A Flurry of Hearts

This card was inspired by one I saw a few years ago by Dana Seymour. You can see her card at: http://forum.papertreyink.com/forum/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=76070.

There are times when I want to give my husband or children a card letting them know how much I love them.  I really like how this one turned out. It is clean and simple, yet elegant.

00162

The hearts are from Papertrey Ink Heart Prints and were cut with the matching dies. I stamped them on Gina K. Designs 120# Ivory Cardstock with VersaMark ink, applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder, and heat set it with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.

The cardbase is also Gina K. Design 120# Ivory Cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and folded at 5 1/2″.  The hearts were scattered on the lefthand side of the card front.  Two were adhered directly to base with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and the others were adhered with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to add dimension.

For the sentiment I used a scrap of cardstock and completely covered it with VersaMark ink and applied Ranger Platinum Embossing Powder twice to give it a smooth finish.  I then cut the word love from Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Love die three times and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue. Before adhering the die cut I stamped the phrase “SENDING YOU” from the same stamp set and then adhered the word below.

CTD 395: Thankful

Today I decided to participate in the Color Throw Down Challenge #395 and I just couldn’t get things right.  I started with some Canson 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and stamped Simon Says Stamp Leaves Background in Hero Hues Green Hills and Soft Olive.  I then stamped the sentiment from Penny Black Special Wishes in Hero Hues Black.  It looked good to begin with and I was off to the rest of the card.

00159a

I die cut some Gina K. Designs 140# Ivory with Winnie & Walter’s Audrey Essentials scalloped panel.  I wanted to make it a frame and so I used the third largest Spellbinders Card Creators A die to remove the center of the panel.  I then die cut the leafy background with second largest Spellbinders Card Creator A die and adhered the scalloped frame using 3M 1/2″ foam tape for a little dimension.

I took some heavy weight cream vellum from my personal store and die cut My Favorite Things Fancy Flourish.  I wanted to add a little more interest, so I die cut it again with Grafix 30# Leaf Green Vellum and using a little Multi Medium Matte I adhered them both to the upper left corner of the frame.  Using the same cream vellum I die cut three sets of My Favorite Things Flower and Leaf Trio and glued them together with Multi Medium Matte, adding green Traveni Craft Adhesive Pearls to the center of the flowers and grouped them in the upper left corner, popping up the last flower with a round foam dot I’ve had in my stash forever.

It was at this point that I noticed the sentiment was not crisp and clean. The ink had bled on the watercolor paper, but I decided to complete the card anyway and glued the finished panel to a craft colored card base, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″ and the card was done.

I wasn’t happy with the way the sentiment looked so I decided to make another card with a similar design.  I took the center of the Gina K. Design 120# Cardstock leftover from cutting out the center of the previous frame. I cut two My Favorite Things Fancy Florish dies from the Grafix 30# Leaf Green Vellum and adhered them to the upper left corner as before.  This time I used My Favorite Things Prima Donna Petals to create a flower embellishment.  I adhered the layers together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and added a lime green rhinestone to the center.

I stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Big Scripty Greetings in Hero Hues Green Hills ink using my MISTI. I cut a scallop frame in green cardstock with the Winnie & Walter’s Audrey Essentials large scallop panel, running it through the Big Shot twice to make it a little smaller.  I glued the two together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

I made a top folding card from Simon Says Stamp Craft cardstock, cutting it to 4 1/2″ x 11″ and scoring it at 5 1/2″.  I added 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape to the back of the scalloped frame and placed it in the center of the cardbase and it was done.

00158

Neither of these cards are my favorites, but I have participated in my first card challenge and that was a success.

Happy Happy Birthday to You

The fourth card I made with background stamps was my favorite.  I used Hero Arts Flower Wallpaper stamp on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Stampin Stuff Clear Embossing Powder.

I applied Distress inks with Tsukineko Sponge Daubers. The following inks were used: Picket Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Spun Sugar, Spiced Marmalade, Mowed Lawn, Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass, and Mustard Seed. Using a water bottle a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.  The results were a bright and colorful background.

00153a

Once the background was dry a panel was cut with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle die.  The flowers received a coating of Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.  Using the same die as the front panel a strip of heavy weight white vellum was run through the Big Shot twice so that it measured 1 3/8″ x 5 1/2″. The vellum was prepped with an anti-static bag and the sentiment from C. C. Designs Amy R. Great Birthday Greetings was stamped with VersaMark ink, sprinkled with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder and heat set with my Marvy Embossing Heat Tool.  The vellum greeting was centered on the bottom of the front panel, wrapped around the edge,s and taped in place with Scotch Tape.

3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the panel, which was then adhered to a cardbase 4 1/4″ x 11″ made from Gina K. Designs 120# White Cardstock and scored at 5 1/2″ for a  top folding card.

On the inside of the card a sentiment from My Favorite Things Birthday Greetings was stamped with Hero Hues Black ink. A strip of the watercolor background was added to the bottom of the page and the card was done.

What a Wonderful Day

The third card I made with background stamps used Hero Arts Lotus stamp on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Stampin Stuff Clear Embossing Powder.  Distress inks used were Tattered Rose, Spun Sugar, and Picked Raspberry and blended with Ranger’s round blending tool.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

00152

This card was for my nephew Devin’s wedding to his fiancee Mandy. It turned out beautiful and elegant. Once the background was complete I used the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangle to cut the watercolor background to a panel 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and adhered it with Be Creative 5/8″ tape to a 4 1/4″ x 11″ cardbase, scored at 5 1/2″.

I wanted the background to take center stage so I cut a label from a leftover piece of Strathmore Watercolor paper with My Favorite Things Well-Worn Greetings die and stamped the sentiment from Penny Black’s Special Wishes with Hero Hues Black ink using my MISTI. 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the label for dimension.

For embellishment I cut My Favorite Things Fancy Flourish die from heavy weight white vellum and curved it along the left edge of the label. Flowers were cut using My Favorite Things Flower and Leaf Trio die from Doodlebug Sprinkles White Vellum. The flowers were layered on top of each other and adhered with Micro Glue Dots. A pearl from Michaels Rhinestone Stickers was added to the center of the flower with Micro Glue Dot. To add dimension to the flower it was adhered to the label with a 3/8″ Zots Medium Glue Dot.

For the inside of the card I printed a quote from Elizabeth Browning; “Love doesn’t make the word go round, Love is what makes the ride worthwhile” on Gina K. Design 80# White Cardstock and cut it with the same My Favorite Things Well-Worn Greetings die as was used on the front. Another flourish and flower were added as well. A strip of the background was added to the bottom of the inside card and to the bottom of the envelope and the card was done.

Make a Wish

The second card I made with background stamps used Hero Arts Tiny Flags. The background was stamped on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper and heat embossed with Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder.  This time I wanted a rainbow of colors.  In order to keep the ink to a smaller area I used Tsukineko Sponge Daubers with Ranger Distress inks.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

00155a

Colors used were:

  • Mustard Seed
  • Mowed Lawn
  • Salty Ocean
  • Wilted Violet
  • Seedless Preserves
  • Candied Apple
  • Spiced Marmalade

I cut two balloons from Lawn Fawn Party Balloons and colored them with Salty Ocean and Mowed lawn, the balloon strings were colored with Mustard Seed.  To add some sparkle I used Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts Make a Wish stamp set and was stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Recollections Snow Embossing Powder.

The cardbase was Gina K. Designs 120# White cardstock, cut to 4 1/4 x 11? and scored at 5 1/2″.  The Tiny Flags background was cut with Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and adhered directly to cardbase with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  I really like this rectangle because it leaves a small border around the panel.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was placed on the back of the green balloon and again on the blue ballon, with a double thickness added to the left side  to raise it above the first balloon.

For the inside of the card and the bottom of the envelope a small strip of watercolor Tiny Flags Background with Distress Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean was glued to the bottom with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted It’s Your Birthday to complete the card.

Tomorrow is a New Day

It seems that each time I watch a new instructional video I have to get the latest stamp or die. The hard part is to use them all.  I have been trying to challenge myself to use the stamps that I have purchased. This past week I used some of my background stamps with clear embossing powder and Distress inks to create some simple cards.

The first card I made used Hero Arts Floral Backgound.  I stamped with with VersaMark ink on Strathmore 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper, added Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my heat gun.

00154a

Next I took three Distress inks and Ranger Round Blending Tools and blended Pine Needles, Evergreen Bough, and Cracked Pistachio to reveal the beautiful leafy background.  Using a spray bottle of water a fine mist of water was added to the watercolor paper to help the colors blend.

I wanted the background to take the entire card front so once it was dry I cut it with the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Stackable Rectangles and adhered it to a 4 1/4″ x 11″ Gina K. Designs White Cardbase with 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape.

I wanted to let the background take center stage so I cut a label from Spellbinders Fancy Framed Tags Two and stamped the sentiment from Papertrey Ink A Year of Flowers Marigold.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the tags to add dimension. To add a little glam I added two Queen & Co. pearls.

For the inside of the card I created a small panel of the same background and adhered it to the bottom of the card.  I also stamped the image to the bottom of an envelope and the card was done.

Doctor Janae

Our youngest daughter is completing her three year residency in Pediatrics at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She is an amazing doctor.  Next year she will be the chief resident and the following year she will be off to a three-year fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care. We are very proud of her.  When I saw La-La Land Crafts’ Dr. Marci I knew it would make the perfect card.

00157b

The stamp was no longer available so I ordered the digital image and printed it with my small HP Laser printer on Gina K. Designs 80# White cardstock, since it wouldn’t bleed when I colored it with Copic markers. Colors used were:

  • Hair: E55, E53, E50, E55, YR21
  • Pigtail Ribbons: BG18, BG15, BG13
  • Magnifying Glass and Band: R22, R21, C3, C2, C1, C00
  • Skin: E01, E000, E0000 / Eyeshadow: E31
  • Lips: R22, R21
  • Cheeks: R20
  • Stethoscope: R22, R21, R20
  • Dress: BG18, BG15, BG13
  • Coat: C03, C01, C00
  • Bear: E33, E34, E35, E51 / Ears: E53 / Nose: C9, C7, C6
  • Sneakers: BG18, BG15, BG13, C04, C03, C01

Her favorite color is aqua/teal so I used those colors in the image, as well and the cardbase, which was from paper I had in my stash.  I die cut the image with the second size Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables and another panel of teal with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackable, but I wanted it to be a little smaller and so I ran it through my Big Shot again to remove about 1/8″.  This allowed me to cut the same size panel with American Crafts Silver Glitter Cardstock for a pretty border.  All panels were adhered using 5/8″ Be Creative tape. The multi-panel focal image was adhered to the cardbase using 3M 1/2″ Foam Tape for added dimension.

I die cut “Congrats” from Hero Arts Stamp and Cut in both teal and silver and adhered them together and to the front of the card with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  I stamped the phrase “you did it” from the same stamp set just below the die cut.

For the envelope I typically stamp the image in a lighter complimentary ink, but I didn’t have the stamp to do this, so I used Spellbinder’s On the Edge Heart Scallop die and ran it through with both teal and silver cardstock, filling the heart openings with silver and adhering to the bottom of the envelope with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and the card was done.

Graduation Cards II

We have good friends who have children graduating from high school this year, all four are boys.  They attend two separate schools, one with green and gold colors and other with purple and gold.  I decided to make these cards patterned after the one I made for my niece, but this time I colored them with the school colors for Richland and Hanford High Schools.

00206

00205

I used gold cardstock from my stash and embossed it using WeR Memory Keepers Stripe Sunburst.  I then cut a panel with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables.  To draw your eye to the center of the star burst, I used Spectrum Noir Sparkle Clear Glitter Brush on the rays.

I stamped La-La Land Crafts Graduation Luka four times on Gina K. Design 80# white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with the following Copic Markers.

  • Hair: E53, E55, E57, (E77 Darker) (E37 Red)
  • Pants: E31, E35 / B97, B99
  • Shoes: E55, E57, E59, E77 / C3, C4, C5, C7, C9

  • Robes: G05, G17, G29 / V04, V06, V09
  • Scroll: Distress Old Paper
  • Skin: E11, E00, E000

The images were fussy cut, 3M 1/2″ foam tape was adhered to the back and attached them to the embossed panel.  The card bases were made from green and purple cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″. The embossed panels where adhered the card bases by gluing craft foam, which had been cut slightly smaller than the panels, with Tombo Mono Multi Glue.

The sentiment was cut with Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Congrats from American Craft Gold Glitter cardstock and again from the same cardstock that was used for making the cardbase.  Both cutouts were glue slightly offset with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and adhered to the card.  Candy Shop and Triveni Craft enamel dots and Pretty Pink Posh Enchanted Garden rhinestones were scattered on the front and the cards were done.

Happy Birthday Julie

I made this card for my sister Julie.  Her favorite color is ice blue and I wanted it to be elegant, because she is an elegant lady.  What is more elegant with ice blue than white and silver.  This is what inspired the design.

00201b

I found some ice blue paper in my stock and cut a panel using the largest Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables.  Since I wanted to have a strip of silver glitter cardstock on the left I recut the panel making it slightly narrower.  Using Hero Arts Leafy Vine Background I prepped the panel with my embossing buddy before stamping with VersaMark ink.  I then applied Reflections Snow embossing powder and heat set it with my heat gun.  This created a lovely background.

I created a top folding card by cutting Gina K. Designs 120# white cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored to 5 1/2″. I cut a small strip of American Craft Silver Glitter cardstock and adhered it to card base on the left.

Using some heavy weight velum I prepped it with my embossing buddy and stamped a sentiment from C.C. Designs Amy R. Great Birthday Greetings with VersaMark ink and added Ranger Super Find Detail Silver Embossing Powder and heat set it with my heat gun.  I made sure the velum was wider than the ice blue panel so that I could wrap it around the edges and adhere it with scotch tape on the back. I then cut some white craft foam slightly smaller than the ice blue panel and adhered it with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then adhered the completed panel to the card front.

Butterflies were cut from silver glitter cardstock with Martha Stewart’s 3-1 Classic Butterfly Punch and Martha Stewart’s Classic Butterfly Punch. The center of the butterflies were adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  On the largest butterfly Zot Glue Dots were rolled and placed under the wings to add dimension.  Recollections clear mini gemstones were adhered to front of the card and it was done.

Happy Birthday Cupcake

I make a lot of birthday cards.  I have challenged myself to try to use all the stamps and products that I have purchased.  This card was inspired from some really cute paper by Doodlebug Designs, Sweet Things, which made a colorful cupcake using my Sizzix Balloon and Cupcake die.  I really like the way it turned out.

00199d

I used the coordinating paper to cut the cupcake and assembled it together using my Tombo Mono Multi Glue.  I wrapped the bottom of the cupcake with white organza ribbon and added a few white pearls.  I die cut a panel from Gina K. Designs 120# white cardstock with the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Stackable Rectangles.  3M 1/2″ Foam Tape was added to the back of the cupcake and adhered to the panel, leaving enough room for the sentiment.

With WPlus9’s Happy Trio I die cut the “happy” from matching patterned paper.  To add dimension I cut the word again two more times from white cardstock and adhered them together with Tombo Mono Multi Glue and then it was adhered to the card. The word birthday came from Winnie & Walter Big Bold & Party and was stamped in Hero Hues Black.

The top folding card was made from Gina K. Design 120# white cardstock, cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.  The panel was adhered to the card base with 3M 1/2″ foam tape.  On the inside of the card I cut down the cupcake dies to make it smaller and adhered it to the lower left corner.  The inside sentiment is from C. C. Designs Amy R. Sweet Sentiments, stamped with Hero Hues ink, and the card was done.
