Have an Amazing Birthday Monica

My daughter-in-law Monica used to be a little goth. She still likes black and skulls, maybe it’s a little fall back to her Mexican American heritage and the Sugar Skulls that are part of Halloween. She also insists that she is going to be 29 every year until the end of time (smile). Don’t we all wish! When I saw this cute image from Polka Doodles I knew it would make the perfect birthday card for her.

This is a digital image, so I printed it using registration marks in my Silhouette Cameo so that I could have the machine cut out the image. Monica has burgundy highlights in her beautiful dark hair and so that is the way I colored the hair on this cut girl holding a skull in her hand. The dress of course is black, but the color and cuffs are burgundy. You can’t see them very well with the placement of the sentiment, but the girl is wearing boots, which is a type of shoe Monica loves and wears often.

I love the phrases that are part of Simon Says Stamp You Matter Background. I stamped it on some cardstock using a light gray ink and then die cut it with a scalloped rectangle and adhered it to a burgundy cardbase. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back of the image before adhering it to the cardbase. The word “amazing” is used several times in the background stamp and so I pulled out the Frantic Stamper Amazing die and cut it from silver mirror cardstock and white sticky back foam. It was adhered at the bottom of the card front with liquid glue. The secondary sentiment were stamped onto burgundy cardstock with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed silver. They were cut into thin strips with a Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Label die and adhered using foam tape. The final embellishment was to add Ranger Silver Stickles to the button on the cuffs and at her ears for earrings.

I hope it brings a smile to her face.

Spring Card Camp Day 12 Pop Pop Poppy You Are Amazing

Jennifer McGuire was the designer for day 12 of the Online Card Class Spring Card Camp. For creating cards this day she took about four or five baby wipes and adhered them to a piece of plastic. Then she added different colors of Distress Reinkers to create a do-it-yourself ink pad. This ink pad was used to stamp whatever images you desires, and at the end you used the leftover ink in the baby wipes to create colorful backgrounds on watercolor paper.

I rummaged through my stamps to find fairly solid images to use and selected several that I decided to give a try. For this first card I used Penny Black’s Pop Pop Poppy. This is a watercolor style stamp and I thought it might work well with this technique.

What I found out was it is very messy and I didn’t like that at all. For future cards I taped the baby wipes to a large stamp block and like that much better. I also found that you needed to stamp your image multiple times to get a good impression, but that is the nature of this type of stamp from Penny Black. I liked the variation in color that was achieve.

Once the stamping was dry I cut it down using a scalloped rectangle die. The sentiment was cut from both back cardstock and back sticky back foam to add dimension. Before adhering a secondary sentiment was stamped.

Since the sentiment was black I decided to adhere the focal image panel to a top folding black cardbase. It really allows the flowers to pop.

Woven Ribbons Birthday Wishes

I think this die from Frantic Stamper creates a background that looks like a beautiful quilt. I played around with this quite a bit. At first I didn’t like the hot pink and purple together until I finally changed the patterned paper sections. The flowers in that paper are so similar to Altenew’s Rose Flurries 3D dies that I decided to add a flower in the lower left corner.

I recently bought the Frantic Stamper Woven Ribbons Card Panel die and decided to use some plaid, blue, and green paper to create the panel. Once I was done I decided to add a blue classic car from Honey Bee’s Car Show. If you have any car stamps Honey Bee’s You’re a Classic has the perfect sentiments.
