Spring Card Camp 2 Day 12 Geometric Patterns Octagon Birthday Wishes

Laura Bassen was the guest designs for day 11 of the Spring Card Camp 2. She does such amazing work and I always love her card. She is famous for her rainbow colors used on her very graphic designs. Her technique was to take a graphic shape and cut it in graduating sizes and stack them together. She used squares and cut them in rainbow colors. It was an amazing card. I didn’t have any graphic shape dies that I cut in graduating sizes, so I went to my Silhouette Cameo, which worked great because I could cut them all at once.

I chose to do my cards in a monochromatic color scheme. For this first card I decided to use an octagon. I cut it in sizes 1/4″ smaller, starting with 1 1/4″ down to 1/2″. I also colored them in the software in varying shades of blue. The problem was my color ink cartridge was low and they came out very streaky, so I when over them with Copic Markers in different shades of blue.

Laura used foam tape between each of her layers. I had run out of my low loft foam take and using regular foam tape would make it too dimensional to mail, so I just glued each size together with liquid glue and then added foam tape behind the largest octagon and adhered it to my card base.

Laura showed how to line up your first row on your grid mat and add purple tape to hold it in place while positioning them in the exact center of the card. It is easy to then line up the subsequent rows.

Laura had a great thin sentiment die and shadow that wouldn’t cover up too much of the graphic shapes. I didn’t have anything like that, so I once again went to my Silhouette and created a sentiment and shadow. My last embellishment was to scatter little blue stars at different places on my shapes.

I really like the graphic look to the card.
