Spring Card Camp 2 Day 5 Stencil Shading

On day 5 of the Online Card Class Spring Card Camp 2 Lydia Fiedler showed how to add shading to a stencil using different colors.

She had a large beautiful flower stencil. I didn’t have anything like that. So I decided to make a stencil from a background die I had. I wanted to make it reusable, so I tired die cutting it from heavy weight acetate, but that didn’t work, so I used a lighter weight acetate and white it took many, many passes through my die cutting machine I was eventually able to removed the inner sections of the background.

This pretty butterfly background is from Spellbinders and isn’t as wide as an A2 card. I taped the stencil to a quarter sheet of 80# cardstock and ink blended it using Bubblegum Ink from Gina K. Designs. Net I took a small detail blended brush and added to different shades of purple to the center of the butterfly and the flowers. I smooshed some of the inks onto my work surface and used a little water and a brush to add splatters to the stenciled image.

I die cut down my stenciled background using a stitched rectangle die. For a sentiment I decided to use vellum. I stamped the sentiment with both Distress Oxide Wilted Violet heat embossed clear and with VersaMark Ink heat embossed gold. I decided on the gold (the purple was used on another card). I wrapped the vellum sentiment around the stenciled panel and adhered it in place with Scotch Tape. A rectangle of sticky back foam was cut 1/4″ smaller than the panel and adhered to the back, which holds the vellum sentiment securely in place.

The stenciled panel and sentiment were adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase with liquid glue. Gold Metallic Confetti from Pretty Pink Posh was scattered on the card front and the card was done.
