape were added to the back so that it would have the same dimension as the candles.

A side folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  Before adhering the sentiment die, the secondary sentiment from Hero Arts Birthday Messages was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The backing paper was removed from the foam tape and sentiment and candles were adhered to the card front and the card was done.

Silhouette Paper Piecing Birthday Cake

This is another masculine birthday card made with a Silhouette image and paper piecing of different cardstock from the Papermania Capsule Collection – Spots & Stripes Jewel 6 x 6 Paper Pack and scraps of solid color cardstock.

The frosting cutouts were adhered to the cake layer using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  3M Foam Tape was then added to the back of the cake to add dimension and interest to the card.  The confetti was scattered around the focal image and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  To change the background color of the patterned paper Memento Toffee Crunch Ink was blended to change it to a cream color.

The sentiment was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa Ink using the MISTI to the bottom of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs Ivory Cardstock.  To separate the sentiment from the focal image the ScorBuddy was used to add three score lines.

Platinum Stickles was added to the stars at the top of the candles and Clear Wink of Stella was added to all the stars and the card was done.

Silhouette Birthday Cupcake

I think simple birthday images made great masculine birthday cards.  I decided to pull out some of my patterned paper and use my Silhouette to cut some birthday images.  This card is made using Papermania Capsule Collection 6 x 6 Cardstock for the patterned paper and Recollections Essentials 6 x 6 Cardstock for the accents.  The Silhouette images use are PPBN Designs Delicious Cupcake and Miss Kate Cutables Birthday Cake for the confetti.

A rectangle of Recollections Essential Red Cardstock was die cut using My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangles.  The background of the patterned paper was white and I decided to use some Memento Toffee Crunch to ink blend the paper so that it was a cream color instead.  The edges of the red rectangle were also ink blended with the same ink.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the frosting and everything else was adhered to the red rectangle with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn Party Animals and was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black using the MISTI. Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents was used for the dots on the frosting and the platter.

Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Rainbow Ink Blended Masculine Birthday Cards II

I had a little more of the rainbow ink blended cardstock left and so I decided to make another couple of cards.  This time I wanted to see what rainbow letters would look like on black cardstock, and I love the way it turned out.  The second card uses gold mirror cardstock behind the negative word cutout.

For the first card a horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock.  To add interest to the front of the card a rectangle of black cardstock was cut using the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle and then Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was cut 1/8″ larger.  The two were adhered together with Scor Tape.

The Silhouette cut letters are Franklin Gothic Heavy Font at 138.5 pt, stretched to be a little taller and cut from leftover rainbow ink blended cardstock.  The letters were applied to the black rectangle using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  The easiest way to align them is to use the negative cutout for placement.  The secondary sentiment is from the Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake stamp set, stamped with VersaMark Ink, and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The focal rectangle was adhered to the black cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The second card uses the negative space of the rainbow ink blended cardstock cutout.  A strip of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock cut 1/4″ taller than the letters was added to the back with 3M 1/2″ foam tape cut to go around the letters and give them dimension and support.  The secondary sentiment is from the Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake stamp set, stamped with VersaMark Ink, and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.

A rectangle of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock was die cut using the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered to the back.  The word strip was adhered to the white rectangle with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  A horizontal A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal rectangle was glued to the cardbase using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.
