With Sympathy (Power Poppy Tulips)

I love this digital image from Power Poppy entitled Tulips in a Hobnail Pitcher.  I can upload it into my Silhouette Cameo and do a print and cut on any paper that I want.  For this card I used Canson 90# Cold Press Watercolor paper.

I wanted the pitcher in the image to appear to be copper.  I recently purchased the FineTec Watercolor Gold set and decided to use the 620 Inka-Gold color.  It is more copper in hue than the photograph depicts, and the metallic shine is truly beautiful.  I painted the tulips and leaves with colors from Winsor & Newton’s Artist Grade 24 Half Pan Watercolor Set.

I like clean and simple cards, but dimension and interest can be added with embossing folders.  I ran a quarter sheet of Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock through the Big Shot with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  Next I ran that panel through the Big Shot with the Cuttlebug Polka Dot Embossing Folder.  This panel was adhered to a top folded A2 size cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock using a rectangle of Darice Adhesive Foam Sheets cut just smaller than the rectangle.

The sentiment is from the Clearly Besotted Fancy Sayings set.  A scrap of yellow/gold paper was used for the sentiment banner and the sentiment was stamped with Hero Hues Black Ink.  To tie in the gold/copper pitcher a slightly wider strip of mirror gold cardstock was adhered to the back of the sentiment with Be Creative Tape and then adhered directly to the embossed panel with the same tape.

The focal image was adhered to the front of the embossed panel using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and the card was done.

Sending You Prayers

It’s good to have some sympathy cards on hand for when they are needed. This card was made by cutting outline images to match Simon Says Stamp Spring Flowers from Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with the Silhouette Cameo.  I didn’t want to have harsh black lines for the flowers so I used Altenew Inks to stamp the images onto the cutout and then colored them with Copic Markers. Colors used for both are listed below.

A top folding card was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.  A rectangle of the same paper was cut using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Frames.  Darice Adhesive White Fun Foam was cut just smaller than the rectangle and adhered to the back and then adhered to the cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Blue.

The flowers were glued to the flower stems with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and arranged on the stitched rectangle.  The pink flower in the back and the stems were glued directly to the rectangle, with the exception of the stem at the front, which was adhered using thin strips of 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  Foam tape was also added to the back of blue flower and double foam tape was added to the back of the purple flower.  For the flowers that had centers Queen and Company Rock Candy Yellow Rhinestones were added.

The Hero Arts Prayers die was cut three times from Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and glued together with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. Before attaching the secondary sentiment “Sending You” was stamped with Hero Hues Black Ink.  The prayers die cut was adhered using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  For a little added shine Wink of Stella Clear was added to all the flowers and the card was done.

PENNY BLACK BOUQUET SYMPATHY CARD

Recently the mother of a friend of ours passed away.  In her obituary it specifically noted that her favorite color was purple, so I wanted to create a sympathy card with purple flowers.  I pulled out the Penny Black Centerpiece stamp set, it’s one of my favorites, and stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on an outline I had cut previously with my Silhouette Cameo from Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock.  I used Copic Markers to color the image, listed below are the colors used.

From purple cardstock I had in my stash I cut a rectangle using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts Prayers and was cut from the same purple cardstock three times and adhered together using Elmer’s Glue Adhesive Spray.  I then die cut a smaller rectangle from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  The focal image and prayers cutout were placed on the white rectangle to determine where to stamp the secondary greetings, also from Hero Arts Prayers.  They were stamped with Altenew Deep Iris Ink.

The two rectangles were adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then adhered to the front of a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The focal image was adhered with 3M ½” Foam Tape and the sentiment cutout was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  To add a little more interest the to the front of the card purple sequins were used from Pretty Pink Posh Enchanted Garden Mix and the card was done

Sending Hugs & Prayers

This clean and simple card could be used for a sympathy card or just to give encouragement to someone who is having a hard time.

00164This is a simple card that doesn’t take very long to make.  I used my Inkadinkado Embossing Buddy to removing any oils from the Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper  prior to stamping the rose from Clearly Besotted Happy Everything Stamp with VersaMark Ink.  Next I embossed the image with Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.  Embossing the image makes watercoloring quick and easy as it ensures the color stays within the raised lines.

For my palette I have a piece of white cardstock that I have laminated.  Using my mini Distress Ink pads I smooshed some Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive onto the palette.  I applied the color with my Kuretake Waterbrush.

Once the watercolor panel was completely dry I ran it through my Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Because I was stamping on watercolor paper I stamped the sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Friendship Blooms Sentiment Stamp using my MISTI so I could stamp multiple time for a clear impression.

I applied the focal image with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to a Top Folding Gina K. Designs 120# White card base, cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″ and the card was done.

You’re In My Prayers

We all need sympathy cards at times and I like those that are simple and elegant.

The flowers in Altenew’s Beautiful Day Stamp are beautiful.  I stamped the image with VersaMark Ink on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and embossed it with Ranger’s Platinum Embossing Powder.  Be sure to prep the surface with an embossing buddy tool to ensure the powder only clings to the VersaMark ink.  To color the image I used Winsor & Newton Winsor Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Olive Green, keeping the colors light by diluting them with a lot of water.

Once the watercolor was completely dry I ran it through my Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  I cut a piece of Paper Accents Mirror Gold Paper slightly larger, which added a lovely accent to the edges of the focal piece and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

I then stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Prayers with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder.

All was adhered it to a cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and the card was done.
