Masculine Birthday: Hey Stud

My father and mother were both school teachers and to supplement their income to support a family of eight during the summers my dad and mom would build homes to sell.  The handyman gene was passed down to a lot of people in my family.  I married a handyman and we built three houses when we were young from the ground up.  So, when I saw the cute tools patterned paper in the Paper Studio Glasses, Staches, & Tie paper pack I knew I needed to make a card.

00191I cut the patterned paper with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and applied it to a top fold cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″).

I fussy cut a hammer, wrench, and screw driver from the patterned paper and wanted to put them in a tool belt for the focal image.  I found Design ID #13262 in the Silhouette store and modified the image so that it only had one pocket and sized it to approximately 3″ x 2 1/4″.

I needed a sentiment that would go along with the theme.  If you have ever been in the process of building a home you know the 2″ x 4″ wood used to frame up walls is called a stud, and that term also means a good looking guy, so I added “HEY STUD” “Have a Tool’n Good Birthday!” underneath the tool belt and printed the design with my Silhouette Cameo on some Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.

Next I die cut the focal image with the second largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables, but when I placed it on the card it needed something more to make it stand out.  So, I added registration marks in the Silhouette software to print and cut the tool belt.  I cut a slit in the pocket with my X-acto Knife, tucked the tools inside the slit, and taped them in place on the back with Scotch Tape.  Then it was adhered over the first tool belt with some 3M 1/2″ foam tape and I liked it much better.  I then adhered the focal rectangle on the patterned paper with 3M 1/2″ foam tape and the card was done.

00191aI like to add some element of the card to the inside of the card, as well as the envelope as seen in the picture above.

I am a very blessed wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I firmly believe in the quote by Dieter F. Uchtdorf which states "The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human heart." Every day I try to create something that lifts the heart for myself and others.
