Primary and Secondary Colors Happy Birthday Candles

I think candles make great masculine birthday cards, this one uses the primary and secondary color palette.  I stamped the different candles with Gina K. Designs ink and then colored them with Copic Markers.  I think it made a bright and colorful card.

I’ve had this cross-stitched rectangle die for years and rarely use it, but I really like it for masculine cards.  Since the sentiment die cut is from black cardstock I decided to mat the rectangle with black cardstock as well and like the way it tied everything together.

The More Candles the Bigger the Wish Birthday Card

The Online Card Class Introduction to Color Theory has not only changed how I watercolor, but it has changed how I select colors for inks and Copic Markers.  This card uses analogous colors, which are side by side on a color wheel.  Once you understand the theory you can see how it is used in patterned papers, which inspire a color palette for a card.  I must have been in a blue, green, yellow mood because a lot of my cards lately have used this color scheme.

This is a digital image from Power Poppy that was printed and then cut using the Silhouette Cameo.  Copic Markers were used to color the image and 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back for dimension.

Alcohol Ink Background Butterfly Frame Birthday

I created another card with an alcohol ink background made from blues and silver mixative.  I had a small panel leftover and decided to use it to create another card.  I love when you can get two cards from one background.  I had purchased this butterfly frame a while ago from China.  It is interesting that when you purchase from there you usually aren’t give the name of the company who created it, so I just always note where I purchased it.  It is a pretty frame.

I die cut the leftover alcohol ink background using a My Favorite Things Wonky Rectangle.  I used the second largest size and it was perfect to allow the beautiful background colors to surround the die cut butterfly frame.  I cut the butterfly frame three time from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and adhered them together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive.  The same adhesive was used to spray the back and adhere it to the alcohol ink rectangle.

I originally cut the sentiment from Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock and stamped the secondary word from Winnie & Walter Sentimental Birthday with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Detail Silver Embossing Powder.  I wasn’t happy with the way it looked, I felt it got lost on the background and so I cut the Technique Tuesday Say It Happy Die an additional two times from some Neena cardstock and adhered them over the silver “happy” cutout using spray adhesive.  I couldn’t do anything about the silver embossed word, but I felt that the sentiment looked better in white.

A side folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the focal image alcohol ink panel, but when I went to place it on the card front I felt it was too small, so I added a border of silver cardstock and thought that it looked much better.

Blowing Birthday Wishes Your Way

I decided to create a card with a row of candles from Technique Tuesday Many Candles stamped in rainbow colors.  I like the way it turned out.

I stamped the images with Distress Oxide Inks: Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Fired Brick/Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Fossilized Amber, Wild Honey4, R22; YR15, YR12; Y02, Y01; YR04, Y38, Y15.  I pulled out my Copic Markers to add some dimension to the edges (YG03, YG01; BG13, BG11; V17, V15, V12; RV13, RV11, RV10; R24, R22; YR15, YR12; Y02, Y01; YR04, Y38, Y15).

I used the PIXScan Mat and the Silhouette Cameo to cut around the candles so that I could pop them up using 3M 1/2″ Scotch Tape.  I die cut a rectangle from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock using a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle.  I arranged the candles on the rectangle to determine where to stamp the sentiment, which is from My Favorite Things Make a Wish with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

Darice Sticky Back Foam was added to the back of the rectangle and it was adhered to a side folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the card was done.

Fall Rose Bouquet Birthday

When I saw Gina K. Designs Rose Bouquet Stamp I really like the image, but when I got it in the mail it was smaller than I thought it would be.  An easy way to make a small image take center stage is to cut a rectangle just larger than the image and then back it was a different colored frame.

For this card I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and then die cut a rectangle using a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and the two were adhered together using Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.  The black border really draws the eye to the focal image.

The sentiment is from Technique Tuesday Cosmos and was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black in the lower left of the focal image panel.

I used fall colors for the flowers.  Copic Markers: Copic Markers: R08, R05, R22; YR16, YR14, YR12; YR18, YR16, YR12; YG97, YG95, YG9.  Light blue markers were added for a sky effect (B0000, B000).

Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut with the same Simon Says Stamp rectangle die and adhered to the back of the focal image.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

Hero Arts Artistic Dahlia Happy Birthday

This flower from Hero Arts is really unique.  It comes with the stamp and die, but there are multiple layers to the die which gives added dimension to the image.  I stamped the image four times with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored them all with Copic Markers: R08, R05, R22; YG97, YG95, YG93.  Next I used the dies to cut different portions of the flower and layered them together using foam squares.  This adds a lot of dimension to the image and it really pops from the page.

To assemble the card I created a top folding A2 cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot using the Cuttlebug Charles Embossing Folder.  I really like the look of the dotted chevron in this folder.  I die cut a white frame using My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle Frame from Neena Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock and cut a rectangle just larger than the opening from the same cardstock.  It was here that the sentiment from Technique Tuesday Cosmos was stamped with Hero Hues India Ink Black.  Strips of 3M ½” Foam Tape were cut in half and added to the back of the frame.  The sentiment rectangle was adhered to the back of the frame.  It was then adhered to the front of the cardbase with Kokuyo Dotliner Adhesive.

3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of the flower image, only to the areas that were unobstructed by the frame, and then adhered to the lower left corner of the card front.  I really like the crisp, clean look to this card.

My Best Friend Birthday I and II

Clearly Besotted’s My Best Friend has a beautiful spray of three flower that made a love card.  I decided to create two different cards, one using Altenew Inks: Sea Breeze, Turquoise, Tide Blue; and the second using Altenew Inks: Pink Diamond, Pinkalicious, and Rubellite.  Different green Altenew inks were used for each arrangement.

I decided to keep the design clean and simple, using a couple of My Favorite Things Frames to cause the flower arrangements to pop from the page.

I stamp and die cut the floral and leaf images and set them aside.  For the first card I die cut a rectangle frame using My Favorite Things Pierced Rectangle Frame and cut down 3M ½” Foam Tape so that it was narrow enough to be added to the back of the fame and not be seen.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the rectangle frame was added to the center to determine where to stamp the sentiment, which is from Technique Tuesday’s Cosmos Stamp set with Hero Hues India Ink Black.

Next the front of the card was run through the Big Shot using the Darice Basketweave Embossing Folder.  The backing paper was removed from the rectangle frame and adhered to the card front.  3M ½” Foam Tape was added to the back of flowers and leaves so that they would lay flat on the surface of the card and voila, the card was done.

CARD TWO

The second card was done in the same manner, however, for this card the My Favorite Things Stitched Oval Frame was used.  The sentiment is from Mama Elephant’s Make a Wish and was stamped in the center of the oval with Hero Hues India Ink Black and then dry embossed using the Cuttlebug Oxford Embossing Folder.  The flowers were arrangement in the lower left of the oval, adhered with 3M Foam Tape and Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.
