Brush Stroke Messages Diagonal Background Birthday Card

This card was also inspired by Nina-Marie Trapani.  I stamped the longer brush strokes from the Simon Says Stamp Brush Stroke Messages on a diagonal using light and dark blue, with a splash of yellow in the narrowest brush stroke.  I used the same colors to stamp three balloons from My Favorite Things Party Balloon stamp and die.

To ensure that the sentiment strip would match the card, I used the darkest ink and ran it across a scrap of white cardstock.  I waited for it to be complete dry before stamping the sentiment from My Favorite Things Twice the Wishes with VersaMark Ink and heat embossing it with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.

Once all the design elements were completed the striped paper was die cut using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of two of the balloons and white DFN Craft Thread was tied to each balloon. The balloons were adhered to the stripped panel and the balloon strips were wrapped around the bottom of the rectangle and adhered with scotch tape.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the sentiment strip and it was adhered to the bottom of the focal image.

The entire panel was adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the card was done.

Brush Stroke Birthday Messages I, II, III

This card was inspired by a card by Kristina Werner.  I made three separate cards with different color palettes.  I used two of the stamps from Simon Says Stamp Brush Stroke Messages used Altenew Inks to stamp and stack them in a horizontal column.  For each color used it was stamped full strength and again as second generation stamping for a lighter hue.

The sentiment was stamped on the darkest stroke.  Once the stamping was complete the panel was die cut using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.  A complimentary rectangle was cut from scrap cardstock 1/8” larger and adhered to the back with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut with the same rectangle die and adhered to the back of the focal image panel.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the  focal image was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

I really like the graphic element to this card and create it another two time in different color palettes.

Cupcake Shaker Card

I wanted to make a shaker card for a masculine birthday card and decided to use the Simon Says Stamp Tri Square Die and cut it twice from a rectangle of Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock.  I then die cut the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundles of Stitched Shapes.  A rectangle of acetate was cut 1/8” smaller than the die cut rectangle and adhered to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Next 3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the panel creating six different wells around the six square openings.

Three cupcakes from the Silhouette Designs File by Alaa’ K called Yummy Cupcake Set were sized so they would fit in a square opening and then print and cut the using the Silhouette Cameo.

The rectangle was placed on the front of an A2 top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock to determine where to stamp the sentiment for Simon Says Stamp Square Sayings with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  Sequins from Neat & Tangled Starry Night were piled in the appropriate locations and then the card front was adhered cardbase using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  The three cupcakes were adhered to the remaining three square opening with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  To add a little more added interest Martha Stewart Turquois Confetti were scattered on the front of the card front and adhered with the same Multi Medium Matte glue and the card was done.

Elizabeth Background Birthday Card I, II, and III

I recently purchased Simon Says Stamp Elizabeth Background Stamp.  It is a beautiful, detailed medallion stamp.  It was stamped three times onto Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and then heat embossed with Hero Arts Ultra Fine Clear Embossing Powder.

I decided to color the images with both Copic Markers and Spectrum Noir Markers.  You have to be very careful with coloring with alcohol markers on images with embossing powder since can ruin the nibs of the markers.

This first image was stamped with Copic Markers: Y00, Y04, Y06 / YG51, YG53, G94 / RV11, RV13, RV14 / R39, RV69 / BG18, BG15 / G46, G29.  Once the coloring was completed it was die cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and adhered to the back of the focal image with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was die cut with the same rectangle die and adhered to the back of the focal image.

The sentiment is from Gina K. Designs Grand Greetings and was stamped on a strip of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back and then the sentiment was adhered to the lower rectangle of the focal image panel.

The focal image panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

VThis second card made with Simon Says Stamp Elizabeth Background Stamp was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers: IG1, IG2 / DR1, DR5 / PP3, PP5 / CG2, DG3 / TB3.  This time the focal image was die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Everything else with the card was assembled the same as the last one.

Stitched Leaves Birthday Card

I love these beautiful leaves from the Gina K. Designs Stitched Leaves stamp set.  When I was searching through my patterned paper for other cards I ran across this one from the Echo Park 6 x 6 Lori Whitlock the Story of all and decided to use it as the color pallet for the leaves.

I stamped the leaves with Gina K. Designs Ink: Cherry Red, Tomato Soup, Prickly Pear, and Warm Cocoa.  For the second layer I decided to use Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I stamped the detailed layer stamp with VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed the gold embossing powder.  It makes a very elegant looking leaf.  They were then die cut with the coordinating dies.

I had this golden modern chevron circle left over from another card and thought it would create neutral background for the leaves.  I stamped the arched sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Best Ever stamp set with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with the Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I die cut a circle from Darice Sticky Back Foam and trimmed it down to be slightly smaller and adhered it to the back of the patterned paper circle.

The patterned paper for Lori Whitlock’s The Story of Fall was die cut using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle and adhered directly to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  The chevron circle was then adhered to the front of this panel with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The leaves were then adhered with the same glue, with the exception of the large red maple leaf, which was applied using 3M ½” Foam Tape.

I felt that the card needed a little division from the upper leaves portion and the bottom of the card and so I strip of yellow cardstock was cut and adhered using a thin strip of 3M foam tape.  As a final embellishment, I remember that I had some leaf brads left over from my scrapbooking days and adhered it to the left of the gold strip of paper with Memory Box Glue Dots and the card was done.

Bouquet of Thanks Celebration Card

I recently purchased Simon Says Stamp Bouquet of Thanks and decided to watercolor the image.  I stamped it on Canson XL Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles and was stamped and embossed in the same manner.

Winsor & Newton Artist Grade Watercolor pans were used to color the image.  Colors used were: 0210 Cadmium Yellow, 0250 Cadmium Orange, 0320 Scarlet Pink, 1560 Hooker’s Green, Cerulean Blue, Turquoise Light.  I let everything thoroughly dry and then added some shadows with a fine detail watercolor brush.

The watercolored panel was then die cut using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  A slightly larger rectangle was cut with a guillotine paper cutter out of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and adhered to the back of the watercolored panel with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  As a final embellishment Pretty Pink Posh Sugar Plum Mix Sequins were adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Happy Birthday to You

For this card a panel of Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock was ink blended using Distress Oxide Inks Fossilized Amber, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Peacock Feathers.  I used a Marvy Embossing Heat Tool to help the ink completely dry before attempting to add the white embossing powder.

I started by stamping the angled hash striped border to the bottom third of the card from Mama Elephant’s Basic Borders Stamp with Versa Mark Ink.  I then stamped the sentiment from Gina K. Designs Grand Greetings with VersaMark Ink and then heat set it with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder. I felt like there was too much space between the striped border and the sentiment, so I pulled out Simon Says Stamp’s Jumbo Stripes stamp set and used the three lines border stamp, stamping it with Versa Mark Ink just below the sentiment and again below the striped border with Versa Mark Ink and heat set it with the white embossing powder. I like this much better, but I felt there was too much empty space at the top of the card, so I pulled out the balloon from the Clearly Besotted It’s Your Birthday stamp set and stamped it three times in the upper right of the card with VersaMark Ink and heat set it with the white embossing powder and felt like it finished the card.

I really like how the white embossing stands out on the ink blended background.  I die cut the ink blended panel using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller and adhered to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Party Circle Die: Enjoy Your Day

The Distress Oxide Ink blended background really makes the white die cut sentiment of this card pop.

I ink blended a panel of Neena Solar White 80# Cardstock with Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Inks.  Using my guillotine cutter it was cut down 4 1/8” to 5 3/8” and Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut to 4 x 5 ¼” and applied to the back.

Simon Says Stamp Large Party Circle Die was cut out of the same cardstock.  A circle was cut from some scrap acetate using Simon Says Stamp Nested Circle Die and adhered to the back of the sentiment die with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  Thin strips of 3M ½” Foam Tape were doubled up and adhered to the back of the “Party” die cut.  If you remove the backer tape you can curve the foam tape around the circle.  Neat & Tangled Starry Night Sequins and Martha Stewart Blueberry Slush, Turquoise, and Wintermint Confetti were added to front of the cardbase and then the “Party” shaker well was adhered to the top of the ink blended rectangle.

A secondary sentiment from Hero Arts Birthday Messages was stamped below the shaker with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The ink blended panel was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Balloon Bouquet Hooray It’s Your Birthday

I have seen a card made by Laura Bassen where she used watercolor paper to add color behind each of the balloons in the Simon Says Stamp Balloon Bouquet.  I have recreated that card in the past.  This time I wanted to try using Oxide Inks and sponge daubers to add color to the balloons.

I cut a rectangle of Neena Solar White 80# White Cardstock using the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  I then die cut the balloons from the same cardstock four times and adhered them together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive Spray.  I then would hold the balloon bouquet over the die cut rectangle to determine where to add the ink.

I used the same ink and daubers on a scrap of white cardstock to create a rainbow strip of color that I then used to die cut the Mama elephant Hooray Script Die from.  I cut an additional three word dies from white cardstock and adhered them together with the spray adhesive.  The secondary sentiment from Gina K. Designs Birthday Greetings was stamped on a scrap of black cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam Sheet was cut 1/8” smaller than the stitched rectangle and adhered to the back.  The balloon bouquet and the sentiment cutout were adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the secondary sentiment was adhered using 3M ½” Foam Tape.  The focal image was then adhered to the card front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Silhouette Stacked Birthday Cake

This wonky birthday cake image is the Silhouette Miss Kate Cuttables Birthday Cake.  I have a lot of stamps and dies, but I had forgotten what great cards can be made using the Silhouette.

I cut the image using scraps of Brown, Green, Orange, and Red Textured Cardstock for the cake, platter base, and candle bases.  Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was used for the candle flames and decorative lines, along with the platter.

Copic Markers were used to add shading to the cake image, as well as making the inner flame pieces a darker gold color.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Circle die cut once from the gold mirror cardstock and two more times from yellow cardstock.  It was cut in half to create an arch rather than a circle.  The layers were adhered together using Elmer’s Glue Craft Adhesive.

The largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle was used to die cut a piece of My Minds Eye 6 x 6 Wood Designer Paper.  A piece of Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back.  It was then adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the cake and adhered to the woodgrain paper.  The sentiment was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.
