Penny Black Swinging Valentine’s Day Card

I don’t know what it is about the cute girl and boy images from Penny Black but I really like them.  The Swinging stamp set was perfect for a Valentine’s Day card for Michael.  I am so grateful I get to sit beside this wonderful man who makes every day better in my life.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock.  Since there isn’t a matching die I decided to try the Silhouette Cameo PixScan Mat to cutout the image and it worked perfectly. I colored the image with the following Copic Markers: R29, R27, R24; E55, E59, E49; E50, E53, E35; E00, E01, E11; B26, B24, B23; B32, B34, B95; G24, G99; E55, E57, E59 (wood), B000, B0000.

I wanted a sky background behind the image so I used some Canson Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper and die cut it using the Avery Elle Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.   I applied Distress ink onto a smooth surface and using the wet on wet method dropped the following colors; Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Faded Blue Jeans, to create the sky.

I die cut Hero Arts Love from red cardstock and coated it with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder and added Recollection Clear Embossing Powder.  It did this several times.  You can create a similar look using Glossy Accents, but I prefer the smooth look of multi layers of embossing powder.

I placed both the focal image and sentiment die on the sky background to determine placement for the secondary sentiment.  I prepped the area with an anti static pad and stamped the sentiment from Avery Elle Simply Said: Love set with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder and added Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder, heat setting it with the Marvy Embossing Tool.

It was now time to assemble the card.  To add a splash of color and help the focal image panel stand out I die cut a rectangle of red cardstock with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes rectangle.  I glued it to the watercolored background with the strong adhesive from the 3M ATG gun.  Both were glued to a top folding cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The focal image was added to the watercolor panel using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  Four more “love” dies were cut with heavy weight white cardstock. Since the top of the “l” would rest on the focal image the top of the letter was removed with scissors to ensure it would lay flat on the panel. These were adhered together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and applied to the watercolor panel with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  Glossy Accents were applied to the small hearts in the image and the card was done.

Nuts About You Valentine’s Day Card

This Valentine’s Day card was made with my daughter Aimee and her family in mind.  She has four amazing, wonderful, smart kids and I wanted them to remember how much I loved them.  I thought the My Favorite Things Nuts About You stamp and die set would be perfect.

I found the wood grain paper from Around the Block Ash Filigree paper pack and die cut it using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes rectangle.  Next, I die cut three hearts from red cardstock that I had in my stash of papers with the Spellbinders Heart dies.  On one of the hearts I stamped the sentiment from My Favorite Things Nuts About You with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink.  I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment since it was textured cardstock and I wanted a clean, crisp image.  I covered the sentiment with Gina K. Designs Detailed White Embossing Powder and heat set it using the Marvy Embossing Tool.

I stamped the cute squirrel and acorn on Gina K. Designs 80# White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with the following Copic Markers: W2, W3, W4, W5, R20; R27, R22, YR24; E30, E33, E35/E55, E57, E59

It was not time to assemble the card.  I placed the red hearts on the wood grain panel.  The two side hearts where adhered with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the center heart with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape for dimension.  The squirrel was placed on the right heart since it was facing left and the acorn on the left heart using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  I like the card, but it needed something more so I stamped some smaller acorns from the Simon Says Stamp Nutty Over You stamp set and fussy cut them using scissors and scattered them on the hearts.  It still needed something more and since I had been using the Impression Obsession Heart of Hearts die on a previous card I die cut it again from a scrap of red cardstock and scattered them around the card front and that was just what it needed.

The side folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock, but when I went to place the wood grain panel I felt it needed a little pop of color and so I cut a panel of red cardstock 1/8″ larger than the wood grain panel and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then using the same glue adhered them both to the cardbase and the card was done.

Impression Obsession Heart of Hearts Valentine’s Day Card

This Valentine’s Day Card was made for my daughter Janae.  Her favorite colors are Turquoise, Teal, and Purple.  I thought that the Impression Obsession Heart of Hearts die would make a pretty card using all those colors.  Placing the different colored hearts took quite a bit of time, but I really like the way it turned out.

I started by cutting two circles using My Favorite Things Pierced Circles STAX, one from a deep purple and another from a light turquoise.  I pulled the papers from my stash of scrap paper.  Next I die cut the purple circle with the Impression Obsession Heart of Hearts Die to form the base of my focal image.  I covered the light turquoise circle completely with 3M ATG Adhesive, which provided a sticky surface for placing all the multi-colored hearts.  I then cut Heart of Hearts die from a light turquoise, deep teal, light purple and silver mirror cardstock and randomly placed them into the purple die cut heart.

The top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock, but I felt it was too stark for the purple heart so I raided my paper stash and found a pretty light gray patterned paper from Around the Block called Ash Filigree.  This is cardstock I’ve had for years and so it probably isn’t available anymore, but anything similar would work.  I die cut the patterned paper using Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and adhered it to the cardbase with Darice Adhesive Fun Foam to add some dimension.  I added more fun foam to the purple heart and adhered it towards the top of the cardbase.

The sentiment is from the Pink & Main Love die, cut from Paper Accents Silver Mirror Cardstock.  I placed it on the card to determine where to stamp the secondary sentiment from Avery Elle Simply Said: Love with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink and covered it with Ranger Silver Embossing Powder.  I die cut four more “Love” dies from heavy weight white cardstock.  Since the “L” would be resting on the purple heart I marked the die cuts where they would need to have that part of the letter removed and adhered them together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Adhesive Spray and then adhered them to the card front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.

Heart of Roses Valentine’s Day

I really love the Simon Says Stamp Heart of Roses die and decided to use it for a Valentine’s Day card this year cutting it from mirror cardstock.  I think it has an elegant look to it.

I began by watercoloring a background with Distress Inks: Picked Raspberry, Aged Mahogany, Festive Berries; Candied Apple, Worn Lipstick on Canson Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper.  Once it was completely dried I ran it through the Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.

The Simon Says Stamp Heart of Roses die and Hero Arts Love and Hearts die were cut from Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock and then four more times from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  All were glued together using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive to provide dimension.  Since the Love die would rest on the heart I marked where it would rest and cut away the additional under layers so that it would rest flush on the heart die.

After determining the placement of both dies on the watercolor background a secondary sentiment from the Avery Elle Simple Said: Love set was stamped with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink and then covered with Ranger Super Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool.

A top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock.  Darice Adhesive Fun Foam was added to the back of the panel and adhered to the card with Tombo Mono Multi Glue, which give you a few second to move it around and ensure it is placed correctly on the cardbase.  The heart and sentiment dies were adhered using Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive and the card was done.

I like the look of it so much that I decided to recreate the card with Silver Mirror Cardstock and darker more burgundy colored background created with Winsor & Newton Alizarin Crimson, Permanent Rose; Ivory Black watercolor half pans.

This was was made for my son and daughter-in-law whose favorite color is burgundy and love silver more than gold.  For this card a silver mirror rectangle was cut with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Rectangle.

MFT Color Challenge 61: Love You

I’ve been wanting to participate in My Favorite Things Color Challenges for some time.  It always seems like I’m on a deadline for other cards I need to make, I’m out of town, or various other reasons why I don’t do it.  (Couldn’t be that it intimidates me have my work on display.)

This week’s challenge used coral, red persimmon, blue, and gray.  Since it is getting close to Valentine’s Day I decided to use the Heart of Heart die from Impression Obsession and fill the hearts will all the colors of the challenge.

I used scrap paper that I have in my stash and cut a circle from gray and blue cardstock using the third largest My Favorite Things Pierced Circle STAX.  I then placed the Heart of Heart die in the center of the gray circle and once it was cut I adhered it to the blue circle cut earlier for a backing to adhered all the colored hearts to.  I cut the Heart of Heart die from all the colors in the challenge and began filling in the heart openings, gluing them in place with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

For the card background I used My Favorite Things Chevron Coverup and cut it from blue cardstock.  I cut it again from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam and adhered it to the blue cardstock for added dimension.  I ink blended the edges with Distress Peacock Feathers ink and adhered it to a side folded cardbase made from 120# Gina K. Designs White Cardstock.

To adhere the focal image to the card I cut a circle from Darice Adhesive Fun Foam just smaller than colorful heart circle and glued it to the front of the card using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

For the sentiment I cut Hero Arts Love and Heart die from red cardstock six times.  Since the top of the “L” was going to lay on top of the focal image I cut off the loop so that it would lay flat on the circle.  The word “you” from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold, and Party stamp set was stamped with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink and then heat set with Gina K. Designs Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.  The word was cut into a narrow banner and adhered to the card front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.
