Masculine Birthday Card: I See You Have a Birthday

From the The Paper Studio Glasses, Staches, & Ties paper pack I die cut the glasses paper with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and adhered it with Tombo Dot Adhesive Stamp Runner to a side fold card base, made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock, cut to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″.

00188I die cut a piece of Gina K. Designs 100# Black Cardstock with the second largest Avery Elle Double Pierced Square.  I eliminated any static and oils with my EK Tools Embossing Powder prior to stamping the glasses and “I see you” sentiment from with VersaMark Ink.  I used several Winnie and Walter the Big the Bold stamps (Happy for y and a; Extra for have; Party for birthday) for the second line of the sentiment.  I covered the stamps with Ranger Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it with the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

I placed this panel on the patterned paper and felt that it needed something more to make it pop, so I stamped the Chevron Border from the same stamp set with VersaMark Ink on the left of the patterned paper, added gold embossing powder and heat set it.  This added that little extra that the card needed.  I adhered the black panel with Creative Hands Peel & Stick Foam Sheets for dimension and the card was done.

I like to add some element of the card to the inside of the card, as well as the envelope as seen in the picture above.

Masculine Birthday Card: In the Game of Life

I have a large family with lots of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and good friends, in fact I have 99 people on my birthday list, so I am constantly making birthday cards.  I find masculine birthday cards the hardest.  I naturally gravitate to flowers and pretty cards, but that just doesn’t work for guys.  So I put my thinking cap on and came up with several designs inspired by a couple of pads of paper I had on hand.  Here is the first.00183a

I pulled out The Paper Studio Glasses, Staches, & Ties paper pack and die cut the bowling pin paper with the largest rectangle from Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables.  Since I wanted a sentiment that would tie into bowling I printed “In the Game of Life, You’re a Ten”  in red ink on a side fold card base, 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Once it was printed I scored the card at 4 1/4″.  The “Happy Birthday” was stamped below using Hero Hues Black ink and Papertrey Ink Boutique Borders: Mother.  Before adhering the pattern paper panel with Creative Hands Peel & Stick Foam Sheets to the cardbase I cut the cardbase down 1/8″ on each side so the spacing would be even on either side of the panel, the overall size of the card was now 5 1/4 x 8 1/2″.

The star burst is Sihouette Design ID #13645 cut with my Cameo in Recollections red glitter cardstock.  The Bowling pins and ball (Design ID #40719) were also cut with the Cameo out of Gina K. Designs 80# White and 100# Red Velvet cardstock.  All the pieces were adhered together using Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The two outer pins were adhered to the star burst with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the center one with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape, along with the bowling ball.  I covered the bowling ball with Glossy Accents for a little interest and dimension.

I thought I was done at this point, but the patterned paper seemed pretty dull so I covered it with Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen, which you can see in the picture below, although it isn’t quite as shiny as shown.

Pretty Patterned Paper Cards

Every two months we have an evening meeting for the women in our church.  This month our theme is “Scatter Sunshine.”  One of the activities we will be doing is making handmade cards that can be given to someone we know who needs a pick-me-up.  Since there are a lot of the women who have never made a handmade card we wanted to be sure some of the cards would be less intimidating, so we have several samples made with patterned paper, stamping a sentiment, and adding a little embellishment.

I thought it would be fun to share some pretty cards that can be made with pattern papers we have in our personal stash of supplies.

00177b

For this card the flower and leaves were stamped in VersaMark ink from Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Floral Greetings and embossed with Ranger Gold Embossing Powder.  A finger sponge dauber was used to color the center of the flower with Distress Spun Sugar and the leaves with Distress Peeled Paint.  For the Martha Steward Butterfly Punch and the Simon Says Stamp Faith die a piece of scrap paper was covered with VersaMark Ink and Ranger Gold Embossing Powder before die cutting/punching.  This way they perfectly match the flower and leaves. The word “with” is from Winnie & Walter The Big, the Bold and Comfort.

00178a

This paper had the same loopy flowers as Simon Says Stamp Heart of Roses die.  I used some red cardstock from my stash to die cut the heart, along with Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Love.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables and then backed with some red card stock, which was cut 1/8″ larger.  This added a pop of color to the panel and tied in the heart and sentiment.  The “sending you” sentiment was stamped with Hero Hues Black from the same stamp set.  The patterned paper panel was adhered to the card base with some Fun Foam to add dimension.

00183

For this card red flowers were die cut from Paper Smooches Pocket Wise die set.  The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Look for the Miracles stamp set and was stamped with VersaMark Ink and embossed with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder.  The center of the flowers are Doodlebug Designs Enamel Sprinkles.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with Simon Says Stamp Bundles of Stitched Shapes and then attached to a card base with Fun Foam to add some dimension.

00184

This card only has some Doodlebug Designs Enamel Sprinkles for the center of the flowers and a sentiment stamped in Hero Hues Black ink from Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Floral Greetings.  The paper has a rough surface, so I used the MISTI so the sentiment could be stamped several times.  The patterned paper was run through the Sizzix Big Shot with Simon Says Stamp Bundles of Stitched Shapes and then attached to a card base with Fun Foam to add some dimension.

Hope you have fun using some of your pretty patterned paper lying around your craft room.

Garden Blooms

I originally made this card for a color challenge, but didn’t get it completed in time.  I like the bright and colorful flowers.

00161b

For this card I decided to do some no line watercoloring.  I stamped the image on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with Distress Ink Antique Linen.  I watercolored the flowers with Winsor & Newton Watercolors: Permanent Rose, Olive Green / Permanent Sap Green, Winsor Violet, Winsor Orange/Permanent Rose, wetting the area I wanted to color first with clear water before dropping in the color.

The cardbase is Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock, cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.  I cut a panel of pink Bo Bunny Passion Fruit Stripe Cardstock with the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes Die and adhered it to the card base with the Scotch Advanced Tape Glider.

Once the watercolor was dry I ran it through by Big Shot with the Winnie & Walter Audrey Essentials Die scalloped rectangle and applied some Michael Celebrate It pretty pink ribbon for a little added embellishment. For some added dimension I added 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back of the focal image and applied it to the card base and the card was done.

A Bouquet of Thanks

I love the big, bold flower images that have been coming out from stamp companies lately.  I recently purchased Mama Elephant Organic Blooms and wanted to create a clean and simple card that would showcase the image.  I really like how it turned out.

00160a

I stamped the image on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with Stazon Jet Black Ink and watercolored it with the following Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers: Olive Green 043, Pale Green 045, Deep Violet 084, Lilac 083, Violet 080, Dark Pink 027, Pink 025, Light Carmine 028, Pale Pink 028.

While the watercolor was drying I stamped Gina K. Designs Thank You Border on WorldWin Papers Vellum with Stazon Jet Black Ink and added Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder, heat setting it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.  I fussy cut around the lacy edge of the stamp and set it aside.

I die cut a scalloped circle with the Pretty Pink Posh Scalloped Circles frame die from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  The watercolor image was die cut with the Sizzix Large Circle die just smaller than the frame and adhered with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.  If you remove the backing from the foam tape you can easily bend it to fit around the circle.

The vellum sentiment was wrapped around the frame and adhered to the back with some Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The complete focal image was adhered with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the front of a side fold Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock card base, cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″ and the card was done.

Bright and Colorful Background Stamping

I’ve done this card before but wanted to see how it would blend with pinks and blues.  I love the combination.

00173I stamped Hero Arts Flower Wallpaper Background Stamp on Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper with VersaMark Ink.  I covered the stamped image with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder and heat set it with the Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

Using Tsukineko Sponge Daubers I applied the following Distress Inks: Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Picked Raspberrry, Spun Sugar, Mowed Lawn, and Shaded Lilac

Once the Distress ink was applied I generously misted it with water to let the colors blend and set it aside to dry.  Afterwards I ran it through the Big Shot with the rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundled of Stitched Shapes.

The stamped the sentiment from C. C. Designs Amy R. Elegant Greetings Stamp on a strip of WorldWin Papers Vellum in VersaMark Ink, prepping the vellum with an Embossing Buddy to ensure a crisp clean image.  I then heat embossed it with Ranger Silver Embossing Powder with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

I wrapped the vellum around the background image a little to the right so that I could add some rhinestone daisies that I’ve had in my stash forever, so I don’t know the manufacturer.  To keep it in place I simply used Scotch Tape on the back of the panel.

I cut a piece of white craft foam 1/4″ smaller than the panel and adhered it to the back with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  I then used the same glue to adhere the panel to a top folding Gina K. Designs 120# White Card Base cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″ and the card was done.

Sending Hugs & Prayers

This clean and simple card could be used for a sympathy card or just to give encouragement to someone who is having a hard time.

00164This is a simple card that doesn’t take very long to make.  I used my Inkadinkado Embossing Buddy to removing any oils from the Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor Paper  prior to stamping the rose from Clearly Besotted Happy Everything Stamp with VersaMark Ink.  Next I embossed the image with Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.  Embossing the image makes watercoloring quick and easy as it ensures the color stays within the raised lines.

For my palette I have a piece of white cardstock that I have laminated.  Using my mini Distress Ink pads I smooshed some Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive onto the palette.  I applied the color with my Kuretake Waterbrush.

Once the watercolor panel was completely dry I ran it through my Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  Because I was stamping on watercolor paper I stamped the sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Friendship Blooms Sentiment Stamp using my MISTI so I could stamp multiple time for a clear impression.

I applied the focal image with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to a Top Folding Gina K. Designs 120# White card base, cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″ and the card was done.

You’re In My Prayers

We all need sympathy cards at times and I like those that are simple and elegant.

The flowers in Altenew’s Beautiful Day Stamp are beautiful.  I stamped the image with VersaMark Ink on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and embossed it with Ranger’s Platinum Embossing Powder.  Be sure to prep the surface with an embossing buddy tool to ensure the powder only clings to the VersaMark ink.  To color the image I used Winsor & Newton Winsor Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Olive Green, keeping the colors light by diluting them with a lot of water.

Once the watercolor was completely dry I ran it through my Big Shot with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  I cut a piece of Paper Accents Mirror Gold Paper slightly larger, which added a lovely accent to the edges of the focal piece and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

I then stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Prayers with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed it with Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder.

All was adhered it to a cardbase made from Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape and the card was done.

Happy Father’s Day Sweetheart

I have the most incredible husband. Patient, kind, trustworthy, hardworking, with a sense of humor to add a little spice. My children and I are blessed every day by this amazing man. I hope he has a Father’s Day worthy of the husband and father that he is.

00163

This card was simple in design and was inspired by a card found on the Winnie & Walter web site using the word love from the Winnie & Walter the Big the Bold & the Happy stamp set. (https://www.winniewalter.com/products/the-big-the-bold-and-the-happy).

Using Simon Says Stamp Bundled of Stitched Shapes I cut a rectangle from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock.  Since my husband’s favorite color is blue I stamped the “happy” from Winnie & Walter the Big the Bold & the Happy multiple times in different colors of blue using Altnew Inks: Artic, Caribbean Sky, Prussian Blue, and Sapphire.  I then stamped “father’s day” from the same stamp set in Hero Hues Black ink.  I die cut silver glitter hearts with Simon Says Stamp Holiday Shapes Large and Small and scattered around the words using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

The cardbase was made from Gina K. Designs Navy 120# cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.  The panel was adhered to the front of the card with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to add dimension.

A second panel of white cardstock was die cut and stamped onceith the words “You are amazing” from Winnie & Walter The Big the Bold and You stamp set.  This panel was adhered to the inside of the card with my Scotch ATG glue gun and the card was done.

A Flurry of Hearts

This card was inspired by one I saw a few years ago by Dana Seymour. You can see her card at: http://forum.papertreyink.com/forum/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=76070.

There are times when I want to give my husband or children a card letting them know how much I love them.  I really like how this one turned out. It is clean and simple, yet elegant.

00162

The hearts are from Papertrey Ink Heart Prints and were cut with the matching dies. I stamped them on Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with VersaMark ink, applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder, and heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

The cardbase is also Gina K. Design 120# Ivory Cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and folded at 5 1/2″.  The hearts were scattered on the lefthand side of the card front.  Two were adhered directly to base with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the others were adhered with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to add dimension.

For the sentiment I used a scrap of cardstock and completely covered it with VersaMark ink and applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder twice to give it a smooth finish.  I then cut the word love from Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Love die three times and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue. Before adhering the die cut I stamped the phrase “SENDING YOU” from the same stamp set and then adhered the word below.
