Peony Wishes Birthday Card

I recently saw the Gina K. Designs Peony Wishes stamp set and immediately went and purchased it.  It recently arrived and I decided to watercolor the image on Canson XL Cold Press 140# Watercolor Paper.  It was stamped with VersaMark Onyx Black In, and heat embossed with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder using the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

Winsor & Newton Artist Grade Watercolor Pans in Chinese White, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Winsor Red, Winsor Violet, and Winsor Orange were used to color the image.  Once it was dry Derwent Inktense Pencils 500 Chili Red, 520 Carmine Pink, 740 Mauve, 1510 Beech Green were used to add shadows to the image and blended out with a Dove Blending Pen.

The watercolored panel was then die cut using the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.  A slightly larger rectangle was cut with a guillotine paper cutter out of Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock and adhered to the back of the watercolored panel with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Birthday Messages and was stamped with VersaMark Ink on a scrap of black cardstock and heat embossed with Gina K. Designs Detail White Embossing Powder.  It was adhered to the bottom of the focal image using 3M ½” Foam Tape.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image panel was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  As a final embellishment Pretty Pink Posh Sugar Plum Mix and Sweetheart Mix, and Neat & Tangled Pink Lemonade were adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

Flower Bouquet It’s Your Birthday: Treat Yourself

I love stamp sets that have a cluster of three flowers and leaves.  When I saw the new Clearly Besotted Happily Ever After stamp set I knew it would make beautiful cards.

I began by stamping the image on Canson XL 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and then heat embossed it with the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool and Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  This makes watercoloring so easy since it creates little wells that will keep the watercolor contained into one area as you work.

To color the image I used Winsor & Newton Artist Grade Watercolors in Winsor Yellow, Winsor Orange, Winsor Red, Olive Green, and Permanent Sap Green, applied with a watercolor pen.  Once the watercoloring was dry I added shadows to the petals and leaves with Derwent Inktense Pencils 0210 Cadmium Yellow, 0250 Cadmium Orange, 0320 Scarlet Pink, 1560 Hooker’s Green, Cerulean Blue, Turquoise Light and blended them out with a Dove Blending Pen.

Using the MISTI I stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Birthday Messages with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink and heat set it with the Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The focal image was then run through the Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangle.  Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and adhered to the back using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then to the card front with the same glue.

Cupcake Trio Finetec Gold M600: It’s Your Day to Celebrate

I liked the way the The FineTec Gold M600 Watercolor Pans looked with a flower arrangement so much that I decided to look through my stamps to see what else had an open design that could be watercolored with this medium and found Whimsy Stamps Cupcake Treat Trio.  I love the sparkle and shine you get with these metallic watercolors, and the gold is beautiful on black cardstock.

I stamped the image on Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossed it using Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder, heat setting it with my Marvy Embossing Tool.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages and was stamped and embossed in the same manner.

The cupcakes were colored with 660 Sterling Silver for the cupcake liner, 620 Inka Gold for the cake, and 650 Luna Gold for the icing.  Once everything was dry the focal image was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.  A rectangle of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger with a Guillotine paper trimmer and adhered to the back of the focal image with Sookwang Be Creative Tape.  Darice Sticky Back Fun Foam was added to the back of the focal image to add dimension.

A side folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was attached using Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the card was done.  Love the way it turned out, and it could be used as either a masculine or feminine birthday card.

Penny Black Scented Beauty: Sparkle It’s Your Birthday

You can probably determine from the cards I have posted that I love Penny Black flower stamps.  They make beautiful cards and the open images are easy to color.  For this card I selected Scented Beauty and stamped it on Canson XL Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Black Ink and embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  The raised outlines of the embossing powder make it very easy to control where the watercolor goes.

I made two cards with the stamp, watercoloring them with slightly different reds.  Both were stamped on Canson XL Watercolor Paper with VersaFine Black Ink and embossed it with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder. Tombo Dual Brush Markers were used to color the images.

For this card I only used one marker for each color.  I would add the marker color at the base of each petel where it would be the darkest and then using a Sakura Waterbrush Pen I would pull the color out to the tip of the petal.  For the leaves I added the color to the base of the leaf and the veins pulled the color out with the waterbrush pen.  Quick and simple to do.

The blue background was done by scribbling the blue marker on an acrylic block, adding water to lighten the intensity and carefully adding it to focal image.  The raised surface of the embossed lines helps you to keep the colors from running together.

Once the image was completely dry it was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the focal image and adhered to the back.  A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered to the front with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles and was stamped in the lower left of the card with VersaMark Ink.  It was then embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Embossing Powder and heat set with the Marvy Embossing Tool.

As a final embellishment, Neat & Tangled Raspberry Mix Sequins were scattered around the focal image and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

PENNY BLACK FULL OF GLEE: TODAY IS ALL ABOUT CELEBRATING YOU!

For this card I decided to do a more traditional watercoloring of Penny Black’s Full of Glee.  It is amazing how one stamp, used in many different ways, can create beautiful and unique cards for those we love.

It was stamped on Canson XL Water Color Paper with VersaFine Black Ink and then heat embossed with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  I was thinking of my sister Colette when choosing the Tombo Markers for the image.  Her favorite color is blue and so the following colors were used: 515 Light Blue, 555 Ultramarine, 528 Navy Blue, 553 Peacock Blue, 491 Glacier Blue, and 158 Dark Olive.  I watered down the lightest blue for a background color to the image.

The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles and was stamped in the lower left corner with VersaFine Black Ink and heat embossed with Hero Arts Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.

When everything was complete dry I ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot with the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut 1/8” smaller than the focal image and adhered to the back.

An A2 top folding cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs Black Cardstock.  The focal image was adhered to the front using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  A few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh Seattle Mix and Doodlebug Designs Swimming Pool were adhered to the front of the card with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

I love the look of the white focal image on the black cardbase.

Penny Black Full of Glee: Watercolor Pearl Color Celebrate You

I loved the look of the FineTec Gold M600 Color Watercolor Pans on this image so much that I decided to create it again using Gansai Tambi Pearl Color Watercolor Pans.

My youngest sister’s birthday was coming up and her favorite color is blue and so I stamped the image on Gina K. Designs 120# In the Navy Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  I pulled out the Gansai Tambi Pearl Colors Watercolor Pans and used the 734 Pearl Pink, 762 Pearl Cobalt Blue, and 751 Pearl May Green pans to color the image.  It turned out beautiful.

I used the second largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles to die cut the image.  To accentuate the gold embossing Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger and both were adhered together using Sookwang Be Creative Tape.  I find this tape works best when working on the slick surface of mirror cardstock.

Neat & Tangled Celebrate was die cut with the mirror cardstock and an additional two times with scrapes of navy cardstock.  All were adhered together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The secondary sentiment from Winnie & Walter the Big, the Bold, and You stamp set was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  The “celebrate” die cut was adhered just above with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  As a final embellishment Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were adhered to the card front with the same glue and the card was done.

PENNY BLACK FULL OF GLEE: FINETEC GOLD M600 WATERCOLOR HAPPY EVERYTHING

I recently watched Amy Rysavy color Simon Says Stamp’s Bouquet of Thanks with metallic, pearl watercolors.  I hadn’t yet receive that stamp set and so I looked through the ones I had and thought that Penny Black’s Full of Glee could be used in a similar manner to create a beautiful, shimmery card.  I love the way it turned out, so beautiful on black cardstock.

I stamped the image from Penny Black’s Full of Glee on Gina K. Designs 120# Black Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossed it with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.  Then it was painted using FineTec Gold M600 Watercolor Pans.  I think I used nearly every color available in the set, except Inka Gold.

Once it was complete dry I ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot with the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.  A rectangled of Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock was cut 1/8” larger than the die cut focal image and adhered to the back with Zookwang Be Creative Tape.  A rectangle was die cut with the same Simon Says Stamp Rectangle out of Darice Sticky Back Foam Sheets and adhered to the back of the panel.

The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Awesome dies and was cut with the same Paper Accents Gold Mirror Cardstock.  It was cut agaoin from the same Darice Sticky Back Foam, but in hindsight I think it would have been better to cut it from black cardstock multiple times since you can see the white fun foam backing on the black.  The two dies cuts were adhered together and then Tombo Mono Multi Glue was added to the back to adhered the sentiment to the focal image.

A top folding A2 cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and the focal image was adhered using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  As a finishing embellishment, Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Sequins were scattered on the card front and adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.
